In reply to: Kira and Khanada 's message, "Re: morning" on 11:37:27 03/15/06 Wed

Wesimbi bit his lip, an unconsciously human gesture, as he concentrated fiercely on the simple act of walking. He was constantly glancing at Nashota, mystified and a little envious at the lithe grace that she had retained in her new form, and tried not to hold her hand too tightly as he stumbled. It was enormously frustrating to be suddenly so weak and vulnerable.

Suddenly a little snake darted from under his feet and Wes tripped, releasing Nashota's hand just in time not to drag her along as he fell headlong into the grass. Laughing, the woman bent over him.

"This is ridiculous!" he muttered, rolling onto his back.

Then they both jumped, startled, as a high but strong voice rang out over the grass - "Oy! Leave him alone!"

- - -

Sema grinned and was after Kira in a flash, and they chased each other through the air above the blue hills, always careful not to make Khanada sick with the twists and turns.

"He should be just there!" Sema cried after awhile, pointing over the next hill. "Come, let's surprise him."

Kira set Khanada down and the two elves landed, and the three of them crept to the top of the little knoll and peered through the grass that was as tall as they, careful to keep their wings low and out of sight. They heard someone fall as they peeked through, and saw a figure in the grass - whose mind was undoubtedly that of the Guardian - and a second figure towering menacingly over him. For some reason, the Guardian was not defending himself.

"No," Kira whispered, looking alarmed, and Sema leapt into the air.

"Oy!" he shouted. "Leave him alone!" And he dove foward on widespread wings. The second figure - a human woman - cried out and ducked, arms over her head, and Sema flew close over the grass where the Guardian was laying to get a good look....

...and saw not the Guardian but a very human man with coppery skin, staring up in surprise. Sema gasped and stopped in midair, hovering, looking fixedly at the man - for the man's eyes were solid sky-blue without white or pupil. The eyes of a dragon.

Sema darted away, very confused, and seized Kira's arm as she flew toward them. "Stop," he said, "there's something very wrong here. That man, he - his eyes - I don't understand."

Wesimbi sat up, his hair wild and stuck with bits of grass, and his human face split into a wide grin. "Kira!" he cried, and struggled to his feet with Nashota's help. "Kira, it's me, Wes - it really is, I promise!"
