In reply to: Dragon/Dante/Khanada 's message, "Re: the dragon's lair" on 18:27:01 08/23/03 Sat

For a moment, Wesimbi froze, silhouetted against the night sky, staring down at the wolf cub and the child. His eyes were icy, and the force of his gaze pinned the children where they sat.

"N-no," Kalea gasped, falling to her knees a small space behind them. The sheer power of the Guardian's presence, added to her fear of him, held her in place and she trembled uncontrollably, hanging her head.

"No, sir...please...oh, please don't hurt them," she whispered, unable to summon any strength for her voice.

All at once, an image of little Shakira floated through Wesimbi's mind---he remembered the day he had met her, how fragile and innocent she had been, how completely at his mercy...and how much she meant to him now.

The Eternal Flame of the West slowly knelt before Dante and Khanada, and though he did not smile (he had not smiled in many long years), his voice was not unkind.

"I will not hurt her, little warrior," he said quietly, and his physical voice was no less powerful or imposing than that of his mind...but it somehow made him seem more real, to hear him speak in the open night air.

"Your friend...the liren Silent Paw, correct?"

"Yes," Kalea replied, still unable to raise her head. "Gwenneveire."

Wesimbi nodded, shifting his enormous wings. "A suitable name. Peace, young one, she is safe. As are you." He rose to his feet once more, looking at the dragon. "There are more suitable ways of holding a conversation," he said coolly, "than by a kidnapping. Do not test me, Salimende---the West is under my hand."

::Nashy,:: Kalea called quietly. ::I'm speaking to him! I really am! He's right here, and talking to us, and he's...he's nice! Oh, Nashy...oh...what is a Silent Paw?::
