Yes, I bookmarked it to delve into later. Too bad so many are completely ignorant of history and also of the Bible yet claim those who are knowledgeable are the braindead ones. If they were, they wouldn't be so flippant.

You own words convict you, because YOU are ignorant of Church history and also ignorant of the Bible, the ENTIRE Bible, and are not knowledgeable at all.

You are a two-faced, dead religionist of the church of the Laodiceans.

Prov 29:19-20
19 A servant will not be corrected by words: for though he understand he will not answer.
20 Seest thou a man that is hasty in his words? there is more hope of a fool than of him.
(KJV)

The LXX reads "a stubborn servant." Verbal correction accomplishes little with men who deliberately refuse to obey commands. It is only the fear of punishment that alters the resolve of those unprincipled and self-willed persons.

A fool may be better taught habits of speech through careful instruction. Notice verse 15 concerning the rod and reproof concerning wisdom. Your incorporation has nor gives vision as to godly instruction. It can only glorify the godz you serve, the goobermint. Thus, they perish for they lack knowledge.

An interesting link from the folks at the Power Hour program.

http://www.thepowerhour.com/postings-three/exit_hole.htm

Note not only the size of the hole but the markings to the left, in yellow. Dr. Cathy Burns, in her book Masonic and Occultic Symbols," tells this symbol is a sign satanists use for anarchy. It also indicates "the suspension of all laws."

The symbol is used here inverted. I can only imagine it has a greater evil meaning such as an inverted pentagram.

For those Neo-Conservative fools such as Rush Limberger and Bill O'Reilly, believing there are too many people out there who would resist the destruction of the Constitution of the United states of America, guess again.

The greatest danger to AmeriKa, and a boon to the NWO/One World church crowd is a Neo-Conservative president such as GWB, coming as a sheep in wolves clothing. After the gains and the awakening of the militant Church in the Klintstone era, the Church is being lulled back to sleep by the appearance of "good" goobermint.

G_d's judgment is headed toward AmeriKa like a speeding freight train. The whistle is blowing, yet the church of today is so soundly asleep and ignoring the warning blasts.

It will be interesting to observe the 1 year anniversary of 9.11 and the "patriotism" message the goobermint and the RIM(Reality Impaired Media) wants to put out to the sleeping public.

Dolly -- tamarisk, 13:17:40 08/20/02 Tue

My last post of the day. Work happens! Am glad school has started and I no longer must awake at 4:30am. Yea!

Heard an interesting story over the weekend I don't thing anyone touched upon. It was a news story having to do with the RCC church and their stance on converting Jews to Catholicism. I laughed because they still would not be Born Again, the Bible Way. They would only exchange one Neo-pagan religion for another. However, I have much more respect and love for the Jewish people. They have endured much at the hands of the Romish inquisitors.

The High Holy Days of Leviticus 23 are coming soon. The fall feasts are an interesting time in the synagogue. I plan on taking a basket, once again, to the little Reformed congregation with challah, apples and honey, for their Rosh haShanah feast. I have fond memories of my time in the synagogue.

I know Mechiach is present in each and every feast celebration in the synagogue. The difference is in knowing that blessed truth.

As it was in the Garden when Satan was ever so slightly twisting the truth as he was playing word games with Eve; Doris’ perpetual defense of minder, the false religionist and pantheist, new age-universalist, I am reminded of the coy games of Satan in the desert:

Matthew 4 :: New King James Version (NKJV)

Satan Tempts Jesus

The Temptation of Jesus

(1) 1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry. 3Now when the tempter came to Him, he said,

"If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread."

4But He answered and said, "It is written, "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God."'

5Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, 6and said to Him,

"If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written:

"He shall give His angels charge over you,'
and,
"In their hands they shall bear you up,
Lest you dash your foot against a stone."'

7Jesus said to him,

"It is written again, "You shall not tempt the LORD your God."'

8Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9And he said to Him,

"All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me."

10Then Jesus said to him,

"Away with you, Satan! For it is written, "You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve."'

11Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him. “

Hosea 4

5 You stumble day and night,
and the prophets stumble with you.
So I will destroy your mother-
6 my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge.

"Because you have rejected knowledge,
I also reject you as my priests;
because you have ignored the law of your God,
I also will ignore your children.

