Well, I don't think Stand sucks--I think it's a great little pop tune. I do think REM's writing is purposefully obscure (like Sarah McLachlan's--drives me nuts because it sounds so pretentious, but oh well), but their music is solid.

Here is an online discography for Napolitano: http://www.aurealm.com/conblondisc.htm

Dream6 was Concrete Blonde before Michael Stipes (who is just everywhere, isn't he?) named them CB.

Well, it feels obvious, but their music stands the test of time.

Which of The Catherine Wheel's albums would you say is their best?

>I also love cool jazz, and Bach.

I love Peggy Lee and Beethoven. ;-) Moonlight Sonata is the finest piece of classical music ever written--understated and soulful.

Ok, best band is hard. Here are some recent likes of mine... Goo Goo Dolls, Treble Charger, Blink 182, Beautiful South, Odds (love Someone Who is Cool), Semisonic

Best songs:

Gin Blossoms "Hey Jealousy" (nothing deep there, just fun to sing)
Barenaked Ladies "Lovers in a Dangerous Time" (I have to give Bruce Cockburn the credit for a great song, but I prefer the Ladies' rendition)
Thompson Twins "Hold Me Now"
They Might Be Giants "Birdhouse in Your Soul"
XTC "Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead"
Billy Bragg--EVERYTHING, but I'll pick "Everywhere"
Tom Petty "Free Fallin"
The Police "Don't Stand So Close"
Rolling Stones "Ruby Tuesday" (another great singing song)
54-40 (my local boys)--almost anything there again... "One Day in Your Life"
Kirsty MacColl (RIP) "They Don't Know"
Pogues and KM "Fairytale of New York City" (I think that's it)
UB40--"Red Red Wine" (way up at the top of the list)
Boomtown Rats "I Don't Like Mondays"
Janis Joplin "Piece of My Heart" maybe. I have to add her just because I could listen to her voice forever
Pixies "Wave of Mutilation"
Pat Benatar "We Belong"
Ramones "I Want to Be Sedated"
Crash Test Dummies "Supermans Song"
Trisha Yearwood "She's in Love with the Boy"
Chagall Guevera "Tale o' the Twister"
Cowboy Junkies "Misguided Angel"

Ok I could go on forever...
