My child won Sunburst this year. -- .., 17:05:59 05/24/02 Fri
Here is my take on it. My child won Sunburst State this year. Its probably not hard to figure out who I am because there were only 5 pageant kids in that room of 70 contestants. We have been a round a LONG while in pageants. we have experienced Sunburst more than once. I understand the frustration with Sunburst especially about 4 years ago when it was last here. Talk about your pathetic directors! Well, anyway, we didnt get anything for our optional and side wins and NEVER did either! LOL! Anyway, it is a new day and age for Sunburst. We did it and are glad we did. Yes, we did risk ALL that money for an undisclosed amount of a savings bond, and yes, we found out that it WAS NOT worth going for overall. BUT...going for queen? 10 inch crowns, 6 ft trophies, custom banner, plaque and an undisclosed amount of a savings bond? YEP it was worth every penny cause it only cost $90.00. Shoot, a person will pay that for a saturday afternoon and win a 3ft trophy, tiara and a strip of ribbon with queen stamped on it. This director is a good one, she knows what a total package kid is and that is what she wants. Out of the 6 pageant kids that went, one won 0-4 Grand, 5-27 Grand, 7-10 group, 14-16 group and there was another that got Overall Talent. The last one was in a same group with another pageant kid, as it goes, only one of them could win, but they were both very deserving. I talked to the director, I told her that Sunburst would never draw the pageant kids if she does the bonds like she did this time. She told me that she would drop Alabama next year and she would give bonds comparable to other State pageants here. I told her that after this years bond issue, no one would even do a preliminary which would lead to getting state paperwork to let them know she would give comparable bonds. She told me she would put it on the preliminary forms what bonds she will give at State. I really really like this director. We who did the pageant and won cant fuss because we knew going into it that she could give us only $1 bond for winning simply because it was not stated on the paperwork how much you would win. I say sit back and see what she does with that prelim paperwork, call her and ask her about it or whatever. Next year, do beauty only if you dont want to risk all the money to see what happens, but i say give her a chance, I think Sunburst will get really good here. They want total packages, however, they want toned down h/m. (Just a little bit) and they want you to get real about what you would wear to a party (like in partywear) and get real about what you would wear to school (in schoolwear) I learned that this year! LOL! (No stereo type looks) They wanted what you would truly wear to school. Now next years judges might want a little more high fashion, you just never know in those events. They still did pick real photogenic pics and portfolios ect. Give it a try next year, I wish I could make promises on how it will go, I just think it will be ok though. (God my fingers are tired! lol!) I just though all of you deserved to know this info and maybe it will help all of you decide next year. Talking to the director is really the best thing. Her apparent knowledge of what circuit pageant kids are about is what convensed(sp?) me.

- I thought it was a wonderful pageant!! Every child got something (great prizes) and for the most part all the winners were fair!!   - I'm a MS Pageant Mom and trust me if LA kids are coming you better be prepared! They spend every dime they have on coaches, clothes and H/M. Competition -- been there, 19:04:24 06/03/02 Mon
Competition everywhere is different. But, competition is something that you run across. When it comes, learn from it and use it to prepare for another day. Everyone has competition out there no matter what state you are from. Winning doesn't teach you anything if you've never experienced losing. So what if other people come to MS to compete. They might have something we can draw upon to help prepare us for another day.

TO THE OWNER OF THIS BOARD I ASK YOU TURN ON THE ISP NUMBERS. I HAVE BEEN ACCUSED OF TRASHING BRITTANY HURST ON THIS BOARD AND YOU KNOW FOR A FACT BY THE ISP NUMBERS THAT IT IS NOT ME AS A BOARD OWNER I CAN TURN ON THE ISP'S AND SEE. ONCE YOU TURN ON THE ISP'S I WILL GLADLY REPOST FOR THE WORLD TO SEE. YOU KNOW YOU SHOULD NOT ACCUSE PEOPLE OF SOMETHING YOU DO NOT KNOW FOR A FACT. My child won one of the Grand Supreme's this past weekend. I was told by the Director today she would only get a $200.00 savings bond and it takes seven years to get the $200.00 full face value. We paid almost $400.00 in entry fees and there was 74 contestants. Not all did everything, but I would say 85% of them entered everything.There was also a $10.00 program book fee and a $10.00 door addmission charge. I don't feel my child or any of the winners are receiving what they should. Sunburst State always gave a $1000.00 bond for Grand Supreme, and a $500.00 bond for Beauty. THIS IS VERY WRONG............ What do you think?