7 The more the priests increased,
the more they sinned against me;
they exchanged [1] their [2] Glory for something disgraceful.

~~~~~Doris is perishing for her lack of knowledge. ACNR/Dolly/Bethany -- tamarisk, 12:44:28 08/19/02 Mon
WRT---"Gr. Christos, 'Anointed.' - Used in N.T. 577 times. Like the name "Jesus" it has no reference to deity, but to the humanity of the Son of God, who became the Christ or the "Anointed One" 30 years after He was born of Mary. God "made" Him both Lord and Christ. The Heb. Is 'Messiah'." (Dake's Annotated Reference Bible, Finis Jennings Dake, published by Dake Bible Sales, Inc, Lawrenceville, Georgia, New Testament, p.1.)
That daffynition denies everything before Y'shua was 30 years old. It denies the virgin birth. It also denies biblical truth in Luke 1, John 1, and other places.
Dakes, Oneness Pentecostals and other strange rangers of bible doctrine deny the need for a virgin birth. A vigin birth was required for several reasons:
1. To fulfill Old Testament prophesy(Gen 3:15; Isaiah 7:14; Jeremiah 31:22)
2. To avoid the Old Testament curse on the seed of Jeconian(Jeremiah 22:24-30), yet still be able to claim the Throne of David in the kingly line
3. To be in accord with theological implications of the inspiration of the Scriptures and Mechiach's sinless humanity. Through the miraculous virgin conception, Mechiach avoided receiving a sinful nature
4. To avoid receiving a human father. Mechiach already had a Father, Abba G_d, and it would be unsuitable to have a second one
5. To avoid creating a new person, as is done in all normal conceptions.(Not sure if Dorito, Rev Jackals, etc., were "normal" conceptions, thus creating a "new person." They must be Born Again) Mary's conception of Mechiach was to be the incarnation of an ALREADY EXISTING PERSON.(Hint to Mags--The second person of the Triune G_d already existed.(John 1:1) This totally legimitizes Trinity teaching in the Old Testament and Jewish beliefs. I recited the Shema from Deurtronomy 6:4 at each and every sabbath service in the synogogue. It is the prayer on my Tallit(prayer shawl). The Hebrew word for one is 'echad, meaning "compound unity." The phrase ONE LORD means G_d has one name; it is also a testimony against polytheism. Both the unity and trinity are taught in the Old Testament in:
Gen 1:26-27
26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
Ps 2:7
7 I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.
Isa 48:16-17
16 Come ye near unto me, hear ye this; I have not spoken in secret from the beginning; from the time that it was, there am I: and now the Lord GOD, and his Spirit, hath sent me.
17 Thus saith the LORD, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the LORD thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go.(KJV)
In a way, one has to suspend the mind and engage the soul in order to allow the Spirit to work within. No one ever gained spiritual enlightenment by thinking about it. One can form an opinion through the use of the intellect, but not be enlightened by God, the way I see it.
The way you see it is exactly the way Satan wants you to see it.
The first commandment is, Love your God with all your heart, MIND, soul and strength
Romans 12:2 commands:
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your MIND, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
You have been duped by the same old trick that Satan used on Eve in the Garden, who promised Eve, "enlightenment"(ie-you shall become like a god).
They actually think you can't believe and be intelligent. They are wrong.
The problem doritodip has is that she neither believes, nor is intelligent.
doritodip has a shallow concept of some sort of indescript god or creative force, but does not intimately know God through His Son Jesus Christ, by relationship, and chooses to remain ignorant of her own stiffnecked, prideful, free will.
Dolly -- tamarisk, 11:34:53 08/15/02 Thu
You referenced either a Dorito or "Car Jack" post containing "A heresy hunter's view of Psalm 23."
It never ceases to amaze me how they can pick scripture which should directly convict and prick THEM in the heart by it's Holy Truth. It has been said, this little Davidic Psalm contains a large book of its own.
It is a beautiful thing to behold how a Mighty G_d can condescend to such a lowly, human understanding to call Himself a shepherd. However the most important word in verse one is "my." What right does the psalmist, or any man, have to call the Lord Yehovah "my shepherd?" The answer, of course, is found in the previous Psalm.
It is interesting that Franklin D. Roosevelt spoke of four freedoms in a speech while he was president:
1. Freedom from want
2. Freedom from fear
3. Freedom of speech
4. Freedom of religion
Those who abide in the presence of the Shepherd never lack for temporal things.
There are two thoughts about the green pastures in verse 2. Spurgeon understood green pastures to be the place of most substantial feeding of the sheep. Others see a reference to the Lord's rest in the phrase, "he maketh me to lie down in green pastures." There was and is a lack of green pastures in Palestine, so the sheep must be led from pasture to pasture. When once a pasture is found, it is there they rest before moving on to the next pasture. Here we see the perfect balance between rest and activity.
Still waters assumes the same role as green pastures. Still waters run deep. Any deep experience with the Shepherd can only be accomplished by time spent with the Shepherd, as the words "lie down" indicate.
Not only is physical sustenance provided by the Good Shepherd, but spiritual restoration is provided as well. When the soul becomes sorrowful, He revives it. When our spirit becomes weak, He reinvigorates it. We have freedom from depletion, for every time we would stray, as a sheep would, He brings us back.
The Kumbaya/R1/Rev Jackal's crowd would do well to understand the above. They are steeped deep in Charismatic confusion, Apostolic Pentecostal lies straight from the One World-NWO church from Hell. While the psalmist, in verse 3, references "paths of righteousness," they consistantly go down rabbit trails to oblivion, instead of paths of pleasantness and peace.(Proverbs 3:17) This is why they cannot sustain and maintain the letter and intent of Susan's rules at the top of the page. It's not in there heart. It's not there because they lack discernment and the leading of His Holy Spirit.
The Good Shepherd leading is out of pure grace, to bring honor to the Great Shepherd that we keep the commandments of the Word and walk in the narrow way of righteousness. Dorito still wants to walk down Broadway. I have seen many a Dorito steet in cities across AmeriKa named Broadway. However, in all my travels, I have never see one named "Narrow Path."
There is a very intimate statement in verse 4. Probaby too much so for the Kumbaya Crowd. It is the reason why we "fear no evil." David, who referred to G_d as "he" elsewhere, now uses the more intimate "thou." This makes "The Lord is my shepherd" now to be seen in his direct address to the G_d of heaven. When we come to know Abba G_d personally through His Son Y'shua, we may then understand why we don't fear.
The rod and staff of the shepherd are tools of his office. By them, he guides sheep. They indicate sovereignty over his sheep. While passing thorough the darkness of wrong and false doctrines in the world, the sheep know that the gentle tap of the shepherd's crook or of his rod is designed for their safe passage. Thus, the sheep of the Good Shepherd heed His gentle leading.
What the Kumbaya Crowd(this includes Rev Jackals) understand is verse 5. G_d did not command use to eat on the run but prepare a table for a meal in the presence of our enemies. My own meal has lasted over 4 years before the likes of the typical Kumbaya'er/Pacadorian/Rev Jack, etc. Nothing is hurried; there is no confusion. We are with the Great Shepherd, and even in the midst of our enemies there is perfect peace.
The oil the shepherd carried in a small flask was used to annoint the scratched faces of sheep that had to find their food among the thorns and thistles. We must have the oil of the Holy Spirit of G_d and its filling and soothing. It is by Him we have an unction without which we cannot be a true believer. In all that, by cup runneth over. A cup running over symbolizes abundance because it is filled to overflowing. We preach the Whole Word of G_d and its timeless truth that we may be filled to overflowing with the Holy Spirit of G_d.
In all that, goodness and mercy will not just follow a believer but will remain in constant persuit. They actively seek us out when walking with the Good Shepherd. They are present in times of feasting, as well as times of fasting "all they days of my life."
The house of the Lord here does not imply a church. It does, however, imply The Church and its communion with G_d. As a child of G_d who walks in the pasth of the Good Shepherd, we are always at home with G_d. This indicates sonship, for the servant never abides in the house.
This is the fifth freedom which Roosevelt DID NOT touch upon:
FREEDOM FROM DISERTION
The Shepherd has promised us:
I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee" (Hebrews 13:5), and wheter through green pastures, the still waters, through the valley of deth, or in the presence of our enemies, we know He is always there.
How was the author able to verify the translations, when we don't have the originals?
That's a fair question. Let's suppose you have ten copies and nine are identical to a T. Would you say the exceptional one is the true copy? or has the mistake? Multiply that to over 25,000 copies, and the odds reduce to zero chances there is a mistake.
Actually, God did preserve Scripture, from the book burning rampages Satan set off, for copies sprang up faster than he could destroy. Thus, Satan did the next best thing to martyring saints, burning copies and forbidding Christianity. He perverted its interpretation with the trinity doctrine so that believers can still be in error, unwittingly.
When are you going to lose that self centered pride of your GellyBeeeee and wake up?
Here you have Maggie the Modalist heretic ascribing Biblical doctrine to Satan----blaspheming, and you sit there, nodding with approval, endorsing Maggie the Modalist as a genuine Christian----I feel sorry for you GellyBeeeee, for you have fallen greatly.
Wolfman Jack & WOS's Broad Borders & Large Phylacteries -- Matthew 23, 19:46:12 08/14/02 Wed
They made broad their phylacteries and broadened the borders on their garments
They appointed Titles of honour and respect:
“Word of God”, “Reverend”, “Bishop.”
He cautions his disciples against being herein like them; herein they must not do after their works; "But be not ye called so, for ye shall not be of such a spirit," v. 8, &c.
Here is, A prohibition of pride. They are here forbidden,
First, To challenge titles of honour and dominion to themselves, v. 8-10. It is repeated twice; Be not called Rabbi, neither be ye called Master or Guide: not that it is unlawful to give civil respect to those that are over us in the Lord, nay, it is an instance of the honour and esteem which it is our duty to show them; but,
1. Christ's ministers must not affect the name of Rabbi or Master, by way of distinction from other people; it is not agreeable to the simplicity of the gospel, for them to covet or accept the honour which they have that are in kings' palaces. 2. They must not assume the authority and dominion implied in those names; they must not be magisterial, nor domineer over their brethren, or over God's heritage, as if they had dominion over the faith of Christians: what they received of the Lord, all must receive from them; but in other things they must not make their opinions and wills a rule and standard to all other people, to be admitted with an implicit obedience. The reasons for this prohibition are,
(1.) One is your Master, even Christ, v. 8, and again, v. 10. Note, [1.] Christ is our Master, our Teacher, our Guide. Christ only is our Master, ministers are but ushers in the school. Christ only is the Master, the great Prophet, whom we must hear, and be ruled and overruled by; whose word must be an oracle and a law to us; Verily I say unto you, must be enough to us. And if he only be our Master, then for his ministers to set up for dictators, and to pretend to a supremacy and an infallibility, is a daring usurpation of that honour of Christ which he will not give to another.
(2.) All ye are brethren. Ministers are brethren not only to one another, but to the people; and therefore it ill becomes them to be masters, when there are none for them to master it over but their brethren; yea, and we are all younger brethren, otherwise the eldest might claim an excellency of dignity and power, Gen. xlix. 3. But, to preclude that, Christ himself is the first-born among many brethren, Rom. viii. 29. Ye are brethren, as ye are all disciples of the same Master. School-fellows are brethren, and, as such, should help one another in getting their lesson; but it will by no means be allowed that one of the scholars step into the master's seat, and give law to the school. If we are all brethren, we must not be many masters. Jam. iii. 1.
MATTHEW 23:
24 Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.
25 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.
26 Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.
27 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness.
28 Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
29 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous,
From Matther Henry: We find not Christ, in all his preaching, so severe upon any sort of people as upon these scribes and Pharisees; for the truth is, nothing is more directly opposite to the spirit of the gospel than the temper and practice of that generation of men, who were made up of pride, worldliness, and tyranny, under a cloak and pretence of religion; yet these were the idols and darlings of the people, who thought, if but two men went to heaven, one would be a Pharisee. Now Christ directs his discourse here to the multitude, and to his disciples (v. 1) to rectify their mistakes concerning these scribes and Pharisees, by painting them out in their true colours, and so to take off the prejudice which some of the multitude had conceived against Christ and his doctrine, because it was opposed by those men of their church, that called themselves the people's guides. Note, It is good to know the true characters of men, that we may not be imposed upon by great and mighty names, titles, and pretensions to power. People must be told of the wolves (Acts xx. 29, 30), the dogs (Phil. iii. 2), the deceitful workers (2 Cor. xi. 13), that they may know here to stand upon their guard. And not only the mixed multitude, but even the disciples, need these cautions; for good men are apt to have their eyes dazzled with worldly pomp.
WOS and Wolfman Jack are the wolves, dogs and DECEITFUL workers.
In reading back through the recent posts by both minder and Ron I'm struck with how convincing each man makes his argument, while the subject on which they are speaking is so at odds. I can read Ron's posts and say, "Ah, that's good! I understand that. It sure makes sense." Then I read minder's points and say to myself, "Ahh... that is what he meant. That makes sense to me."
Is there any way both men have valid points? Is there a right or wrong when God is at the center of the controversy? (And, yes Gerry, I happen to admire both of these men a lot, but I don't consider that servile self-seeking flattery... so there!)
The Law of Noncontradiction does not allow two opposing statements to both be true.
I don't believe we Christians restrict God's scope, but we're not talking about what I believe. My point is there are valid arguments (at least to each one of the parties) being made by both sides of the argument. Because I think I'm right in following Christ and believing he is the son of God and is part of the holy Trinity does not mean that minder is wrong to see beyond that or to refuse to see God realization in just Christ as we do, but rather to see God in us all. Why does there have to be a right or wrong in this? Many here act as if there are impressionable children to protect from his "evil" ways. LOL!
ACNR/Dolly/Bethany -- tamarisk, 15:18:21 08/12/02 Mon
Much amusement over on the Kumbaya channel after not logging in there for many daze. I see the Dorito of Pacadorian fame is still engaged in her brand of "thespian Christianity." I read a post to Mags with her typical "what have you done for me lately" flavor.
Then, there is the curious Dorito message of BellyG and Sharon being "so far up Tamarisk's and Mountainman's butts," comments.
Just shows ya how she is at the same point in her illness as her hero "Uncle Ronnie." Most daze, I imagine, she makes new "friends" such as, Charlie, etc.
She fails to remember Sharon telling her she DID NOT agree with how the message was delivered. She did have discernment to know that the Gospel Truth was being preached.
Dorito, being no closer to being a Born Again, Bible Believing Christian than 3 years ago, can't look past the messenger to the truth in the message. She, like Israel of old, would rather "shoot the messenger," than accept the truth in the messenger preaches.
GellyBeeee's continued endorsement of Maggie the Sabellian Monarchian Modalist as a genuine "believer", even though Maggie preaches "another Jesus", who is a changeling, changing into his "Father suit" and then his "Holy Spirit suit", as opposed to the clear teaching of Scripture that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and the second person in the Triune Godhead, as well as Maggie preaching another gospel that adds speaking in tongues as a neccessary element for Salvation, and also preaches that Salvation is secured by one's own righteous acts in opposition to Romans, Ephesians, John, Galatians, Phillipians and the WHOLE of Scripture continues to expose GellyBeeee's puffed up errant pride and his willing refusal to acknowledge the admonition of St. Paul in 2 Corinthians 11:
2 Corinthians 11
3But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity[1] that is in Christ. 4For if he who comes preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or if you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted--you may well put up with it!
GellyBeeeeFish does so not in ignorance, and does so with no respect for God's Word or knowing that as a "self professed teacher", that GellyBeeeeeeFish will be held to a higher standard.
GellyBeeeeeFish would do extremely well to take heed to St. Paul's admonition to inspect himself and leave the "feel good" religion which has him deceived in the pit where it belongs.
From the WND article:
Abandonment Theology is a term devised by the author to describe a faith which deceptively pawns itself off as Christianity by operating in the name of Christ, but which produces fruits destructive to America's God-given freedoms. It comprises what is left today of the militant, power-filled, full-dimensional Christian faith of America's Founders after decades of erosion, watering down and trivializing of God's action mandates by America's Abandonment Clergy. It is a "feel good" theology that patronizes Jesus Christ and thereby gains legitimacy, while at the same time produces disobedience to the commands of God and desertion of Christian duty.
That pretty much sums it up.
Robin is so blind that she can't see that article is talking about HER and the Feel Good religionists at the Regurgitation1 forum, among others.
At the DUELING DEMONS site:
Subject: Re: why does jack-of-demons howell abuse servers by using them to post anonymously
Demon jack: ”Sorry, but when I use them, I do so LEGALLY and that easily proven.
I see Satan’s child has made it over here.
Then he does the Demon Jack dialectical switcheroo and shifts the discussion most adroitly to SAK’s alleged illegal use of government property. Has it occurred to anyone to confront demon jack with the FACT that he does not even know SAK-47’s NAME? Let alone what his particular working relationship happens to be with that computer??? Is this at all very satanic seeming to anyone else besides me, for demon jack to be making such a slanderous accusation without one scintilla of the facts? VERY EVIL MAN!!!
Demon jack has relied heavily on this very profitable ruse to avoid having to discuss the real issue. To divert attention from having to deal with God's Word, he makes the focus one of a personal nature.
