Blue isn't masked by brindle. You can have a blue brindle. I have a blue brindle myself that was produced from a breeding of two brindles that were carriers of the dilute gene. Gordo was also a blue brindle produced from two brindle carriers.

Blue however is hiden in a heterozygous state or in a true red, as blue dilutes the black color to a blue. It can also dilute variants of black, such as brown. I myself have seen many blue great danes, weimeriners, AmStaffs/pit bulls, and other dogs already mentioned, but I have never seen a true Bull Mastiff that was blue. Do you have any photos of one. I did a quick search for it and came up with a "blue fawn" female pup that was not blue at all. Interesting though, and it would be news to me. If I saw one, I myself would be suspect of Neapolitan influence.

Here is an interesting link on it.
