Because the most impoverished schools will never get the funding they NEED to provide an education to those who can least afford it.

I have to admit; I'm going thru some educational issues with my oldest, our knee jerk reaction was to pull her out of the public school, THAN I started looking around at what is available in the private sector...it doesn't compare as far as special services, for the most part, we have religious schools, and we have "elite" schools and public schools. Our public school is sooo large and diverse that they have much more than any private school could ever hope to provide. So what to do with a "mediocre" public school with lots of services or do we go to the private sector who might provide more one on one? This year we chose to maintain her in the public school, with a helluva LOT of advocating on my part so she would get the services that she deserves. I'm still not satisfied, but I've resigned myself to the fact that only kids who have parents who will ACTIVELY advocate for them will get what they need. So whether its a voucher system or the status quo, I really don't think it will improve the overall scheme of school. School is what YOU make it, sure dump more money into it...but when it comes down to it, IMO of course :), whats' important is whether or not the family values education, if they do, the kid will do well.