Nothing new under the sun, the Judaizers did the same thing to Paul.
The modern Judaizers, as it were, are experts in Marx's dialectical materialism.
Same tactic.
Same false accusations.
Same slander.
Same god.
To The Elect: Note the Parallels to Counterfeit "Bishop" Howell -- Dolly Llama, 19:43:56 08/10/02 Sat
The Battle of the Hinnites
by Deception In The Church, 3/98
Running a major web site that features apologetics on the Third Wave movement has its advantages and disadvantages.
Among the advantages are the blessings of providing a service to others while having access to all the latest material out there on this subject myself, as well as being kept informed by users of the latest heretical stuff going on in the counterfeit revivals.
The disadvantage is the amount of e-mail I have to answer. But really, if taken in perspective, that is part of the ministry of this web site and I take that responsibility seriously.
I have noticed some e-mail trends. When I started this site in 1997, the e-mail I received was about 25% pro-Third Wave and 70% anti-Third Wave with the usual 5% or so non-commitals. I continue to receive many letters with heartrending testimonies thanking me for my collection of articles, books, publications, video and audio. Recently though, I have noticed that the pro-Third Wave e-mails have increased. I am now receiving about a 35% to 60% ratio. This can only mean one thing to those of us who are taking our stand on Scripture and remaining in the "faith once delivered" ... it means we are losing ground.
Another trend I have noticed is that much of the pro-Third Wave e-mail comes from what I can only term "Benny Hinnites". This is because they are very incensed to read anything negative about their hero. They make very disparaging remarks about things like "dead denominations" and "those who don't have the "spirit". They cite Hinn's "miracles" as proof that he is a true man of God.
I have to continually remind them that purported "miracles" are a poor way to judge if someone is in Christ. Not that true miracles aren't still happening today. The Bible does say that "signs and wonders" will "follow" Christian witness. "FOLLOW" is the operative word here ... they are not the main point ... never have, never will be. I point out that "miracles" are now occurring around the world in every religion, some of which make Hinn's miracles look like a third grader shell game. "What about Hindu fakirs that can make a seed appear and then grow a tree which produces fruit from which the audience can pick and eat before their very eyes?" I ask them. "What about accounts of this Maitreya who has appeared out of thin air and disappeared many times in many gatherings?" I ask again. "What about unsubstatiated reports of people being raised from the dead by leaders of other religions?" I add. I site example after example but get no reply.
Apparently the fact that Hinn has not done ONE documentable miracle does not bother these folks. I guess when Hinn is asked for objective proof of the "miracles" he claims and he never is able to produce real proof of them does not make his "absorbees" falter one step from their leader's path. Being proven to be a false miracle worker over and over again does not impress these people. Apparently they just WANT to believe in Benny.
I must tell you that the recent CNN documentary on Hinn was a real eye opener. Did anyone else notice that a 9000 voice choir was singing the Billy Graham favorite "How Great Thou Art"? Did anyone observe that on the last stanza, at the end, when the music is coming to a great crescendo, Hinn walked out on stage dressed in an all-white Kathryn Kuhlmanesque suit, arms raised in bravado, drawing all eyes to himself? Can you imagine Billy Graham doing that? What an immense ego it takes to try to upstage God!
Did anyone buy the story that he really wanted to join the ECFA but his lawyers advised him that "maybe that wouldn't be such a good idea after all"? Does anyone have any idea how much money this charlatan is raking in? Shades of 2 Timothy 3:1-5 come to mind:
"But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God-- having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them."
Remind you of anybody?
The "power unto salvation for those that believe" is in the gospel message, not in the hands of Benny Hinn. You can get zapped all you want and still wake up in Hell. If people like Benny Hinn are not a clarion call for the rest of us to return to preaching the gospel, I am living on a different planet.
I keep reminding my Hinnite e-mailers that judging a man by his "miracles" is a poor way to know if he is truly "born again". After all, the false prophet with a big "F" will most assuredly claim to be a Christian and to have a mega-ultra-super portion of the "anointing". He will waltz into these meetings and do "miracles" the likes of which Benny Hinn has only fantasized about. You watch. Half of Christendom, or what used to be Christendom, will come running to jump in THAT river!
The man of iniquity is about to be revealed. False teachers like Benny Hinn are merely setting the stage for the final apostasy that is coming. All the world's religions will join together in the "anointing" that is not of the Holy Spirit, and have one big millennium party. The sad thing is that, over the shoulder of the Third Wave, even while they are fiddling their lives away, the rest of the world will be crashing and burning in sin and doomed to ultimate damnation.
I hope this is a wake up alarm to the true body of Christ everywhere. These false prophets who are teaching false doctrine, preaching a false gospel and spreading a false anointing are dividing the body ... and the sheep are being seperated from the goats. It is our job to stand in the gap for those who have not been absorbed yet -- inoculated against EVER being able to come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ by people like Benny Hinn.
Seventeen Reasons Why I Left the Tongues Movement -- Exposing a Different Gospel, 19:26:00 08/10/02 Sat
17 REASONS WHY I LEFT THE TONGUES MOVEMENT
By Alfred H. Pohl
202 - 33401 Mayfair Ave., Abbotsford, B.C. V2S 6Z2 Canada
Box 856, Three Hills, Alberta T0M 2A0 Canada
Copyright 1982, 1984, 1991 By Alfred H. Pohl
REASON # 1
SINCERE CONVICTIONS REGARDING THEIR DOCTRINES, EMPHASES, AND PRACTICES
As I said before, I was content and happy in my work and position in the Movement. I felt at home in a fellowship that I grew up in, was accepted and appreciated, with no thought at all of ever leaving it. But as, day after day, I taught my classes in Bible School, and was confronted with serious and difficult questions from keen students, I was driven to a deeper study of the Scriptures. Gradually I became aware of serious shortcomings and discrepancies in our doctrines, emphases, and practices.
I discussed some of these disturbing questions with some of our brethren who also questioned some things. Some also finally left the Movement, but others no doubt felt the price of leaving too great. And it was a big price, as I discovered later on. I did not have any ulterior motives for leaving, I can assure you! The Fundamentalists and non-Tongues people were not about to receive us with open arms! I had no offer of churches to pastor or of lucrative church positions. On the contrary, we were in a sort of "no-man’s land" for about seven years. We had left the Tongues people, being looked upon by some of them as "traitors," and the non-Tongues people weren’t sure that they wanted us or could trust us. It was quite a lonely time, for in those days (1950) the gulf between the Fundamentalists and the Pentecostal was very wide. Today, in many churches and denominations there is practically no gulf at all, with resulting doctrinal confusion and no clear teaching on the doctrine of the Holy Spirit.
THE DILEMMA
Eventually I was confronted with a problem: Could I teach something that my denomination stood for, but which I had come to see was not according to the Scriptures? Could I teach something as truth and mislead these trusting students when I myself did not believe it? Ultimately I had to make a decision. What direction was I to take? I couldn’t teach something that I didn’t believe. I could not mislead others. To teach what I now saw in the Scriptures contrary to the denomination’s doctrines would be very unethical. And beyond that, the thought of the final accounting at the Judgment Seat of Christ had to be dealt with. I could not go on.
At the close of the school year my wife and I left the school, my position of Missionary-Secretary, and the denomination as quietly as we could. Our objective was not to disrupt, not to damage or harm, but to leave and find a fellowship where we could serve, teach, and preach what we were beginning to see in the Scriptures, and to disassociate ourselves from methods and practices that we now felt were unscriptural. God gave us the grace to do it this way, and we thank Him for it! Much that is highly unethical was done and is being done in the name of Christ today. This ought not to be!
Many non-Christians exhibit more ethics than some Christians do! Shame on us! If a Christian does not agree with the doctrines of his church, he should not take it upon himself to undermine that church by teaching otherwise in an underhanded manner. If he cannot do this, then, I believe, he (or she) should be ethical enough to quietly leave and find a fellowship that he can fit into. But let’s not break up churches!
Right here I would like to say something about "divisiveness" that is characteristic of some of the Charismatics. Why should attempts be made to take over or split churches, all in the Lord’s name but not to the Lord’s glory? How much heartache, strife, and hatred is generated in these attempts which purportedly should bring about a more spiritual result, when actually the real result often is Corinthian carnality and tragedy. The admonition of Ephesians 4:3 still stands today: "Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace." Almost anyone can disrupt, break up, or split a church; that usually isn’t very hard to do, but it is the true work of the Holy Spirit that keeps it together. And you, Christian, have the biblical responsibility to work toward unity and harmony in your church! Are you working at it?
I have recently been in a church which was almost split right down the middle by the introduction of Charismatic teaching, with the resulting factions and strife. It was heart-rending to see the division and devastation caused, not by the Holy Spirit, for He does not work toward division and strife, but the disruption was the result of the work of our enemy, Satan!
On the other hand, a non-tongues Christian fellowshipping in a tongues- speaking church needs to be ethical, too! If he cannot agree, let him go elsewhere instead of stirring up strife within that church. I say, then, brethren, let us be careful and ethical! God will hold each one of us responsible if we break up, divide, or cause disunity in a church. It is a dangerous matter to "mutilate the Bride of Christ"! Beware! Who dares to lay his hand upon Christ’s Body—the Church? (of course, I am here referring to a true Bible-believing church). I believe there will be some serious accounting called for at the Judgment Seat of Christ in this regard. Again, let’s be careful and ethical!
When we left the Tongues Movement, I had prayed this prayer, "Lord, don’t let me become bitter against my brethren!" I knew that the natural tendency would be to fight back when I was accused of ulterior motives or of denying the Holy Spirit or of other unpleasant accusations. But I thank the Lord that He has most wonderfully answered that prayer! In the light of the Judgment Seat of Christ I am thankful that the Holy Spirit put that prayer in my heart.
Why are Christians losing America?
"I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth."
– Revelation 3:15-16 KJV
Most Americans call themselves Christians.
Twice they chose as their supreme leader Bill Clinton – a sexual predator and pathological liar who regarded the "religious right" as enemies and radical homosexuals as friends, and who by any meaningful and historical measure was a traitor.
After that, millions of Christians came within a hair's breadth of electing Clinton's partner in crime, Al Gore – another pathological liar, a radical environmentalist who reveres "Gaia" but believes the internal-combustion engine should be outlawed (according to his book, "Earth in the Balance").
Christians have stood on the sidelines during the breathtaking transformation of their once-great Judeo-Christian culture into today's neo-pagan, Sodom-and-Gomorrah-style freak show.
Christians have lost the 30-year war to protect the unborn. Even easy victories – like partial-birth abortion, which virtually everyone opposes – have eluded them.
Christians have lost the war for America's schools – which have been scrubbed antiseptically clean of the Christian principles and traditions that once guided those institutions, and are now filled instead with every conceivable form of propaganda and perversion.
Christians have lost their former influence in politics, in the press, in entertainment, in literature – in virtually every major area of life.
And now, Christians are losing the war for their very own institutions – their churches. The clergy sex scandal is the tip of the iceberg. Both the Catholic Church and most of the major Protestant denominations are literally being ripped apart – from within – by double agents who pretend to be "faithful" but actually loathe Christianity's historical precepts and values.
It's a harsh indictment – but hey, the truth hurts.
In his recent book, "Abandonment Theology," author John W. Chalfant describes the precipitous decline of Judeo-Christian influence in law, culture and public policy in America, noting the 1947 Supreme Court decision that invented the modern "separation of church and state" and later decisions that outlawed Bible reading and prayer in the nation's public schools. He writes:
Once God was shown the door, America went into chaos. Scholastic Aptitude Test scores plummeted. Violent crime rocketed upward. The abortion mills did an unprecedented business as they devised ever-more-sadistic ways to kill children before and even during birth. Bill Clinton, elected president of the United States in 1992, aggressively advocated homosexuality, which God calls "abomination." The Abandonment Clergy and their millions of undiscerning followers stood mute while America's sudden loss of greatness became obvious even to the world.
What's this about an "Abandonment Clergy"? Chalfont explains:
Abandonment Theology is a term devised by the author to describe a faith which deceptively pawns itself off as Christianity by operating in the name of Christ, but which produces fruits destructive to America's God-given freedoms. It comprises what is left today of the militant, power-filled, full-dimensional Christian faith of America's Founders after decades of erosion, watering down and trivializing of God's action mandates by America's Abandonment Clergy. It is a "feel good" theology that patronizes Jesus Christ and thereby gains legitimacy, while at the same time produces disobedience to the commands of God and desertion of Christian duty.
Chalfont describes how the "Abandonment Clergy" and their followers have responded to increasingly audacious attacks on Christian America during the past half-century:
Incredibly, this was the ultimate hour for the Abandonment Clergy to see the light of truth. They faced blatant godlessness at every turn. They could have abandoned their own ways and made a comeback to the faith of the Founding Fathers. But what did they do?
They observed the horrible, deteriorating conditions in America, determined that she was headed into rubble just like pagan Rome and that we must be living in the prophesied "last days" and "end times." Therefore, with the end and the "rapture of the church" so apparently near, why fight?
"After all," these clergymen said, "We're in this world, not of it, so to heck with it," and "Compared to eternity we're here only for an instant." They told us that all that really counts is that we "lead as many people as possible to salvation and let our corrupted country continue on its death course."
Faulty Christian teaching, says Chalfant, is the only way to explain why so many well-meaning Christians are paralyzed into inaction:
The Abandonment Clergy and their followers have been teaching, preaching and saturating the media and their church members with the doctrine of surrender and political non-involvement. They are not teaching us to surrender to Christ through obedience to the commandments of God. Rather, they tell us that America is finished, that the collapse of our heritage and our freedoms has been predetermined within a definable near-future time frame and is therefore beyond our control.
Chalfont takes direct aim at those obsessed with their own imminent "rapture":
The legitimate study of eschatology (the future in prophecy) has been converted into a doctrine of futility and surrender by the clergy who, in defiance of Christ's injunction (see Mark 13:32,33), insist upon assigning near-future dates to the "last days," the "rapture of the church" and the "second coming" of Christ. … At the very least the clergy should understand that their "last days" teachings are nothing more than personal speculations. Christ taught that futility of attitude denies the faith and leads to enslavement. He promised great rewards for those who endure to the end in His cause of freedom.
Chalfont is right. But the problem with contemporary Christianity goes way beyond mere political non-involvement. Do we dare take an honest look?
One reason for the multitude of attacks on Christianity is that evil always attacks good – because it is good – because good shines a bright and painful light on the works of darkness. Jesus Himself warned His followers to expect to be persecuted, just as He was persecuted. This is the reason, and a profound one, that Christians offer to explain why they, their values and their institutions are always under attack.
However, there is another, and far more decisive, reason for the spectacular decline of Christianity in our modern era: Christianity today is very different from what it once was.
America is full of people who have accepted the idea that Jesus Christ died for their sins, and that this belief guarantees them a place in Heaven.
Some are very sincere. They are truly mortified at their former sins, genuinely contrite before God and those they have offended, and they grieve over their continuing compulsions. They have awakened from their former life of gross sin, and now want nothing more than to do the will of their Creator – whatever that may be, wherever it may lead them, whatever they may suffer. They take seriously the commandments and principles given by their Savior, and make their life revolve around emulating Him, to the best of their ability. They are, quite literally, followers of Christ – that is, Christians.
On the other hand, there are countless "Christians" who believe they have a ticket to Heaven, and nothing else really matters very much to them. Their attitude can only be described as brazen. They live lives of shallowness and selfishness, of petty emotions and jealousies, of distraction and escape, of ego and pride, and sometimes of gross corruption and treachery – remember, Clinton is a churchgoing "Christian." This version of Christianity, more prevalent than you can imagine, literally justifies and excuses dirty rotten scoundrels. Its adherents, while living it up under the smug delusion that they're "saved," drive other people crazy (and away from real Christianity) with their hypocrisy.
And then there are, of course, millions of "lukewarm" Christians in between these two groups. They go to church and sing songs and sometimes read the Bible, and maybe "try to be a good Christian" – but they're basically clueless. Their marriage is on the rocks and their children are wearing tongue studs. They believe in society's atheistic "experts" and they're addicted to Internet porn.
