- What a miracle for Dee? First she tries to have her Pageant in La. when she supposedly gets sick.Then she cancels & doesn't refund money. I have a question for you pageant moms. What is the secret to letting your husband do pageants without the fussing? My husband is constantly throwing him a fit about pageants.     - Pageants are a business and a lot of hard work. But you really should get your facts straight NOT ALL systems are tax free. LMM is a registered with the State Of MS. And I do file my taxes every year. Not any other MS State Pageant that I know of ( And I have checked into this) is paying taxes leagly. I must be doing something wrong I did not get my vacation. Does anyone REALLY know anything about Simply Southern. Has anyone ACTUALLY SEEN A form??? The Director told me when I asked for one that she hadn't printed any....now how does she know what she is planning on doing? And how do we know what she is planning on doing? She told me to enter online and paypal her the money!!! THIS SOUNDS LIKE A RIP OFF!!!! How am I supposed to know what I am entering...and this is another "NATIONAL" being held in MS. What are you thought?

        A good director will not change the date and location because the entries were lower than expected!! A good director also doesn't cut corners to make a bigger profit...such as not printing or mailing forms out!! I think the problem here is that pageant moms do not think rationally. Unfortunately pageants become an obsession and they become grossly blinded by the quest for the crown to even realize what they are doing to their own children. It is very sad. I am a "pageant mom" to some. I have children who "compete" in pageants. When we started I was able to look at what the older competitors were doing at some pageants and KNOW that it is just wrong. I knew right off that I could never subject my young children to adult makeup, teased hair, gaudy, glitzy adult style clothing....or pro-am. I know other moms who started the same way...but got caught up and became willing to compromise their child for the almighty crown. Their vision gets clouded and I truly believe they do not even know what they are doing anymore when it happens. YES I will agree that it is wrong for any man to find a child "sexual"...but ladies, that is not the REAL issue here. The fact is...there are men out there that are like this. More than we like to admit at times. The best word for them is "predator". As a parent it is our job to protect our children from such predators. Dressing children like miniature adults, in crop tops and tight pants and pull away skirts in full makeup and hair...is just making them a target for such predators. So why as a parent would you continue? Sure...there are a lot of moms out there who swear by and by that their children just LOVE pageants. And some do...but they would also enjoy simpler, non glitzy pageants that don't make a young child look several tims their age. There are also those children out there who don't really LOVE it all that much, but they continue to play the game because it makes their mother oh-so-happy. Ladies, as a fellow pageant mom who has kept her head....let me just say that you can justify it all you want....it doesn't make it right.

There are numerous reasons...but I think most are obvious just looking at this board. 1. COI. We don't compete based on who we know and what vendors we would use. I like going to a pageant where we know no one and can win anyway. Much more fun when I am not epected to kiss anyone else's behind. 2. Adult, out of date hairstyles. Has anyone actually looked at these kids? If you took them out of the context of pageant they would look like freaks. Their hair is a foot high and two feet wide and sprayed stiff. What is appealing about that? It is grossly out of date. Heck, the soap stars always had the biggest of hair, even when REAL big wasn't the thing and from what I see at the check out on the grocery isle (we don't watch television in my home) even they are with the times...wearing sleek blunt styles or short trendy ones. Big hair went out a long time ago. Stiff hair looks really un- natural. Why strive for this? 3. Makeup. I don't mind putting a touch of makeup on my child for stage lighting purposes, but come on ladies...your kids look 4 times their age and sometimes not even real. BTW, if your child's face looks plastic in a photogenic pic what is the point? 4. Photogenic pics. Is it even moral to make up young children to look like full grown made up women? I definitely do not think so. I've seen some photogenic pics at the state level that were actually really GOOD photogenic pics. (Not these guru pics) and the child looked like a child. These supposed national level pictures are just plain sad. There is someone selling a blue gingham hat and top for photoshoots on ebay and they posted the child's photogenic shot. It's horrific. While that child almost resembles a child (unlike many) the face looks plastic and the expression forced. Come on ladies...don't you think your children are beuatiful unless they are made up like that? Why else would you do it? 5. Competition. Every normal person who knows anything about children KNOWS that competition is not healthy for young children. When you get sucked into the glitz pageants you get sucked into the "have to win" syndrome. My daughter does natural and middle road pageants and does extremely well. I never even use the word win with her. I want her to have fun....anything else is just bonus.

There is plenty of COI in natural pageants. Parents that know the judges and directors. I have also seen the need to win mentality there also. Its always either COI judges or they are totally inexperienced with practiced, polished, packaged pageant kids. In this case one judge was pathetic with that kind of experience, another was not pathetic in experience, she just knew the kids. Some of those kids were her C&A queens.
