Episode X A New Scope It wasn't Hitchens that made me realize this but he'll forever be the final voice that I connect this epiphany to--he's also probably the best as the rest of the 'hacks' who've trumpeted the exact same sentiment for my entire adult life include Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity. Hitchens eloquent hostility simply struck the right key. AT ANY RATE!!!!, this is a very, very simple dilemma yet one that will continue to perpetuate until those of us feeling slighted gather the capabilities to resolve it (Worse yet, it will continue to exacerbate the high-voltage, Predominant wedge issue of Race). Having said all that, I first want to throw my two cents in (what in the fuck does that even mean? Did people used to have to pay to harangue back in the day? If that's the case, I'd be even poorer back then than I am today). I was moved by Obama's speech. Sincerely and earnestly moved for the first time by this fledgling upstart (or in some circles: "uppity negro"). I, like many American Catholics--even those often painted as close-minded and ignorant--have the necessary empathy to identify with a group making its move in our pluralistic democracy. Like JFK before him, Obama invoked the pride of his own race while acknowledging the travails of others...sometimes, even, at that said group's expense. It was mind-boggling to hear him address that point and, being drunk, I started crying throughout the speech. The contention I, and those like me, feel regarding this situation is, at its most base level, childish. The little boy glaring jealously at the freely-given advantages inherent to being the teacher's pet such as getting away with similar infractions that the indignant boy is nailed for. Having been on both ends of that spectrum (and it's amplified when it comes to the girls taking their love away and projecting onto the newly-favored fella) I feel that this metaphor--while completely Adderall-inspired--may be going somewhere. Too bad self-awareness has brought about the usual, 'sudden lack-of-interest.' Since you brought up Hitchens' ambit it's only fair that we now explore yours: the liberal intellectual. Though the Liberal will forever shy away from admitting it, he (/she) would go too far greater lengths in serving the professed aim of those good souls on the right whose goal it is to bring about Honest Language in Politics. Why can't the well-educated, economically-comfortable, effete liberal simply admit that we feel that, due to the fact that the the African-American has gotten a shitty ride in America, we are bending our candor and integrity. The ends justifies the means...if you will and as it were and so on and so forth. I tell you what, it would ease tension instantaneously across this country. But that brings about the issue of then having to deal with the doleful pride of those you want to believe have, in fact, pulled themselves up by their bootstraps (again, no idea what that means). The irony of this particular crusade is that Barack Obama is, IN FACT, more than capable of running this country...into the ground. That was a joke. In closing, my point is not only valid but it's iron-clad and you all know it. The Diane Keaton liberals from "The Family Stone", naive Jon Stewart disciples and old communists that J. Edgar Hoover never captured are rallying behind Barack because they are decent folk who want to see an oppressed community finally have their shot. That's fine with me. My community had its shot and then he was shot. I digress. So long as the media continues to not only promote Obama and give him free passes, but also contrive and manipulate news stories IMMEDIATELY that make Hillary look bad in order to take Barack off the news as well as give him the double-standard of not having to account for his past associations...white people will continue to scream foul. Let's just admit that we're all equally capable if given a level playing field and appoint Obama President but not tell the blacks so we can still have the election and then they'll feel like they finally won one and then we can all go back to ignoring each other as the country slowly reverts back to its isolated own-groupism...only this time: we're all cool with each other and every actually has equal rights. BUT DON'T try and assuage the intellectual capabilities of the rank-and-file white NOR stick charges of bigotry into his face WHILE he's getting it just as bad as everybody else with now only his head-start...which has been given to the new boy in class. A blond Italian kid. I shit you not. He grew up to look like Popeye and was nothing once we got to High School...but he took away my precious attention.