Some Christians are actually worse off after being "saved" than before. At least before they were "saved," they had a natural respect for, or fear of, ultimate justice – an inborn sense that somehow we all reap what we sow. After being "saved," that's gone for the insincere "Christian." For him or her, belief in Jesus amounts to a "get-out-of-Hell-free" card, a sort of spiritual "diplomatic immunity." It's like the profligate teenage son of an important Arab diplomat who knows he won't be prosecuted under U.S. law while living here, so he drives recklessly, molests women and generally lives it up with impunity. And because the natural and necessary fear of consequences has been unwisely removed from his life, he falls that much more easily to the temptations of his lower nature.
For millions of people, Christianity has become a bumper-sticker religion. Simply by saying, one time, a single phrase – "I accept Jesus Christ as my savior and repent of my sins" – you are guaranteed salvation and eternal life in heaven, no matter how insincere or selfish or shallow your motives for doing so.
Is this the kind of salvation Jesus referred to when He said, "But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved." (Matthew 24:13 KJV) Endure to the end? What's with that? I thought this salvation thing was all settled by that altar call back in '89.
Is this what He meant when He said, "If ye keep My commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept My Father's commandments, and abide in His love." (John 15:10) Many Christians don't bother to pay any attention at all to God's commandments. Hey, what the heck difference does it make? I'm already saved!
Is this what Paul referred to when he said, "I die daily"? (1 Cor. 15:31) The apostle's poignant and intensely meaningful reference to the duty of man to give up the life of pride in all its forms, to die to the "carnal mind" – considered central to Christians of past eras – is all but absent from most of today's churches.
Christianity – the deepest, most meaningful and awe-inspiring religion ever, the magnificent driving force behind Western Civilization, and the transcendent hope of mankind's future – has been dumbed down by these types into a comic-book religion. Turn on your radio and listen to some of the pitches: "Do you want to go to Hell – forever? Well, think about this: What if it really is true that Jesus is the Son of God, and that He is the only way to eternal life in Heaven? Do you want to miss out on eternal life? Then why not say yes to Jesus right now, just to make sure? You'll like it – it's a natural high."
Such altar calls are little more than an insurance pitch. "Hey, buy a little extra insurance, then you can go on with your selfish life and be guaranteed a place in Heaven no matter what."
Just repeat the salvation "formula" – like an Eastern mantra – and you're saved. Period.
For this type of Christian, there's no need to do good works, because they're saved by grace, not works. No need to obey God's commands, because they're already saved, so why bother? They don't need to try to help make it a better world, because they're gonna be "raptured" soon and the rest of the suckers who are left behind can sort out the mess.
Is it any wonder the West is dying?
What's missing in all of this, of course, is a love of truth.
"This people draweth nigh unto Me with their mouth, and honoureth Me with their lips; but their heart is far from Me," said Jesus. (Matthew 15:8 KJV)
Truth predates the incarnation of Christ, it predates the Bible. It's the substance of our bond with God. If you have a love of truth, you're just not ever really satisfied with anything else, and you want to know the truth about everything – especially about yourself. If you're wrong about something, you want to know it. If you've been living a lie, you're willing to see it – no matter what the cost.
If you don't have a little bit of this quality, you don't have squat – even if you call yourself a Christian.
To a truth-seeking soul, the story of Christ – not as told by a plastic minister, but as told by someone, anyone, who's real – has an internal reverberation of truth in the listener's soul. It has the quality of a wonderful old story you heard long ago, in your childhood, but had forgotten.
At the core of this life-changing religion is the individual believer's love and appreciation and acceptance and embrace of Christ's sacrifice – the ultimate demonstration of God's love for His wayward children.
But the problem with the way Christianity is "taught" today is that it doesn't require a love of truth. It doesn't require honest introspection, or courage, or self-denial, or patience. The only ingredient it needs is a guilty person who's sick of feeling guilty, who wants relief, wants to feel better about himself and doesn't want to go to Hell. But even the most insincere person wants to feel better about himself, wants relief from guilt, and fears death and what may lie beyond.
So, it's this compartmentalization and trivialization of Christianity – into a mantra of belief – but separated from works, from obedience to God's laws, and even more fundamentally, separated from basic honesty, integrity, love of truth and true repentance, that has ushered in a generation of shallow and ineffectual Christians.
Did you ever wonder why American founders like Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin completely rejected institutional Christianity – what some call "Churchianity"? Maybe even back then too many of the churches were just too pale a reflection of Christ's true message for them to stomach.
The Christian Church in America needs a revival. But it doesn't necessarily need ever-bigger tents with tens of thousands of people swaying back and forth, singing songs, giving speeches and getting pumped up – and then going home and watching television.
America's real revival will happen when those same people go home, go to their room, close the door, take a deep breath – and take a good, long, hard look at themselves in the mirror. And then, quietly and humbly and fervently, they ask the living God for help, for insight, for direction – for salvation.
WHISTLEBLOWER MAGAZINE
THE NEW PAGANISM
How Christianity is being replaced by 'green' religion, goddess worship, globalism
Relentless attacks on America's Christian churches – not just from without, but from within – which are steadily remolding institutionalized Christianity to serve a new, non-Christian, globalist agenda, are the focus of August's eye-opening edition of WorldNetDaily's popular monthly Whistleblower magazine.
Editor's note: During August – the one-year anniversary of Whistleblower (formerly "WorldNet magazine") – WorldNetDaily is making some spectacular and unprecedented free offers as subscription incentives to those WND readers who don't yet receive Whistleblower each month. See "SPECIAL OFFER" at end of this story.
Titled "THE NEW PAGANISM," the August issue is subtitled "How America's Christian churches are being invaded by radical environmentalism, goddess worship and global government."
For years, Christians have stood by helplessly as their once-dominant religion has been increasingly scoffed at, marginalized and demonized. They have watched a dizzying succession of outrageous court decisions – outlawing the 10 Commandments in schools and courtrooms, forbidding acknowledgement of God in graduation speeches, and most recently, declaring public recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance unconstitutional.
And they have reeled at prosecutions that criminalize conscientious Christians, such as that of the Canadian printer fined $5,000 for refusing to print materials for a "gay rights" group. Or the shocking revelation that the Swedish parliament is pushing to amend that country's constitution to ban speech or writing opposing homosexuality – even within churches themselves – violations of which could result in prison sentences.
But while these are the conflict's familiar flashpoints, the real fight lies elsewhere. Indeed, the biggest war of all is that raging within the churches themselves.
The Catholic Church's devastating clergy sex scandal – with its seemingly endless revelations of predatory homosexual priests molesting boys, and the stunning failure of their superiors to put a stop to it – is the tip of the iceberg. As August's Whistleblower shows, the fierce battle for control, not only of the Catholic Church, but of many of the mainline Protestant denominations as well, is the real story.
The combatants range from the familiar front-line storm troopers – homosexual activists, ACLU lawyers, atheists – to the exotic – environmentalists, the United Nations, globalists, New Agers, witches, occultists and many others almost too strange to believe. But all are engaged in an ultimate fight – a battle to the death, winner takes all – for control of the major institutions of the Christian religion.
"America is rapidly changing from the jewel of Judeo-Christian Western Civilization to a screaming babel of wild religious movements, each more wacky than the next, and all animated by rebellion against the religion and values upon which America was founded, and which made it the greatest nation in world history," said WND Editor and CEO Joseph Farah.
And just what, exactly, is attempting to replace Christianity as the dominant religion in America?
Superficially, it appears to be just a freak show, ranging from the seemingly harmless "Entertainment Paganism" ("Dungeons and Dragons," "white witchcraft," "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "Witchblade") to "Teen Cult Paganism" (teens in Gothic drag, freaky hair colors, tattoos, body piercing, "body art," black garb, studs and chains) to "Ecology Theology" (free-form sexual morality, "gaia" worship, native spirituality rituals) to the wide-ranging "New Age Movement" (believes humankind is on the cusp of a new dawn, beginning new phase in evolutionary history) to "Dark Paganism" (believes there's no such thing as "evil," and that destruction and death are forms of beauty) to "Wicca" (witchcraft is reportedly the fastest growing religion in Australia) and "Satanism" (consciously acknowledges Satan as master, and seeks power to corrupt all things, especially Christianity).
But that's only the surface. As WND reveals in this issue of Whistleblower, the paganization of America's churches – already well under way – is consciously intended to usher in a "new age" of global government, with the United Nations as the global "brain" of a new world order.
And no, this is not conspiracy stuff. It's real – and it's happening now.
A new world religion
This "new" religious worldview is sugar-coated with high-minded and universal ideals of environmental protection and species preservation, but the ultimate agenda behind the movement is much darker.
The ultimate purpose of "green religion" is to convince the people of the world to embrace world governance – which for a free nation like America represents a massive loss of national sovereignty and personal freedom – for the supposed sake of Mother Earth ("gaia") and the environment. After all, it is a lot easier to administer world government if all people believe it represents their salvation, rather than tyranny.
How is this to be accomplished? To begin with, assign new names to old demons. What once was called "paganism" has been renamed and assigned a new respectability as the "gaia hypothesis." The once-hated idea of world government has been renamed "global governance." The concept of national sovereignty is eroding and transmuting into the concept of "sovereign equality."
"The vanguard of this movement," explains Henry Lamb in "The rise of global green religion," "people like James Parks Morton, James Lovelock, Robert Muller, Al Gore, Timothy Wirth and many, many others, have been 'enlightened' through their biocentric belief in gaia" – the belief that the earth itself is a conscious, living organism – "and therefore they know what is best for the planet. They also know that the only way to protect the sacred gaia is to control the people who are degrading her. The only way to control the people is through an omnipotent government that is, at this moment, consolidating its power into an ever-growing bureaucracy, now stretching around the globe, extending its tentacles into every corner of human life, creating de facto global governance."
And guess what? Not only has this new "enlightened" worldview permeated Western schools and governments, but America's Christian churches themselves also are rapidly being converted to this new religious paradigm.
Most Americans have no idea this is happening. Many don't want to know. And yet, Americans are the only power on earth strong enough to prevent global governance from taking control of the entire planet. The August Whistleblower shows the way back.
I see where Dorito has come to yet another "snatch me bald" comment, "if I ever post on these forums again."
Of course she has to defend her "friend" Mindless. She, in her typical lost, unregenerated spiritual state, has defended the Bobblehead Demon, T.M.S., her "Rev"(CGSHB) over on Reagan. She wholeheartedly supported their endeavor to get Reagan to shut down that forum. She is doing the same over at Trinity and WOG.(the last I checked, anyway)
Just your typical RCC nut having fallen too far from the popish bolt.
Thank you for posting that verse from Matthew. I don't see where Jesus said we must schmooze up to false prophets and doctrine. We Christians need to get over being intimidated into compatability with heresy.
Actually, Maggie the Sabellian Monarchian Modalist is right on that one.
So why do you and Furry Murry "schmooze up to false prophets and false doctrine" in the form of Maggie's heresy of Modalism????
You said, Likewise, a Christian can spot a teaching that is at variance with Biblical teaching and a spirit that is not the Spirit of God. Margaret and I are just being good bank tellers, having recognized a counterfeit, we summarily reject it.
If you are so adept at spotting counterfeits, then why can't you spot the counterfeit Modalist heresy of Margaret, who teaches that God is one person who changes into His "Father suit" to manifest as the Father, then makes a quick change into His Son suit, to manifest as the Son, then another quick change into His Holy Spirit suit to manifest as the Holy Spirit?
Could it be that you are not as adept at spotting counterfeits as you boast?
Yes, it is!
WRT Mags at R1--"Similarly, when that Spirit comes upon you today, causes you to faint or speak in unknown tongues, or prophecy, or laugh and be drunk, you truly "know" God in the spirit. You cannot reason this out."
2 Cor 11:1-6
1 Would to God ye could bear with me a little in my folly: and indeed bear with me.
2 For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.
3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
4 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.
5 For I suppose I was not a whit behind the very chiefest apostles.
6 But though I be rude in speech, yet not in knowledge; but we have been throughly made manifest among you in all things.
(KJV)
The basic Kumbaya'er wants their ears tickled. They want a PC message which does NOT include Hell. They only wish, in their emotionally driven MINDS to be drunk in the spirit. They cannot, nor will they see the very fact that Satan comes as an "angel of light." He can mimic the things of G_d to make them look like they came from G_d. This is were the True, Born Again, Bible Believing Christian needs to:
1 Pet 5:8
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
(KJV)
ACNR/Dolly/Bethany -- tamarisk, 09:33:09 08/08/02 Thu
I think of these verse often when viewing the typical R1 tripe postings. There is a pointed message here for the Dorito unit of Pacadorian fame concerning here scorn for what she considers "judgemental" postings. In her spiritual lack of biblical discernment; that wont for the difference between that which is literal and figurative; she falls woefull short of the mark.
Dorito needs to confess and repent of her professed "Catholicism," not looking back to her profession "I well be estranged from my husband if I leave the Catholic church." She needs to bury her rosary beads, which she clings on to tightly at her "vigil" struggle sessions. She may discover the freedom of bondage to the heretical teachings of Romanism and, even, lead Charlie out of the darkness of the RCC.
Luke 12:57-59
57 Yea, and why even of yourselves judge ye not what is right?
58 When thou goest with thine adversary to the magistrate, as thou art in the way, give diligence that thou mayest be delivered from him; lest he hale thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and the officer cast thee into prison.
59 I tell thee, thou shalt not depart thence, till thou hast paid the very last mite.
(KJV)
It is apparent that the typical R1 poster believes they(even I) make G_d our adversary by sin. He ALONE has the "right" and the "might," on His side in the affairs of men. Of the three great institutions ordained by G_d Himself;
The Family
Human Government
And His Church
He reserved His Truth and judgment in of men for Himself. Men have control over the Family, Human Government and The Church, but G_d ALONE judges men. This is why it is so very important for men to "judge righteous judgment" in the affairs of men.
A south wind is blowning in the desert today pushing the monsoon mosture to the east into New Mexico. It will be a dry 111 degrees here to day. It will stay this way until there is a letting up or a changing of wind direction. Only then will the monsoon moisture return to the desert.
Eccl 9:12-13
12 For man also knoweth not his time: as the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare; so are the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falleth suddenly upon them.
13 This wisdom have I seen also under the sun, and it seemed great unto me:
(KJV)
Y'shua preached not only to the people, but to the "clergy" of that day. His timeless, Holy Word reveals the same truth today.
I have not forgotten the message I promised on why I was NOT saved in a Pentecostal church. I will have more time to give it after school starts next week.
I also have messages concerning AmeriKa's coming "celebration" of 9.11 and why I don't care about the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals "ruling" and stay of their opinion in reciting the Pledge in schools.
Welcome jack and WOG -- A Catholic, NOT Roman, 13:56:02 08/07/02 Wed
This is why we expose you false prophets:
SHOULD WE EXPOSE THESE MEN AND WHY?
Yes, we should according to the Scriptural pattern thus showing love and concern for the flock of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Jude 3&4. "it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. For there are certain members crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men…" Our faith is worth contending for!
Prov.22:3. "The prudent man forseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on , and are punished." If we can discern the evil then we can hide (protect) ourselves but the simple people who are unable to discern correctly, will be punished if they listen to these apostates & false prophets.
Jer.14: 15-16. "Therefore thus saith the Lord concerning the prophets that prophesy in my name, and I sent them not, yet they say, sword and famine shall not be in this land: By sword and famine shall those prophets be consumed. And the people to whom they prophesy shall be cast out in the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword; and they shall have none to bury them, them, their wives, nor their sons, nor their daughters: for I will pour their wickedness upon them" It is abundantly clear that not only will the apostates be punished but also all who listen to them.
Zeph.3 :4-5. "Her prophets are insolent and treacherous persons; her priests have polluted the sanctuary, they have done violence to the law. The just Lord is in the midst thereof; he will not do iniquity; every morning doth he bring his judgment to light, he faileth not; but the unjust knoweth no shame." Yes. The apostates and those that listen to them know no shame. Staggering, isn’t it when we know the holiness of God and the purity of his Word and so not only are the apostates to be punished, but all who listen to them. God brings their sins to the light every morning & although they are not destroyed now, God’s judgment is coming: he faileth not; their iniquitous & shameful conduct will be judged.
Eph.6:18. "Praying always with all prayer & supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints." This scripture comes immediately after taking unto you the full armor of God. We should care enough for all saints enough to expose these enemies of God.
