I think that depends on the band.

Manowar played in Sweden very recently and they usually
hand out backstagepasses to all the hot girls that are near the stage.

Here in Sweden it´s common that even top 5 bands have very few groupies like Hammerfall and In Flames for instance. If they want groupies after the show they have to hand out many backstagepasses.
