Was reading the GellyB--Minder exchange on R1D2, concerning ownership of His Church. I offer these verses:

Col 1:15-20
15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:
16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.
19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;
20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.

The message here is positional. Y'shua was the first-born, NOT the first-created. First-born signifies priority in time. He us NOT a creature, but Creator. Also, this speaks of being recognized as the Mechiach.(Psalm 89:27). So, these 3 positions tell the story:

1. IN Him, sovereign source;
2. BY Him, divine agent;
3. UNTO Him, forHis use and for His glory.

He alone directs, controls, guides, and governs the church. The church is His body; He is its source and its life. He has first place all to Himself, for He IS in a class by Himself. He is eminent above all others. IT is not enough for Y'shua to be present, nor prominent; He must be pre-eminent. Why(Mags)? Because it pleases Abba G_d.