1Cor.5:12-13. "For what have I to do to judge them also that are outside (the church)? Do not ye judge them that are within. But them that are outside the church God judgeth. Therefore put away (excommunicate) from among yourselves that wicked person. Excommunication is called for!
1Tim.5:19-20. "Against an elder receive not an accusation, but before two or three witnesses. Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear." There are many in the churches masquerading as great men of God who should have been exposed, rebuked and excommunicated long ago!
Jn.10:11-13. "I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. But he that is a hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep. The hireling fleeth because he is a hireling, and careth not for the sheep." The truth is that many shepherds are really only hirelings, working for money, acclaim and security and they love to be called ‘pastor’. Despite all their pretence, they care not for the sheep of God’s sheepfold, but only use the sheep, allowing the wolf to come and attack them with apostate teachings and false prophecies.
2Cor.5:10-11. "For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men..."
It is interesting that in the New Testament writings that Jesus, Peter, John & Paul all named names and exposed serious sin. In the Old Testament there are many there who have been named for all to read also!
1.JESUS
Lk.22:48. Jesus named Judas. "Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss?
2.PETER
Acts 5:1-12. Peter named Ananias & Sapphira. We read here the story of Ananias and Sapphira who had sold some land, and had pledged the proceeds for the work of God, but held back a portion of the price they received for the land & thus had lied to the Holy Ghost. This cost them both their lives.
Acts 1:16-20. Peter named Judas. He recounts how Judas was numbered among the apostles but had betrayed Jesus and had purchased a field with the reward of iniquity and had fallen down headlong & his bowels had gushed out and he died from the fall. Acts 8:9-24. Peter named Simon the Sorcerer who had tried to purchase the gifts of God with money and to use them for his own benefit.
3.PAUL
Acts 13:8-11. Paul named Elymas the Sorcerer who had withstood Paul and was blinded for a time for his endeavours to pervert what God had called Paul to do. 2Tim.1:15. Paul named Phygellus & Hermogenes. "that all they that be in Asia be turned away from me: of whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes."
2Tim.2:17-18. Paul named Hymeneus & Philetus. "And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymeneus and Philetus who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some."
2Tim. 4:10. Paul named Demas." "For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed."
2Tim. 3:8. Paul name Jannes and Jambres, "Now as Jannes & Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith."
Although their names were not mentioned in the Old Testament, Paul named these magicians who had, by magical powers, copied Godly miracles that were wrought through a true man of God, Moses. Hinn and others likewise copy miracles and signs and wonders through their magic, and in Hinn’s case also through his necromancy and contact with the demonic spirit world.
Deut:18:10-11. "There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer."
4.JOHN
3Jn.9&10." John named Diotrephes, "but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the pre-eminence among them, receiveth us not. Wherefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he doeth, prating against us with malicious words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and forbiddeth them that would, and casteth them out of the church."
Even today pastors are casting God’s true saints out from the church if they voice their concern about the false revival allegedly happening in the church & the strange fire and the lunatic laughing and monkey business going on. It is happening!
Yes, it is Biblically correct to expose apostates and false prophets. False prophecy is a very serious sin in the Bible so let us look at a few of these scriptures.
Deut.18:20-22. "the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die. And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the Lord hath not spoken? When a prophet speaketh in the name of the Lord, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him."
Yes, we know the litany of false prophesies and teachings that have come from the mouth of people like Benny Hinn, Rodney Howard Browne, Kenneth Copeland and others & we have been warned how serious their sin is e.g. that prophet shall die & thou shalt not be afraid of him. When we hear Benny Hinn bringing a curse against those true men of God and their families and children who oppose his error and nefarious ways, we are told quite clearly not to be afraid of him, and that he is only speaking presumptuously from the futility of his own heart. We also know that we are not to listen to the prophet even if his prophesy does come to pass if he seeks to turn your heart away from the Lord, thy God.
Deut.13:1-5. "If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder, And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them; Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the Lord your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all
your soul. Ye shall walk after the Lord your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him. And that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams shall be put to death; because he hath spoken to turn you away from the Lord your God."
God is testing and proving his people in these last days but many are cleaving to and listening to false prophets and not to what it says in His word. They have been turned away from the Lord their God and unto fables, hearkening to words the Lord hath not spoken.
Jer.14:14-15. "Then the Lord said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought and the deceit of their heart. Therefore thus saith the Lord concerning the prophets that prophesy in my name, and I sent them not, yet they say, sword and famine shall not be in the land; by sword and famine shall those prophets be consumed."
We are certainly warned concerning false prophets so why is the church so easily deceived? Their discernment is fatally flawed for lack of knowledge of the Scriptures.
Jer.20:6. "And thou, Pashur, and all that dwell in thine house shall go into captivity: and thou shalt come to Babylon, and there thou shalt die, and shalt be buried there, thou, and all thy friends, to whom thou hast prophesied lies.
Jer.28:15-17. "Then said the prophet Jeremiah unto Hananiah the prophet, Hear now, Hananiah; The Lord hath not sent thee; but thou makest this people to trust in a lie. Therefore thus saith the Lord; Behold, I will cast thee from off the face of the earth: this year thou shalt die, because thou hast taught rebellion against the Lord. So Hananiah the prophet died the same year in the seventh month."
If you are listening to false prophets you are listening to rebellion against the Lord, and you are trusting in a lie, for the Lord did not send these men but they are false prophets, wolves in sheep’s clothing, hirelings and apostates.
Zech.13:3. "And it shall come to pass, that when any shall yet prophesy, then his father and his mother that begat him shall say unto him, Thou shalt not live, for thou speakest lies in the name of the Lord: and his father and his mother that begat him shall thrust him through when he prophesies."
False prophesy is very serious, for if you do so, then you are declaring that what we are saying is what the Lord has said, when the Lord has Not spoken through you.
Dake's Dubious Doctrine
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
While many have documented various aberrational teachings within the modern Christian church, predominantly within what has come to be known as the "word-faith" movement, few have taken a continuing strong position against what is, perhaps, a greater danger to the church at large. Many are familiar with persons such as Benny Hinn or Kenneth Copeland who both have very large and influential ministries with global impact. Some are familiar with names like E.W. Kenyon, considered by many to be the true origin of the word-faith doctrines, and his association with the metaphysical movement earlier in this century. However, as the battle continues over this or that fragmented doctrine coming from these "teachers" (which in all good conscience should continue), we seem to take no notice of a source of unsound teaching little discussed and even endorsed by many. I am herein referring to the Dake's Annotated Reference Bible which sells at a rate of approximately 30,000 per year and has been called "The Pentecostal Study Bible".
Many have felt that the impact of Finis Dake's work has diminished through the course of time since its first publication in 1963. Although the sales of his Annotated Reference Bible have been perhaps greater at other times, his impact has taken on global proportions through the ministries of such people as Joyce Meyers, Marilyn Hickey, Rod Parsley, Creflo Dollar, Ralph Wilkerson, Jimmy Swaggart, Jerry Seville, Rita Bennett, and, of course, Benny Hinn. These people have used, endorsed, and, apparently, developed much of their theology from Dake materials. In the case of Benny Hinn, he admitted having taught his congregation from Dake's Gods Plan forMan to Charisma magazine in the August, 1993 issue (page 25). (It was here Hinn was asked to comment on his statement regarding "nine members of the Godhead".) The legacy and teaching of Finis Dake indeed lives on, then, in these persons. His influence continuing, unabated, multiplied many times over, in books, tapes and now broadcast 24 hours a day on international "Christian" television. The only thing absent from the teaching which continues today, is the name "Dake".
(See: List of other Dake Supporters and their comments.)
Although some of the notations found within the Dake bible may be helpful to understand occasional historic perspectives from which scripture was written, Finis J. Dake has tread into areas of doctrine which not only do not represent the "pentecostal" position, but are found to be contrary to the doctrinal position of the Christian church throughout history. Primarily, I am concerned with what would be considered "major" doctrines" of the church: the Trinity, the nature of Jesus, and the nature of God. These will be the focus of this study, leaving for another time Dake's teachings of a pre-Adamic world created for Lucifer and the demons, the impregnation of women by demons to pollute the human blood line, Job's utter sinfulness during his time of testing, and Jonah's death inside the "whale".
The import of this critique cannot be underestimated. Correct understanding of Jesus (who he is and what he did) and of God (his nature and character) is precisely the line that separates a Christian believer from a Jehovah's Witness or a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints. While it is recognized that we have, in many areas, liberty in Christ to hold slightly differing positions on some doctrines (ie: drinking of wine, which day to honor as the sabbath, forms of church government, etc.), it is also recognized that there are central truths within the Christian church which must be held to in order to continue to be "in the Church".
With these things in mind, we will examine the doctrinal position of Finis J. Dake on several points and compare his position to that of the historical Christian church.
According to Dake : (all emphasis in original quotes)
Note : All quotations taken from the Dake's Annotated Reference Bible -- Seventeenth Printing March, 1986
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Nature of God --
"He is a person with a personal spirit body, a personal soul, and a personal spirit, like that of angels and like that of man except His body is of spirit substance instead of flesh and bones." (Dake's Annotated Reference Bible, N.T. pg. 97, note r)
"He has a personal spirit body... shape... image and likeness of a man... He has bodily parts such as, back parts... heart... hands and fingers... mouth... lips and tongue... feet... eyes... ears... hair... head... face... arms... loins... and other bodily parts."
(Ibid.)
"He has a bodily presence, and goes from place to place in a body like all other persons."
(Ibid.)
"He has a voice, breath, and countenance. He wears clothes, eats, rests, dwells in a mansion and in a city located on a material planet called Heaven."
(Dake's Annotated Reference Bible, N.T. pg. 97-96, note r)
"He has been seen bodily many times."
(Dake's Annotated Reference Bible, N.T. pg. 96, note r, continued)
"This plainly teaches that God, as well as men and angels, is limited to one place as far as the body is concerned. The doctrine of omnipresence of God can be proved, but not His omnibody. In His body He goes from place to place like other persons."
(Dake's Annotated Reference Bible, O.T. pg. 15, note n)
"Here we have another proof that God receives knowledge of true conditions and becomes acquainted with existing facts." (Dake's Annotated Reference Bible, O.T. pg 15, note m)
While Scripture is certainly filled with various descriptive language concerning God, these verses have always been interpreted as ways that God has used to explain himself in language we can comprehend as humans. To give literal meaning to anthropomorphic language becomes absurd when considering the many passages of Scripture which speak of God having "wings" (Ps. 17:8), being a "fortress" (Ps. 18: 2), "a hen" (Matt. 23:37) and "a tower" (Prov. 18:10). Metaphoric illustration to describe an infinite being to finite mortals is not only appropriate, it is necessary. Understanding how energy is transferred to heat to make toast can be difficult. The structure of DNA molecules is still beyond the reach of most intelligent people. Understanding an eternal God, omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient will only occur on that day when we will know him as we are known, and that in his kingdom.
While it remains unclear as to why Finis Dake should think that a body made of "spirit substance" has need of a "heart" (a muscle whose only function is to move blood throughout the vascular system), it is clear that by insisting on literal interpretations where anthropomorphic language is used, Dake has made God in our image and likeness. Finis Dake realizes, also, that a body which "goes from place to place like all other persons" does tend to create problems with the concept of omnipresence as well. He explains this to his readers on page 81 in his concordance by saying : "God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are all present where there are beings with whom they have dealings; but they are not omnibody, that is, their bodies are not omnipresent. All three go from place to place bodily as other beings in the universe do". Using orthodox language to create the illusion of doctrinal correctness, then replacing the accepted definition for one of your own making, is a tactic usually reserved for Jehovah's Witness' and Mormons. Mr. Dake, however, rises to the challenge to defend his beliefs using any and all means necessary, including the creation of a new term, "omnibody".
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Trinity --
It is a fallacy "that there is only one person or one being called God."
(Dake's Annotated Reference Bible, N.T. pg. 280, column 1)
It is a fallacy "that there is a difference in meaning of three human persons and three divine persons." (Dake's Annotated Reference Bible, N.T. pg. 280, column 1)
It is a fallacy "that the Trinity is beyond human comprehension and bewilders the most learned." (Dake's Annotated Reference Bible, N.T. pg. 280, column 1)
It is a fallacy "that God has no body, bodily parts, or passions like human beings - nothing of a bodily nature." (Dake's Annotated Reference Bible, N.T. pg. 280, column 1)
It is a fallacy "that Jesus is the one God and Jehovah of the O. T."
(Dake's Annotated Reference Bible, N.T. pg. 280, column 1)
"What we mean by Divine Trinity is that there are three separate and distinct persons in the Godhead, each one having His own personal spirit body, personal soul, and personal spirit in the same sense each human being, angel, or any other being has his own body, soul, and spirit." (Dake's Annotated Reference Bible, N.T. pg. 280, column 1)
"Is God only one being made up of several persons or beings in the one being? If so, we can conclude that man is one person or being made up of many."
(Dake's Annotated Reference Bible, N.T. pg. 280, column 2)
"The Father is called God, the Son is called God, and the Holy Spirit is called God. As individual persons each can be called God and collectively they can be spoken of as one God because of their perfect unity. The word God is used either as a singular or a plural word, like sheep." (Dake's Annotated Reference Bible, N.T. pg. 280, column 2)
"Is it any wonder that the Godhead, the Trinity, and the unity of God are so mysterious when we force separate persons to become only one person, all because we do not want to recognize the true meaning of the word one as referring to unity, not to individuality in some scriptures? Men would be just as great a mystery if we forced the meaning of all men to refer to one person." (Dake's Annotated Reference Bible, N.T. pg. 281, column 3)
"Christ received all power in heaven and in earth (Matt. 28:18). Someone had to be greater than He was to give Him that power. Who was it (Jn. 14:28)?"
(Dake's Annotated Reference Bible, N.T. pg. 280, column 2)
The doctrine of the Trinity is the foundation from which Christianity is built. From Scripture we can rightly determine that : God exists as three persons; that each of those persons individually is God; that there is only one God. To deny any of the preceding statements is to embrace heresy the church has had to battle since the second century. Here again, though, Finis Dake simply redefines the meaning of words to suit his desired end. By redefining "one" to mean that the three (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) are one in 'unity', Dake can continue to sound doctrinally correct. Further, suggesting that the word "God" is a plural, "like sheep", allows Dake to cloak his tritheism (belief in three gods) in orthodox language and look himself like a "sheep" but retain his "wolf" nature. (See the creeds below for the historic view of the Trinity).
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Nature of Jesus, the Christ --
Referring to the word Christ --
"Gr. Christos, "Anointed," ...Like the name "Jesus" it has no reference to deity, but to the humanity of the Son of God, who became the Christ or the "Anointed One" 30 years after He was born of Mary. God "made" Him both Lord and Christ. The Heb. is "Messiah"." (Dake's Annotated Reference Bible, N.T. pg. 1, note a) [This notation has been removed from more recent versions of the Dake bible (sometime after 1990), but rightly reflects Finis Dake's own position on Christ].
"Sonship with Christ always refers to humanity, not to deity. As God, He had no beginning; was not begotten or He would have had a beginning as God; and was not God's Son. But as a man, He had a beginning, was begotten, and was God's Son. In these passages it is clear that there was a certain day when God was to have a Son and the Son have a Father. It was to be in the future from the time the prophets spoke, If sonship refers to deity, then this deity had a beginning on a certain day and He was not eternal. But if it refers to humanity, then all scriptures are clear and we have no man-made mystery of the so-called eternal sonship of Jesus Christ." (Dake's Annotated Reference Bible, N.T. pg. 57, note d)
"This is no longer a mystery when we understand the true "kenosis", or self-emptying of Christ. He retained His divine nature, but limited Himself to human attributes and powers during the days of His flesh" (Dake's Annotated Reference Bible, N.T. pg. 59, note d)
Under the heading "Of what did Christ empty Himself?" --
"Christ emptied Himself of:"
"Equality with God."
"His authority in heaven and in earth."
"His divine attributes and outward powers that He had with the Father from eternity."
