I don't see the big hairy deal about the government's desire to give parents vouchers in the US--I think it's a step toward privatising education.

Why shouldn't free market principles apply to education just as to any other service we consume? We allow privatisation when it comes to higher education, and this seems to work very well (with true excellence being achieved in the finest institutions). Why shouldn't we do this in primary and secondary education, too?
