Gwenneveire sat back on her haunches, studying the strange creature with a veiled gaze. It certainly didn't seem hostile--as Rio had said, it was young, and quite delicate in stature. Gwenneth had never seen an elf, but she had passed quite close to them before in her wanderings; this creature had a similar smell, but her wings gave the scent an overtone of the airways characteristic of birds.
::We'll just see what happens,:: she spoke to Monet and Rio. Sensing the distant approach of Gabriel, the Jellicles, and the child, she smiled to herself, and closely watched her boy to see his reaction to the oddity.

Angie glanced sidelong at Alexis. ::I...I don't know that it wants anything,:: she replied. ::The way it's acting...I think it's about our age, however they judge age. But I don't think it'll hurt us. I've met lotsa elves, over across the mountains, but never a winged one. 'Course, they can't be that different,:: she concluded with confidence (and a touch of arrogance that accompanied most of her descriptions of the far side of the Hedrons).
Jeff paused, his mouth open to speak to his companions. They were both standing quite still, looking steadily at the creature, but for a split second he could swear that he saw something in the air between them--a thread, maybe, but glimmering diamond-bright. The instant he tried to focus on it, it disappeared, and he could not catch sight of it again. He furrowed his brow, concerned and confused. Had he hit his head the night before, when Alexis and Angie had taken him away from the demons?
"Hey..." Angie reached out to poke him in the arm. "Didja see a ghost?"
Jeff shook his head. "Uh...no. No, I..." He blinked a few times and turned back to the creature, which stirred its wings, looking at him curiously. He had to admit, it seemed awfully human--excepting those horrendous blue-black wings, of course. She was short and lightly built, with slightly pointed features that had a kind of wild, pinched prettiness, and her dark hair was all awhirl--she had probably flown not too long ago. She blinked back at him with large, luminous eyes, still smiling.
He realized suddenly that Alexis and Angie were waiting for him to make a decision. Startled, he collected his thoughts and decided that it probably wouldn't hurt anything to tell the creature their names--after all, it had told them its.
Hers, he reminded himself. It was a female.
"I'm Jeff," he said tentatively, and gestured to the g.irls in turn. "This is Alexis, and this is Angie. You did scare us, but if you don't mean to harm us then we're no threat to you, either."
---
Crouching in the shadows, Gwenneth smiled again.