"He was limited to the status of a man."
"He was God's agent using God's power of attorney."
"If it became necessary to anoint Jesus during His earthly life, then it proves He did not
retain His former glory and attributes which He had from all eternity when He emptied Himself to become like men in all things."
"He did not claim the attributes of God, but only the anointing of the Spirit to do His works."
"Most scriptures used in doctrine books proving that Christ had divine attributes on earth are statements true of Him since His glory has been restored and do not prove anything during His life on earth. All scriptures related to His earthly life can be explained as referring to the exercise of the gifts of the Spirit and not natural attributes."
(Dake's Annotated Reference Bible, N.T. pg. 218, columns 1, 2 & 3)
To understand that Jesus was, is, evermore shall be, and was never less than eternal God, is truth only the cultists and heathen would argue. It is the very gospel we preach unto salvation. This mystery which was revealed to us is the very thing that causes our hearts to melt like wax at its knowing. God in all that he is, took on the nature of a servant, humbled by clothing himself in the nature of a man, to live the righteous requirement of the law and offered himself a sacrifice so that through the one man, many would be saved. To make Jesus less than God, at any point in eternity, is to deny his very nature from the beginning of all things. "God" minus anything equals "not God".
The name of Jesus has been called upon as savior by Jehovah's Witness', The Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints and others. The separation that exists between those groups and the true, historic and orthodox church is in defining exactly who Jesus is. The Jehovah's Witness' deny the deity of Christ and the Trinity. The Mormons represent Jesus to be the "spirit brother" of Lucifer and redefine the Trinity in a way very similar to Dake. Finis Dake claims that Jesus did not have "equality to God" and that the Godhead is really three separate "gods". Jesus said; "Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophecy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform miracles?' Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'" (Matt. 7:22-23 NIV) and again, "If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well." (John 14:7) To not know who Jesus is in his nature and being, therefore, is to not know God.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On Jesus being "the firstborn of all creation": (Col. 1:15)
"Gr. prototokos, Trans. firstborn (v15), It is used of Jesus the firstborn of Mary and of the firstborn of Egyptians. It means the first one born in the family. It must also be understood in this literal sense in connection with Jesus being the firstborn in God's family. However, Sonship in this case refers to humanity and not to deity."
(Dake's Annotated Reference Bible, N.T. pg. 222, column 1)
It must be here noted that Finis Dake uses the same argument, and is in agreement with, the interpretation that the Jehovah's Witness' apply to the use of the word "prototokos". While it may be translated "firstborn", the word prototokos carries with it the understanding of pre-eminence in position. Thus, Jesus was "pre-eminent" over all creation, a fact that scripture soundly affirms. If we look to the septuagint (Greek) translation of the old testament, we find that "prototokos" was used in similar fashion to describe the relationship between Ephraim and Manasseh. In Gen. 41:51-52 we read the following:
"Joseph named his firstborn Manasseh...The second son he named Ephraim." (NIV)
It is clear from scripture that Manasseh is indeed the first one born in the family. However, in Jeremiah 31:9, the Lord, himself, says, "Ephraim is my firstborn son." (NIV)
The word translated "firstborn" in Jeremiah is the very same "prototokos". Since we know that Manasseh was born first, either God has made a mistake, or His intention was to indicate the "pre-eminence of position" that Ephraim had over Manesseh. Since God makes no mistakes, we can conclude the latter. This is also the correct understanding of "firstborn" as it is used in Col. 1:15 in reference to Jesus.
The Historic Position of the Christian Church
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In order to understand the doctrinal stance held by the church in these areas, both now and during the preceding two centuries, I have chosen, rather than to restate the position from a personal denominational bias of some sort, to provide evidence directly from the documents widely held to contain the position of the church throughout history. While not infallible in their content, these doctrinal statements were crafted and written with great care to ensure proper understanding of the tenants of Christianity. They are here used to compare what the greater church has always believed concerning God and Christ, against what is presented within the Dake commentary.
It is my sincere hope that you will take the time to read carefully the following texts. While the language is at times archaic, these documents are beautifully crafted and exemplify the care and reverence with which the authors dealt with the subject matter. In each is an attempt to codify the truths of Scripture within the framework of the gospel as announced to us through Christ Jesus, our Lord. Correct understanding of our faith, as expressed within these creeds, was of paramount concern to the writers. They understood that nothing short of man's eternal destiny rests in the balance.
These documents will include excerpts from the following:
(A new window will open for each of the following links)
The Nicene Creed (A.D. 325-381) [Complete Text]
The Chalcedonian Creed (A.D. 451) [Complete Text]
Articles of Religion (Thirty-Nine Articles, 1571: Church of England) [Excerpts]
The Westminster Confession of Faith (1643-1646) [Excerpts]
The New Hampshire Baptist Confession (1833) [Excerpts]
Baptist Faith and Message (Southern Baptist Convention, 1925, revised 1963) [Excerpts]
Together, these documents, spanning almost 2000 years of church history, will enable us to see without doubt that Finis Dake is in opposition to the truths of Scripture as they have always been understood in the areas outlined above.
Following the above documents you will find a summary of thought concerning Finis J. Dake and suggested response to his writings.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Summary
It is important to note that in each of the above sited statements of faith, the question of the Trinity and the nature of God and of his Son, Jesus, are the primary issues dealt with. It is the centrality of importance within those doctrines which caused it to be thus so. How can one come to God in repentance, seeking forgiveness through Jesus, if we do not know who God is, or who Jesus is? It was no small matter to the church for 2000 years, and cannot be abandoned now.
According to Dake, the God of the Bible is a being of definite size and shape, with a body not unlike ourselves, except it is of "spirit substance"(?), while living on a "material planet" called heaven. This "God" can only be in one place at a time and he moves from place to place like other persons. The God of the Dake bible is said to be omniscient and, yet, still needs to gather information from the beings he deals with since he chooses not to know all things. Along with this "God" are two other "Gods", all three united by virtue of their agreement in purpose, yet individual and separate in being. One is known as the Holy Spirit, existing with the Father from all eternity, with his own body, again like ours. The other is a "God" who has no name until he left "planet heaven" to be born on planet earth, and was then known as Jesus, the Son. This Jesus, according to Dake, was not the messiah at his birth, but he became such at 30 years of age when he was then baptized and received "the anointing". During his time on earth, Dake's Jesus was not equal to God the Father and, so, was something less than God. This Jesus had not the attributes of God the Father, but was allowed to perform miracles by using a "power of attorney" from the Father. Then Dake's Jesus, who was less than (not equal to) God, eventually sacrificed himself on a cross for our sins, after which time he became fully "God" again and joined the other two "Gods" back on "planet heaven".
Clearly, this is not the God of the bible or of the gospel presented in Scripture and understood throughout the ages of church history. Finis J. Dake has incorporated some of the oldest heresies the church has had to battle, namely: tritheism, adoptionism, and subordinationism through nineteenth century kenotic theology. Seemingly not content with the measure of heresy already obtained, Finis Dake goes on to deny the omnipresence and omniscience of God. Indeed, Finis J. Dake has created "other gods" to follow and "another gospel" to preach, to which we respond with Paul :
"I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel -- which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned! As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned!"
(Galatians 1:6-9)
and again :
"See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ.
For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority." (Colossians 2:8-10)
and again :
"As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, stay there in Ephesus so that you may command certain men not to teach false doctrines any longer nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies. These promote controversies rather than God's work -- which is by faith. The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. Some have wandered away from these and turned to meaningless talk. They want to be teachers of the law, but they do not know what they are talking about or what they so confidently affirm." (1 Timothy 1:3-7)
In an effort to understand just how those at Dake Publishing would explain the statements within their commentary, correspondencea began with them on Jan. 2, 2001. In the first letter written, they were asked if they would agree with a statement of faith which included the following: "We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, andHoly Spirit."A response was received on that same date from Derrick Germaine, General Manager of Dake Publishing and grandson of Finis Dake, Sr. In that letter Mr. Germaine states; "We agree completely with your email and statement of faith. We embrace the same." However, when pressed to comment on the accuracy of quotes from the Dake reference (Specifically references 1, 2, 6, and 7 under the heading The Trinity found above on this page.) Mr. Germaine did not respond. Instead, a letter was received from a South Carolina pastor and "theological consultant" for Dake Publishing, named Leon Bible. As to the statement, "It is a fallacy that there is only one person or one being called God", Mr. Bible comments, "We agree that this is a fallacy as stated". The letter continues by cloaking aberrant teaching in orthodox language and makes many references to the "three ness" of God. In his summation, Mr. Bible compares critics of the Dake notes to those who criticized Augustine, Luther, Calvin, Wesley and Moody and suggests that "true scholars walk away from the Dake Bible with an awe for the work presented." In this Leon Bible is partially correct; true scholars, indeed, walk away from the Dake Bible.
While I have not found a true scholar who agrees with the writings of Finis Dake, it is not difficult at all to find those who oppose it. Reformed theologian Michael Horton says Dake's view on the Trinity is similar to Mormon theology and is heretical. In his book, The Agony of Deceit, he states, "The Faith teachers borrowing from Dake's Annotated Study Bible deny [the Trinity]". Likewise, Hank Hanegraaf of the Christian Research Institute says that, "Dake's doctrine denies the historic Christian church doctrine that God, in Trinity, is one in essence". George Wood, general secretary of the Assemblies of God, says that "His [Dake's] opinions are in direct conflict with our statement of fundamental truth."
Complicating the matter of exposing Dake's teachings is the fact that Finis Dake's material is supported by organizations like the Church of God (Cleveland, TN), which sells the Dake's Annotated Reference Bible through their printing organization, Pathway Press. When I inquired as to why Pathway Press carries the Dake bible I was told that "they sell quite a few and have had very few complaints" b. How sad that the sales profit to be made is valued above the doctrine contained within the pages of the book sold. The declaration of faith of the Church of God is trinitarian and, for the most part, very orthodox. How they have allowed this apparent contradiction is unknown. I spoke with Dr. Paul Walker at the Church of God Theological Seminary concerning this very issue. When I inquired as to whether he was familiar with the works of Finis Dake, he explained that he not only knew Dake's material but had been a speaker at Mr. Dake's funeral. I proceeded to ask why the Church of God endorsed Dake's anti-Trinitarian position. Dr. Walker tried to insist that my "problem" was really with the Dake family (the publisher), not the Church of God. When pressed for a reason for the C.O.G. endorsement however, Dr. Walker said, "I haven't heard anyone say things like this about Dake, and I've been around for 68 years." Dr. Walker is not alone in his lack of concern. When speaking with Larry Gratreak, a pastor and divisional supervisor for the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel, he informed me that several people in his own congregation use the Dake bible. He was unaware of Dake's position on the Trinity and, after being shown what Dake had to say on the matter, simply looked at me and said, "So, what's your point?" I asked whether he felt that those members in his congregation using the Dake bible should at least be made aware and warned of its content. His reply was, "No, I'm not really worried about that."
It really should be an easier matter to gain support against these heresies in the defense of orthodox Christian doctrine. Few, however, know quite what to do when faced with the challenge. Included in some of the historic statements of the Christian faith are concerns relating to the purity of the church in matters of doctrine. It has always been considered not only acceptable, but mandatory, that the church maintain, to the highest degree possible, doctrinal purity. What we believe (about God, about Jesus, etc.) causes us to be either "included" within the church, or "excluded" from it. Correction is not to be withheld because, in so doing, we risk loosing the offending brother to the enemy, or contaminating the church by their continued presence. But should we proactively warn our brothers and sisters about the issues, or simply teach the truth passively and hope they hear our message? Many of the pastors I have spoken with tend toward the latter. Some have suggested that since it is unlikely that any of us have a "perfectly pure doctrine", that holding to some of the teachings found in Dake would not jeopardize an individual's salvation. But, is the question "How far from the truth can I get and still be included within the group called the church?", or should we "Run the race with endurance knowing that only the victor gets the crown?". However we proceed, I'm sure that God will hold each of us accountable to the course we choose.
It should be clear in the above citations that Finis J. Dake departs from the traditional and historic understanding of the Christian faith in several important areas. I have endeavored to include enough material from the Dake'sAnnotated Reference Bible to insure that his position and intention is truthfully represented in each of the doctrinal areas outlined. The question then becomes, how many times must an individual reject the oneness of the Godhead in the Trinity or the equality of Jesus to the Father before we recognize that indeed they are in error?
Once the error is recognized, as in this case, we have an obligation as Christians to speak out against it. This, indeed, is the serious task of the Church. Too many times we have, in the name of not "offending our brother", kept quiet with our concerns. We have somehow begun to value cooperation without correction, restoration without rebuke. But how can there be cooperation and restoration unless correction and rebuke are allowed to be administered in love. It is not a lack of love for our brothers in the church that causes us to take this position of opposition. Just the contrary, it is our desire that "none should perish" that proves our love. Peter was corrected and rebuked publicly for error that would have led others astray if left unchecked. This example in Scripture is no accident. It was not Paul's "lack of love" or "spirit of intolerance" that prompted him to speak. He was a man who was ready at all times to defend the Gospel of Christ. We are to treat error in the same fashion. To paraphrase James just a bit, show me your love without your works, and I will show you mine by my works. The admonition from Scripture is clear on our position when correcting doctrinal error. It was Paul who wrote to Timothy with regard to this very subject :
"The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron....If you point these things out to the brothers, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, brought up in the truths of the faith and of the good teaching that you have followed." (1 Timothy 4:1-2, 6)
There are those who have indicated that while some of Dake's work is aberrational, they reference it for some greater understanding of prophecy or subjects less controversial than those dealt with here. However, if Finis Dake does not know the true and living God and our Savior, Jesus, as they are revealed in Scripture, can his interpretation of any passage or verse be of value? Two issues need to be discussed:
1) What we believe about God affects and changes the way we interpret Scripture.
Our conclusions with regard to the teachings of various passages of the Bible will be molded by what we personally believe to be true.
From Dake we could conclude that since Jesus was not equal to God the Father, and since he was simply using God's "power of attorney", that as born-again, spirit filled believers, we are as much an incarnation as was Jesus. This is exactly what teachers such as Kenneth Copeland and Kenneth Hagin teach, and it seems likely that they derived such a concept from the doctrine of Finis Dake.
2) If Finis Dake is correct in his understanding of the nature of God and Christ, then the church, as a whole, has been wrong for 2000 years. This would sound more a claim from Joseph Smith rather than any Christian source.
Joseph Smith is reported to have asked God which church he should join. According to Latter Day Saints, he was told to join none of them for they had all become filled with error. How absurd it must sound to God that we believe him strong enough to create and sustain all things, perform miracles beyond description, provide salvation to his people, and not be able to guard and protect his own Word revealedto us in Scripture.
There was a time when the people, confronted with a choice, were asked, "Choose this day which God you will serve". We must again, now, and as many times as necessary, make that same choice. Shall we serve the three "gods" of Finis Dake who are limited in their attributes, or the unlimited, righteous God of the bible who offers us salvation in his Son, Jesus? We are compelled to reply, "As for me and my house, we shall serve the Lord."
It is my sincere hope and prayer that the Dake family, who continues to own and publish the works of the late Finis J. Dake, would take the time to correct the doctrinal errors found throughout the Dake'sAnnotated Reference Bible. As for the rest of his works, it is my sincere hope that they would discontinue there publication and, in so doing, perhaps save many from the confusion and error in understanding that was never their intended purpose.
Until that day, I would urge all denominations at their highest levels, to condemn the writings of Finis J. Dake as undoctrinal, unorthodox, and dangerous heresy. Furthermore, that they would make their membership aware of that position by issuing warnings, in writing, to each of their pastors, overseers, elders, councils, supervisors, and general membership stating in clear language the heretical nature of those same writings.
