Yes, I can understand the problems with only recieving a couple hundred points with high level characters. Expecially with PC gaming. We can't avoid the fact that things happen slower on a PC then they do in reality. Thus you end up with less exp at the end of the session. I do believe we need to modify certain things in order to compromise for that. If you think about it, PC gaming requires much more detailed role playing than real DND. Having more time to think things out contributes to that. For example: Battle description- Tabletop Dnd: Taryn attacks the Hill Giant with his twin long swords. I get +4 to my attack for fighting my species enemy.

- PC Dnd: Taryn gnashes his teeth as he spies the Hill Giant approaching. Out of nowhere his twin blades appear in his hands. He approaches his species enemy with a cold glare beaming from his eyes. Then with dazzling speed, he attacks with flashing steel.

(I know that's a little exaggerated, but I'm trying to make a point:)

That point is, perhaps a little more for RP'ing isn't a bad idea. Especially when there isn't any battles

I also can see Gord's point about kill bonus's. There is nothing more annoying than doing battle with a powerful monster and getting your hp's knocked down near to zero, or have something else horrible happen, like level draining for instance, and then have a mage or a thief throw a little dagger in there for 2 hp damage and taking the kill away leaving you with squat to show for it but a drained level and major wounds for the cleric to heal (and get exp for doing so btw). When I used to DM, I'd always give exp, based on how effective a person was in battle. I had a mathmatical procedure for the "kill" bonus, which I turned into a "battle effectiveness" bonus. If someone where to do something special (outsmarting or risky manuever) that had a major impact on the battle, I'd just give extra for that. But, I can understand how this would be much more difficult to do on the PC. It took me a lot of time on paper, and everything was already there in front of me :). I would definitely say, leave it up to the dm. But if we do use plain kill bonus's, we should try and recognize people who were outstanding in battle, but just didn't get the kills.
