Subject: Finale spoilers inside...my thoughts and predictions...
In reply to: C 's message, "Are You a Muggle? ;)" on 18:03:29 07/14/05 Thu

I just posted this at a thread at SD1 (Alias board) and thought I would copy it here....

In between bouts of baking, laundry, and lawn mowing, I just finished. I have to say that the emotion of the book--all the books really--is what keeps me reading.

I hadn't heard any spoilers for the books, but just as I knew there had to be a prophecy in the last one, I knew some time ago the Dumbledore had to die. Harry had to come to the point before he faces Voldemort to doing it on his own. And he can't really do that unless Dumbledore is dead and Harry is forced to renew within himself his purpose.

I thought the romance of this book was perfect---there a little bit, and meaningful to a 16 year olds who are living constantly in 'mortal peril,' but not overdone. I was glad to figure out what was up with Tonks. I was worried it was something horrible, but there were no clues in behavior, other than her being a bit down. It wouldn't have fit for it to come out before the scene in the hospital wing--perfectly done.

I agree with everyone who says that RAB is Regulus Black. I'm also wondering if the room where Harry put his Potions Book might have something. I know they said that Voldemort never got what he wanted when he returned to Hogwarts, but that room of junk in the Room of Requirement kind of struck me.

I wasn't certain who the HBP was, although sometime in the reading I had a fleeting thought that it might be Snape. With the way Horace was going on about Lily though, and Hermione's continued insistance that it could be a woman, I honestly wondered if it was Harry's mother---up until the point when Harry did the blood curse thing in the bathroom (yeah, don't have it in front of me to look up spelling!)

I think Hogwarts will open next year, because I can't see the series of 7 taking such a detour from the setting of the past 6 books. I think Harry is going to need Hogwarts. That's one reason I think one of the Horcruxes might be at Hogwarts. Either the place where Harry survived the curse or the school will be the final showdown.

I also wonder if Harry will 'inherit' or use some of Dumbledore's useful stuff---I'm thinking Fawkes and the Pensive could be key items that will pop up next book.

On the subject of Snape.....I still can't decide if he is good or bad. I think both. I agree with CQ that Dumbledore's knew Snape would kill him. I did have a fleeting thought that the curse would strike the locket and have it be destroyed (even if it was---lot of good that would do--destroying a fake locket). I also agree that Harry is wrong about why Snape trusts him. That's one reason I think Harry might get his hands on the pensive---to find out some of those things. I'm thinking he'll be working on the wrong side of the tracks next book, but will probably redeem himself in the end.

Predictions......Harry will return to Hogwarts (although maybe not spend the whole year there). He won't go it alone. He'll get more skilled as a wizard with every Horcrux thing he finds and destroys. Snape will be an enemy but find redemption. Hagrid will be a head of house. And someone will die to save Harry's life (someone in his peer group).

[> Sigh - with grad school I still haven't found time to read the first ones... plus the copies at our library are so nasty worn out that they gross me out to read.... so I can't read the new one, because I haven't read the rest!!! I think I'm going to have to give in and buy the paperbacks at walmart for 4.47 and read them soon though... or maybe I'll wait til I move out next january to a new town in the middle of winter, and don't have school anymore and let myself read them all then! -- Aria, 23:45:53 07/16/05 Sat [1]

[> [> Aria--you definitely need to invest the five bucks for the paperback, especially if the library ones are a mess. Once you start, it's hard to stop until you're out of material. Or see if your library has audio copies---although I always find them harder to follow unless I've actually read the book first. -- C, 20:03:01 07/17/05 Sun [1]