I leave you with Paul's final instruction to Timothy, which is really for us as well :
"Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to your care. Turn away from godless chatter and the opposing ideas of what is falsely called knowledge, which some have professed and in so doing have wandered from the faith.
Grace be with you." (1 Timothy 6:20-21)
Parallels Between Charismatic and New Age Movements
Part One
By Gary F. Zeolla
In writing this two-part article, I will be drawing on my own personal experience in the charismatic movement. I attended an independent, charismatic church for four years. I left after much soul searching, Bible study, and research. Some of my reasons for leaving will be elaborated on in this article. I prefer to leave the full name and address out, because I still have relatives and friends who attend the church. I will simply refer to it as Dayspring.
I will also be drawing on research I have done one the New Age Movement, both through the reading of books and from talking to those involved in the movement.
Movements, Not Organizations
The teachings of charismatic churches can vary from one to another. This is because it is a movement, not an organization. Also, sometimes it is difficult to ascertain what a particular church teaches since most don't have published confessions of faith. Thus, you can’t be sure what is taught and believed till you're deep into the movement. Fortunately, however, Dayspring does have a confession of faith printed. I will be referring to it throughout this article.
This lack of uniformity is the first point of comparison between the movements. The beliefs of New Agers vary from group to group and person to person. Thus, it is also difficult to know what you're getting into from the onset in this movement.
Given this lack of uniformity, what is said below does not necessarily apply to all charismatic churches or persons who would describe themselves as charismatics or to all New Age groups or all New Agers. For that matter, since it has been several years since I left Dayspring it may have changed somewhat since then. And my comments do not apply to everyone who attended that particular church.
That said, the below does relate what I experienced while in the church. And I have visited many other charismatic churches, both in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and the Denver, Colorado areas. And I found that my experiences at Dayspring were not that unique.
Also, I have tried to quote from more influential New Age writers to try to relate as best as possible what is generally seen in the New Age Movement.
Experience, Not Truth
Even if these churches and groups had published statements of faith, few of those entering would probably read them anyway. People entering these movements are generally concerned with having an experience, not finding the truth. As New Ager Marylin Ferguson says, "We begin to trust intuition, whole brain knowing ... As we become attuned to the inner signals, they seem stronger" (Ferguson, p. 107).
This reference to inner signals reminds me of a phrase I heard continually at Dayspring, "God showed me...." People would talk like they had a hotline to God. They would consider an inner "feeling" to always be God’s voice and then act according to what this "voice" said. In other words, their actions are determined by feelings, not intellect.
Both movements also put heavy emphasis on dreams. New Ager Rick Fields writes, "Since ancient times, dreams have been honored as a source of wisdom and guidance in life" (Fields, p. 25).
This is not to say God can't speak to someone in a dream or the "still, small voice" (1Kings 9:12; KJV). However, dreams or inner feelings should not be used to the exclusion of rationally weighing the options in a decision and checking Scripture.
It is because oft his emphasis on feelings, rather than intellect, that it can sometimes be difficult to talk rationally to people involved in these movements about their beliefs.
Dayspring's confession reads, "...we have no desire to debate doctrine." (p. 5). This attitude is common in both movements. Since they just "know" they're right, why discuss it? Besides this, " . . many have very little content to their faith, everything is experience -- emotion (or emotionalism). is the base" (Schaeffer, p. 391).
Backgrounds of Adherents
The reason for this non-intellectual attitude relates to how people get involved in these movements in the first place. Many have come out of a "dead" Christian background. At Dayspring, about half of the members were ex-Catholics. The rest were mostly ex-Protestants. The church itself used to be Baptist.
Compare this composition with Ferguson's statistics for the backgrounds of the New Agers she surveyed: 55% Protestant, 20% Jewish, 18% Catholic (p. 367).
In other words, many in these movements came out of Christian backgrounds that they did not find emotionally fulfilling. So they are looking for an experience or as Ferguson calls it, "a direct connection with the spiritual" (p. 363-4). When they find one, they will generally jump in without questioning whether it is valid or not.
The Apostle John wrote, "Do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are of God" (1John 4:1). But the new charismatic or New Ager never seem to stop and question what the source of their new experience is: whether it is from God, from Satan, if it is a purely psychological experience with no supernatural source, or even an out-right deception.
Even A New Age commentator acknowledges this Problem, "I think one of the greatest faults in the spiritual (New Age). movements is that people are not willing to look at what is going on and say maybe it's wrong" (N. D. Smith as quoted in Ankerberg, inside front cover).
Not Testing Experiences
The kinds of experiences I am referring to are varied. For the charismatic, they can include speaking in tongues, "the baptism in the Spirit," healing, and being slain in the Spirit. For the New Ager it is usually some form of an altered state of conscience. These include drugs, TM, hypnosis, biofeedback, and also healing.
Are these two groups of experiences related? Ferguson states that a mystical experience can radically alter one's values and perception (p. 363). Any of the listed charismatic experiences can do the same. Philosopher William James states, "Mystical states seem to those who experience them to be new states of knowledge. They are insights into depths of truth unplumbed by the discursive intellect." (Ferguson, p. 371)
If this new information is God given, then it's valid. But is it? If it's of God, there should be a consistency in the revelations and they should cohere to Scripture. Also, there should be a provable nature to it, some way to validate its claims (1Thes. 5:21f).
Occult researcher Kurt Koch records several cases of his having to cast out demons who first possessed a person when he/she spoke in tongues (pp. 206-210).
Ex-charismatic C.S. Butler records an incident of a man who wanted to receive the "baptism" -
I let my mind become quite blank and began yielding myself to the external power outside myself that seemed to be pleading for full control of me. At once a feeling of paralysis began to numb my feet. It soon affected my legs...! became alarmed.
"This thing is coming upon me from beneath...." Without a moment's hesitation, I cried out, "May the blood of Christ protect me from this thing!" At once it vanished and I was normal again (p.99).
Unfortunately, most are not this discerning. The man standing beside him "received" the baptism. Compare this story with one from Koch.
He tells of how a hypnotist finally gave up when a group of Christians were praying. The hypnotist announced to the audience, "There are opposing forces present. We will stop the demonstration" (p. 98).
So clearly, one source of these experiences can be demonic. There can also be psychological forces and deception present. If a truly supernatural event has occurred, there should be no natural explanations. However, in a lot of cases there are.
Neil Babcox, another ex-charismatic, reports how he learned to speak in tongues and gained fluency through practice (pp. 64-65). I've witnessed this scenario. A seeker is told to repeat sounds the leader makes. When he does, he's told he's speaking in tongues! This is not the way things happened in the book of Acts.
Also, tongue speaking can be a normal religious phenomenon. It has been heard among Muslims, Mormons, spiritualist mediums and various other groups (Flynn, p. 184). Some Christians would say this indicates demonic activity. Personally, I feel in many cases it is simply a psychological event with no supernatural origins. Butler arrives at the same conclusion (p. 86).
Similarly, psychical/ psychological explanations can be applied to mystical experiences undergone when using drugs. These psychedelic phenomenon don't need Satan to explain them. Chemical changes in the brain are an adequate explanation.
What's interesting is, "there is no element of the LSD experience that does not have a non-drug counterpart" (Ferguson, p.375). Ferguson then refers to such New Age practices as bio-feedback, hypnosis, and TM. Could it be that these New Age practices (and maybe even some charismatic practices). somehow alter the chemical balance in the brain? If so, the resulting experiences gained from engaging in them would be natural, not supernatural experiences.
However, I do want to add here, God is sovereign. He could choose to impart a spiritual gift at His discretion (1Cor 12:18). The "fruits" of the experience need to be evaluated to determine its source. This includes both subsequent doctrinal and lifestyle changes.
Physical Healing
Belief in the miraculous healing of physical ailments is something both groups have in common. Here again, in my opinion, very often nothing supernatural is occurring.
Many claimed healings are due to the placebo effect. Most of the healings I witnessed were of pain: headaches, backaches, arthritis, etc The whipped up emotions at a healing session could easily account for the reported relief of pain.
The same is true in New Age circles. Cult researcher John Ankerberg relates, "The reports of genuine cures are not so much related to the individual treatments used; rather many times it depends on the psychological factors involved" (Ankerberg, p. 24). One proof of this is that I frequently saw the same person going forward one week who had been "healed" the previous week.
The more miraculous healing claims are usually not verifiable. Butler reports how a physician investigated 23 cases of people who were "healed" at a Kathryn Kuhlman crusade. None of the healings proved genuine (Butler, p. 78).
In four years of attending Dayspring I heard claims from healers of everything from giving sight to the blind to raising the dead. However, after viewing probably hundreds of healing sessions, I never saw anything of this sort occur. Why then do so many claim to have witnessed such events? One example will suffice.
An evangelist from "Jews for Jesus" was visiting my former church. When he gave an alter call for healing, a man with a walker slowly shuffled forward. Hands were laid on him and people started shouting, "You're healed! You're healed! Praise the Lord!" The man shuffled back to his seat using his walker.
A woman came forward with a limp. The scene was repeated with shouts praising God for her healing. She limped away. I'm serious! I felt like I was the only one who could see that the emperor had no clothes.
Again, to qualify, none of the above should be taken to mean that God can't heal. Again, He is sovereign and will do as He wills. But God doesn't need anyone to lie for Him!
The whole point of this discussion is, people are entering these movements and changing their entire world views, especially of the supernatural, because of these experiences. But if they are explainable via natural means or worse, are demonic, these people are being deceived. "The demonic can give wonderful visions and experiences in order to fool people into believing a false religious view of the world" (Ankerberg, p. 6; see 2Cor 11:14).
We need to judge our experiences by the Bible and base our beliefs on the revealed truths of Scripture, not on an experience. As Gordon Lewis, Philosophy of Religion professor at Denver Seminary, writes, "The Christian's supreme source of information about life after death and fullness of life at the present is the Bible" (quoted in Montgomery, p. 356).
Use of the Bible
The mention of the Bible above brings us to the next comparison: the two movements use of the Bible. Both groups try to show that their beliefs are consistent with Scripture. And both groups use faulty methods in their Biblical interpretations. I will use one example from each group to demonstrate this.
I continued to receive Dayspring's newsletter even after I left the ,church. In Dayspring's confession, it reads, "It is our God-given commission to proclaim the Gospel of Christ, not to defend it" (p. 5). The newsletter tried to back up this stance with Romans 8:24, "hope that is seen is not hope." The newsletter stated that this meant we shouldn't try to intellectually convince someone that the Gospel is true. We should simply tell them to believe.
There are two big problems with this. First of all, the Bible teach that we should defend the Gospel (see 1Peter 3:15; Col 4:6; Phil 1:16; Jude 3). Secondly, Romans 8:24 has nothing to do with evangelism. "Hope" in this passage refers to the resurrection. We will no longer be hoping to be resurrected after we have been resurrected. Thus, a verse has been taken out of context to make the Bible teach something that is contradicted by the rest of the Scriptures.
New Agers do the same with Psalm 82:16, "I said, 'You are gods.'" They try to use this verse to back up their pantheistic belief that we are all a part of God. Again, we have the same two problems. First, the next verse reads, "But you shall die like men" (Ps. 82:7). Thus, God is not teaching the inner divinity of all men. Secondly, the Bible from Genesis 1 :1 on does not teach pantheism and is clear on the fact there is only one God (see Isa 43:10; 44:8 other verses too numerous to site).
So both groups use faulty exegesis to try to support unbiblical beliefs.
Parallels Between Charismatic and New Age Movements
Part Two
By Gary F. Zeolla
This discussion is continued from Parallels Between Charismatic and New Age Movements Part One.
Baptism with the Spirit
One topic we need to touch on here is the charismatic doctrine of the baptism with the Spirit. At Dayspring, this was taught to be, "a subsequent experience to salvation." And, "The initial evidence of this experience is speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gives ability" (Dayspring, p. 1).
Biblically, there are several problems here. The Bible teaches that a person receives the Spirit the moment he is converted. Moreover, if someone has not received the Spirit, he is not a Christian (see Rom. 8:9; Eph. 1:13 and John 3:6). Charismatics try to circumvent these points by making a distinction between having, receiving, being filled and being baptized with the Spirit. But the Bible uses the terms interchangeably (Acts 2;4; 10:47; 11:16).
Second, nowhere does Scripture teach that tongues is the evidence of being baptized with the Spirit. In fact, Paul makes it clear that not all believers speak in tongues (1Cor 12:30). Also, if as mentioned previously, people of various non-Christian faiths speak in tongues, how can it be a sign of Holy Spirit baptism?
This topic is important. If a believer who doesn't speak in tongues accepts this teaching, he's going to start seeking an experience that has no Scriptural basis. This can lead to demonic influence or psychological delusion. Remember the story I quoted from Butler about what happened to the man who was seeking the "baptism"?
The point is, a person should be seeking God, not an experience. In following the Lord, spiritual experiences may be encountered, but this shouldn't be the focus. Also, the experience(s) need to be judged by Scripture to test their reality.
Positive Thinking/ Confession
Another verse I heard continually taken out of context at Dayspring was Proverbs 23:7, "For as he thinks in his heart, so is he."
This verse leads to the next parallel between the two movements: positive thinking/ confession. "Healing comes as a direct result of perceiving ourselves as whole." This statement could easily have been made by someone at my old church in reference to Proverbs 23:7. The problem is, However, that this quote comes from The Aquarian Conspiracy by New Ager Marylin Ferguson (p. 150).
Also, in context, this verse from Proverbs is not teaching the power of the mind. Proverbs 23:6-8 is a warning to not be deceived by a greedy man who is appearing to be generous. He is only trying to win you over so he can use you.
In any case, positive confession was one of the biggest problems I had with Dayspring. It was usually used in reference to healing. If someone was sick, he was told to tell people he was well. This was because there was supposedly power in the words that would cause God to respond.
However, as Douglas Miller states, "God will not be controlled. Any attempt to direct or manipulate God implies rebellious idolatry" (cited by Gordon Lewis in Montgomery, p. 355). This practice is also lying, which is something God hates (see Prov. 6:17).
This idea stems from a wrong concept of God. As Butler asks, "Is the god whom we can manipulate in this way the God of the Bible? (Butler, p. 113). I say no.
At the healing session I mentioned earlier, the evangelist prayed after he called the people forward, "Lord, I demand that you heal these people."
It was the events of this night that were the last straw in causing me to leave the church. I couldn't believe what I was seeing and hearing. If God must jump when we speak, then we must be at least equal to Him. A charismatic would never say this, but it's the logical conclusion from these practices.
This attitude comes dangerously close to the New Age concept of God. In the mini-series, Out on a Limb, Shirley MacLaine stood on the beach of the Pacific Ocean chanting "I am God, I am God, I am God" (Ankerberg, p. 10). Butler implores, "Let us never lose a sense of awe as we come before a holy God" (p. 67). This warning needs to be heeded by adherents to both movements.
Attitude Toward Sin
Another indication of their faulty viewpoint of God in both movements is their attitude toward sin. Repentance is a part of Dayspring's statement of faith in reference to salvation. (p. 3). However, in practice, this was rarely preached, or when it was it was done in a light-hearted manner. The emphasis in evangelism was always the experience one could have by believing in Christ.
This emphasis was usually tied in with what Jesus could do for you: be healed, be made happy, etc. Which relates back to the positive thinking/confession beliefs. Problem is, God never promised that by becoming a Christian a person would have a carefree, healthy, happy life. In fact, the apostle's experiences were the exact opposite (see 1Cor 4:8-14).
This parallels the New Age "gospel." Sin is looked on as being an ignorance of one's divinity. (Ankerberg, p. 17). The reason to follow "the path" is usually given in terms of all the good things it will bring.
I was very disturbed when I read William James' book, The Varieties of Religious Experiences. It was disturbing that James, an atheist, could see that this health and wealth "gospel" was not what Christianity had traditionally taught.
In the chapter, "The Religion of Healthy Mindedness", James shows how the concept had its roots in the mind-cure cults of the turn of the century. On page 94, he states, "Although the disciples of the mind-cure often use Christian terminology, one sees from such quotations how widely their notion of the fall of man diverges from that of ordinary Christianity."
Throughout, as quotes from the leaders of the movement show, pantheistic terms appear: "recognize your own divinity", "Deific Breath" (p. 95), "your divine self" (p. 96), "There is nothing but God." (p. 97), "the Divinity of man's true inner self" (p. 113). These are placed beside positive thinking/confession phrases: "as a man thinketh so is he" (p. 97), [sound familiar?] "Thoughts are things"(p.99), "God is well and so are you" (p. 100).