I agree this is wrong....BUT, I just don't understand Why you would even spend this kind of money to do a pageant that does not guarantee the money and how much. This also happened in Tupelo not so long ago. It looks like you would really think about what your doing. I would never do a pageant that just said A BOND unless I did not care if I received any Cash or not. Most of the pageant kids do not go just for the title. Get a grip you stupid dip!
Most all State and National Pageants judge 0-3 on Personality and 4-up on modeling, but how many times have you seen girls win in the 0-3 who modeled. (MANY,MANY,MANY)
Even though they were being judged on personality the one who modeled the best won! So don't tell me the girls who model won't have a great chance to win. It takes more than just modeling to win and the real pageant kids have that advantage. I believe this is just a way for the Director to pull some newcomers. The real pageant kids always stand out because they are well put together kids.If all you can win a pageant on is modeling maybe you need to find a new hobby. Modeling is always impressive to the judges no matter what age the contestants are and what the paperwork states. The paperwork doesn't say they will be counted off if they model and what judge would say I couldn't give it to her because she modeled even though she had high scores in beauty and overall appearance. Once again get a grip !!!!!!!!!!

you people just need to get over it. my child was also in the 7 - 9 group and entered everything. i don't know of but one kid that won that didn't enter everything and that was in the baby group. she only entered beauty, but won one of the optionals. people do make mistakes. my child did not win at cm but the ones that should have won did. i think that the group turned out just as everyone thought it would. tp was a pretty girl, but as just has that look, she is gorgeous. i'm over it so you need to get over it too! jealousy isn't very becoming. you mothers just can't stand it when your little girls in ap clothes (which i'm sure you paid an arm and a leg for) don't win. but if you will take a closer look all her clothes look the same. that mess with the bellbottoms is so old. you either need to get a new seamstress or stop doing pageants. i hear there are several wonderful seamstresses in La. and in Ala. but there are also several in Ms. i prefer to stay close to home with mine even though we didn't win queen or supreme. you keep on putting out that big money and keep getting ripped off. just get over it whiney babies. i have and we keep on trying. we are in it for the fun and enjoyment we get just being together. at least i'm not teaching my child to becomeing a sniviling, crying, pouting baby when she doesn't win, we can win with style, something you know nothing about.

Everyone knows that CC, KC mom doesnt go anywhere where they dont know some judges. Well........ CC is friends with Z. Arringtons dad/family (BETTER KNOWN AS 2 OF THE JUDGES!)....and she used to sew for ZA. Wanna know what happened in 7-9? A.S. won Div. right??? Her family is best friends with the C's. Wanna know what happened in 10-12? A.W won Div right??? CC made her clothes for this pageant, they are friends. Wanna know what happened in 13-15? KC won Div right? Well KC is CC daughter and they are BUDDIES with the 2 judges which are Z. Arringtons dad and aunt FROM ALABAMA. That whole click won and I guarantee you it was due to the C's freindship with the A's.

Lets top it off... KC was banned from Cover Miss about 4 years ago because they threw such a fit about a judge possibly knowing a younger child in the pageant. (Back then they had Grand Supremes) KC ended up not competing. KC was not allowed to compete again per Eddie and Martha Tubbs. (Directors back then) and with back up from the National director, but this is something that Cindy Pugh didnt know and probably had been forgotten since so much time has passed!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll tell you something, we lost this weekend and not because my daughter is not pretty and not because she wasn't awesome! It is c/m state and that is what you have to expect from a cm state... I am not sure why everything has got so ugly but it is hard to digest if you go into it thinking that they really want packages... They are trying to pull for national's they know the package kids are all ready going... So they go ahead and get these people that think they won because c/m is a "Beauty" Pageant and there kids are soooo beautifull but in reality it is going to take more than a pretty face to pull you anything at natl's. I can almost bet you they will get a lot of the winners to natl's but I also can bet they will be in for a BIG suprise! Don't worry about state it is just a ticket to natl's so if you think your child is a package then let's all go and have fun but I will love to see how these "pretty" faces place..

I really like the concept of this board changing the name of it with each big MS pageant. What really bothers me though is the way these mothers I don't know where they are from going back and forth with each other. They are all over every board. Either their new or their stupid. Enough already. We all know who you are and are sick of it. Just put up or shut up. My goodness, you would think that the 4-6 group is running for Miss America or President. If you don't know by now, every pageant is different and every judge sees and likes different things. It will never be the same at any one pageant. You may win big this week and place last next. You women just need to read if anything and stop this back and forth mess. We are all sick of it.

Cover Miss is always ruff. There will be some smiles and some frowns after crowning. I understand in the 6 and under groups, there are alot of children in each group. We can't all win but if we didn't then a friend did. I tell my child to do her best, and if she does that, that's all I can ask of her. We never know from pageant to pageant what the judges will do. Even the best on stage can have an off day, after all they are only children. My daugther is in the 4-6 and will have to make sure she crosses all her T's and dots all her I's, and that may not even be enough. Best Wishes to all competeing..... You are all winners