The point is, the concept originated not in Christian circles but in the occult. Christians simply added Christian terms and started teaching it in the church. "When it spoke of the 'Christ-life' within, it meant precisely what the mind-cures meant by the spiritual nature, although they might have called it the 'Divine Energy' or the 'Infinite Life’" (Frank, p. 145).
The above is not to say that anything without Christian roots is necessarily wrong. However, in this case, it is difficult to divorce the practice from the faulty world-view underlying it.
Faulty Church History
Both movements are severely lacking a knowledge of church history is. Both ascribe to some kind of restoration belief. New Agers teach, "The early church taught reincarnation … until the sixth century when it was suppressed at a church council. (Grudel, p. 8).
An in-depth refutation of this claim would require an article in itself. Suffice it to say here, that even a cursory reading of the writings of the Church Fathers would show that they believe in resurrection, not reincarnation (see The Nature of Resurrection).
Similarly, charismatics believe the gifts were suppressed by the early Church. They further claim the gifts did not re-appear till the Azuzu Street "Revivals" of the early 1900’s.
However, there was no suppression of the gifts. They just gradually lost importance after apostolic times. Also, there have been isolated groups throughout Church history that have manifested the charismata. However, from the Montanists of the second century to the Mormons of the nineteenth century, many have been heretical or, at least, at the "fringe" of the Christian faith (Butler, pp. 23-68).
The purpose of the sign gifts was to authenticate the message of the apostles (Heb. 2:4; 2Cor 12:12). As such, it is not surprising they lost importance when the apostles died. Whether the gifts are for today is not the issue, the real problem is the excessive importance placed on them by charismatics.
The above points caused me to start questioning the validity of the charismata in my former church. These facts were also instrumental in leading C.S. Butler and Neil Babcox to re-examine their beliefs. Their stories are recorded in their books listed in the bibliography.
Eschatology
Both movements are very interested in eschatology (end-times prophecy). As the name implies, the New Agers think they are going to usher in a "New Age" for society. Charismatics and all Christians are also looking for a new age. However, our new age will be brought about by the Second Coming of Christ. It will not come about by attaining to "Omega" -- the unification of conscience and culture, as Douglas Groothius describes the New Age belief (Groothius, p. 118).
New Age goals are:
1. A one-world government.
2. A one-world economic system.
3. A one-world culture including a one-world religion.
4. A god-like world ruler who will help to implement these changes (Ankerberg, p. 25)
This all sounds dangerously close to what some Christians believe is described in Revelation 13.
Now where do the charismatics fit into this scenario? First of all, charismatic groups throughout the ages have attempted to predict the exact time of the parousia. This practice occurs despite Jesus' clear statements not to do so (Matt. 24:37; Acts 1:7).
This kind of attempted prediction is what exposed the Montanist prophets to be false. Their prediction of the Second coming did not come to pass (D. J. Wright, in Elwell, p. 732). When prophecies like these fail it can lead to great disappointment (See Is the End Near? - Part One).
Add these practices to the charismatics’ emphasis on miracles and it could lead disappointed church members right into the anti-Christ’s arms. The Bible warns the anti-Christ is coming with, "counterfeit miracles, sign and wonders." (2Thes 2:9). I began to feel that charismatics could be the first ones deceived.
Transcending Traditional Belief Boundaries
Both movements are already transcending traditional belief boundaries. As Schaeffer states, "Instead of accepting a person on the basis of what he believes which has always been the Christian way, it's 'do you have these external manifestations?'" (Schaeffer, p. 391)
This statement could apply to New Agers as well. Schaeffer goes on to say, "An example of the down-playing of content is that some are now lamenting the Reformation" (p. 391).
Butler reiterates the same idea, "There are charismatics who have gone so far as to say that they believe that the reformation was a dreadful mistake" (p. 103). This attitude is because, "The charismatic renewal has now become widely established in the Roman Catholic Church" (Butler. p. 105).
The pope would love to see all the "separated brethren" back under his authority. Pope John XIII stated, "We cherish the hope of your return..." (Knolls, p. 74).
The problem is, this unity would be on the basis of experience, not a reconciliation of beliefs. It could only be realized by an extreme overemphasis on experience and anti-intellectualism of these movements.
Francis Schaeffer sums up the problem very well:
We must, of course, be careful here, because we are not saying that there shouldn't be any experience or emotion. There is and should be. But neither experience nor emotion is the basis for our faith. The basis is that certain things are true. the whole man, including the intellect, is to act upon the fact that certain things are true. That, of course, will lead to an experience (Schaeffer; p. 391).
Evangelical Response
What should be the evangelical response to these movements? This question is especially important since many in these movements have some sort of traditional Christian background. As Ankerberg states, "The church needs to have a higher degree of commitment to Christ as Lord in every area of life, to studying and living the Bible's teachings, and to learning apologetics" (p. 22). We need to give a stronger emphasis to teaching theology, church history, and apologetics in our churches.
On the other hand, we should recognize the experiential side to Christianity. Nothing is worse than a dead intellectualism. We need to acknowledge the importance of the Holy Spirit's work in our prayers, worship and evangelism.
However, learning or offering an experience must never become the focus of our activities. The focus needs to stay on God and people's need for a Savior (Rom 3:23).
Lastly, both of these movements grow out of a faulty viewpoint of God. Shirley MacLaine could never shout "I am God" and the charismatic would never try to manipulate God via positive confession if they truly understood the holiness and majesty of God.
R. C. Sproul, in his book The Holiness of God, states, "I was a Unitarian of sorts, a Unitarian of the second person of the trinity. I knew who Jesus was, but the Father was shrouded in mystery." (p 14).
There is too much of the "You've got a friend in Jesus" mentality going around. We must never forget that God, "...is the blessed, and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords; who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light; whom no man has seen or can see, to whom be honor and everlasting power. Amen" (1Tim 6:15-16).
Welcome jack-of-demons howell, please keep reading here so you will come under the conviction of the Holy Spirit upon hearing the TRUTH as opposed to the charismaniac lies of the devil that have you in their grasp and REPENT!
You, as a devotee of the heretic and false teacher Finis J. Dake have been further deceived by the demon spirits you allowed place in your life when you were a wiccan witch, blinded by the false sense of "power" those demons have convinced you of, you are in the same category of false prophet as Benny Hinn, Kenneth Copeland, Rodney Howard Browne, Kenneth Hagin, Joyce Meyer, Crefalo Dollar and the rest of the Word of Faith false prophets.
Yes, we know the litany of false prophesies and teachings that have come from the mouth of people like Benny Hinn, Rodney Howard Browne, Kenneth Copeland and others & we have been warned how serious their sin is e.g. that prophet shall die & thou shalt not be afraid of him. When we hear Benny Hinn bringing a curse against those true men of God and their families and children who oppose his error and nefarious ways, we are told quite clearly not to be afraid of him, and that he is only speaking presumptuously from the futility of his own heart.
You speak presumpuously from your own wicked heart, jack-of-demons howell, and are assisted by a "hireling" named, WOG, who also is under great delusion, and who willingly allows wolves into the sheepsgate to play among the sheep.
Keep reading here jack-of-demons howell, so that you will come under the conviction of the Holy Spirit upon hearing the TRUTH, so that your heart will be led to REPENT of heresies of Finis J. Dake and the Word of Faith false prophets.
You being a devotee of Finis Dake, like the other false prophets of the Word of Faith cult, Benny Hinn, Kenneth Copeland, Kenneth Hagin, Rodney Howard Browne, Joyce Meyer, etc are in the very same category of wolf in sheep's clothing and are a purveyor of doctrines of demons.
Yes, we know the litany of false prophesies and teachings that have come from the mouth of people like Benny Hinn, Rodney Howard Browne, Kenneth Copeland and others & we have been warned how serious their sin is e.g. that prophet shall die & thou shalt not be afraid of him. We also know that we are not to listen to the prophet even if his prophesy does come to pass if he seeks to turn your heart away from the Lord, thy God.
You speak presumpuously from your own heart, speaking lies and damnable heresies. Keep reading here---often!
"Yes! He is! To us... and we should proclaim His name on high."
Good, if you really believe this, start with proclaiming Him to minder. Rather than listen to his Hinduistic lies, tell Him about your wonderful and precious Jesus and how He meets your every need and clings to you in love no matter what do. Tell him that his salvation is sufficient for you and that, because of it, you are completely certain that you have been saved from hell and/or the need to reincarnate.
doris can't tell something she has no idea about. doris can only witness to lies, because that is all doris knows.
Ahhh... I see the problem now. You think because I enjoy reading minder's views that I am being swayed away from Christ? That is not the case at all. I have stated here as recently as yesterday that I base all of my faith on Christ's teachings and on his divinity. Minder may not believe in the same way we do, but I find him to be more at peace with himself and in touch with his spirituality than most anyone else on this board. I'm sorry to upset you and Margaret by my defense of minder. I'd just like to see you argue your views with him without disparaging his.
Of course, the doritodip, has no problem with her new age guru, "minder" disparaging the Christian faith.
As usual, the doritodip proves yet again that she is as blind and lost as she ever was.
"Well, again, the same case can be made for OUR seemingly tired old mantra of the Bible and the life of Christ, can't it?"
You are, of course, kidding. Faith in Christ is the most exciting, most wonderful experience we can have in this life -- by far!!! He is the most wonderful, the most excellent Person we can ever meet and become acquainted with. He forgives our every sin, meets our every need, heals our every disease, loves us with an everlasting love, gives our lives meaning and purpose and direction, gives us assurance of our eternal home with Him, gives us a foretaste of it in this life, strengthens us and empowers us to live this life with confidence and to eagerly anticipate the one to come. Get to know Him better, Doris.
After all this time, Murray, you should have been able to discern that "doris" doesn't know Christ at all.
Instead of "doris" getting to know Christ better, "doris" need to be "born again of the Spirit of God" so she can know Christ at all. At this point, "doris" is as lost and blind as her new age guru, minder.
one reason charismaniacs are so screwy and heretical -- A Catholic, NOT Roman, 13:59:12 08/05/02 Mon
The “Dake’s Bible”& Confused Charismatic Theology
by Joseph Chambers
Many years ago, I became leery of the Dake’s Bible, but never really understood why. The only thing I could identify was that those who became strong in their study of Dake also became arrogant and unteachable. If Dake said it, then it really did not matter what anybody else said or what the general difference was in other Scriptures. I basically quit using the Dake’s Bible about twenty years ago and simply put it on the shelf.
Finally, I am beginning to learn why the inspiration I experienced caused me to move away from Dake’s Annotated Reference Bible. I never saw the deceptive quotes that I have recently discovered, probably because to begin with I never used it much. As I have now learned, the Dake’s Bible was really the text of the Charismatics before there was a movement called “Charismatic.” Let me give you one Scripture that is foundational to what Hagin, Copeland, Hinn, Crouch, etc. are now teaching around the world.
This quote from Dake’s Bible is the very first New Testament note in the edition that I have owned since the early seventies. The edition I am quoting from is the sixth printing, December 1971.
“Gr. Christos, ‘Anointed.’ - Used in N.T. 577 times. Like the name “Jesus” it has no reference to deity, but to the humanity of the Son of God, who became the Christ or the “Anointed One” 30 years after He was born of Mary. God “made” Him both Lord and Christ. The Heb. Is ‘Messiah’.” (Dake’s Annotated Reference Bible, Finis Jennings Dake, published by Dake Bible Sales, Inc, Lawrenceville, Georgia, New Testament, p. 1.)
No Biblically solid minister or Bible student would accept the quote above. It is rank heresy and must be totally rejected or our view of Jesus Christ as the eternal Son of God is compromised. To suggest that Jesus became the Christ or the “Anointed One” thirty years after His birth is to commit heresy. This is an ancient heresy that is called “adoptionism.” Kenneth Scott Latourette stated in his book, History of Christianity, Volume I, the following:
“Others, called the Ebionites, maintained that Jesus was merely a man, a prophet, a spokesman for God, as were the great Hebrew prophets of the past. Although some of them accepted the virgin birth of Jesus, others are said to have taught that Jesus was the son of Joseph and Mary, that at His baptism Christ descended upon him in the form of a dove, that he then proclaimed the unknown Father, but that Christ who could not suffer, departed from him at his crucifixion.” (Latourette, page 121-122, Harper Collins).
This is a dividing of the natures of Jesus Christ, rather than the established truth of the unity of His Son of God and Son of Man natures. He was both Son of God and Son of Man at every point in His incarnation. Iraneaus spoke of this in his book, Against Heresies And Knowledge Falsely So Called. He stated, “Certainly the Gnostics confess with their tongues the ONE Jesus Christ, but in their minds they divide Him.” (Iraneaus; ADVERSUS Haeresies III.16.1). His two natures cannot be divided.
John R. Stott, in a commentary on the letters of John addressed this great truth. “We need therefore to find an interpretation of the phrase which makes water and blood both historical experiences which he passed and witnesses in some sense to his divine/human person. The . . . most satisfactory interpretation, first given by Tertullion does this. It takes water as reference to Baptism of Jesus, at which he was declared the Son and commissioned and empowered for His work, and blood to His death, in which His work was finished. True, ‘water’ and ‘blood’ remain strange and surprising word symbols, and we can only guess that they were thus used in the theological controversy which had engulfed the Ephesian church. At least this meaning of the expression tallies with what Iraneaus disclosed of the heretical teaching of Cerinthus and his followers. They distinguished between ‘Jesus’ and ‘Christ’. They held that Jesus was a mere man, born of Joseph and Mary in natural wedlock, upon whom Christ descended at the baptism, and from which Christ departed at the cross. According to this theory of the false teachers, Jesus was united with the Christ at the baptism, but became separated again before the cross. It was to refute this fundamental error that John, knowing that Jesus was the Christ, before, and during the baptism and cross, described Him as ‘the one who came by water and blood’.” (Tyndale NT Commentaries, LETTERS OF FIRST JOHN, J.R.W. Stott, pp. 180-181.)
The words of the angel to Mary should settle this subject completely. The Scripture stated, “And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.” (Luke 1:35).
This is further emphasized in St. John’s question of the Lord Himself, “Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God? If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not.” (John 10:36-37).
He is, and was, eternally the Son of God, anointed of the Holy Ghost. The doctrines of Hagin, Copeland, Crouch, and Hinn, etc. are clearly associated with this heresy. Paul Crouch, in a statement to Benny Hinn on TBN, stated that Jesus received His divinity back when He ascended out of hell after being born again. (See our video, TBN – The Temple Of The Gods and Goddesses.)
As I write this article, I remember a horrible crisis that occurred about twenty years ago in the church where I now pastor. We had won a man to our church and he had made wonderful progress in the study of Scripture and his spiritual life. We elevated him to a very strong leadership position and made him a key teacher in our Sunday School. He then became involved in the Copeland doctrines and began to teach the doctrine of unbiblical prosperity. One day, he proudly began to argue to me that Jesus only became the anointed one at His baptism and was not the divine Son of God until this point. I immediately knew I had a serious problem.
When our church board met to solve the problem, we asked him to either renounce this idea or resign from his class. He refused and we dismissed him. Of course, he went up the road a short distance and started his own church. We lost a host of family members; all of which have never been stable in their Christian life since that time. I remember that the Dake’s Bible had become his primary study Bible and the arrogance that I now know was evident in Finis Dake had become evident in this individual. He has never returned to the stability and truth that he traded for the Charismatic deception.
Facts About The Late Finis Dake
My method in trying to protect the body of Christ from deception is to refrain from any personal attack on anyone, but to deal with doctrine and Biblical truth. It seems appropriate to note some matters that relate to Dake because they were certainly part of the shaping of his ministry. My concerns are documented with information on the web site owned by the Dake’s Ministry or from others, who have researched his personal life.
On the Dake web site there is an article dedicated to Finis Dake himself prior to his death, in which he stated some very remarkable things. Mr. Dake states, “I was immediately able to quote hundreds of Scriptures without memorizing them. I also noticed a quickening of my mind to know what chapters and books various verses were found in. Before conversion, I had not read one full chapter of the Bible. This new knowledge of Scripture was a gift to me, for which I give God the praise. From the time of this special anointing until now, I have never had to memorize the thousands of Scriptures I use in teaching. I just quote a verse when I need it, by the anointing of the Spirit.” (Webmasters Note: I believe that Jesus had to memorize the scriptures just like any man would.)
This is absolutely contrary to Scripture and puts Dake, at least in his mind, on the same level as the Lord Jesus Christ. Remember, the criticizers of Jesus Christ stated, “How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?” (John 7:15). This would certainly give rise to him having an exalted opinion of himself and may have been one of the reasons for his arrogance. No Bible writer, Old Testament prophet, or New Testament apostle ever claimed such incredible ability. There is no Scripture to support this kind of gift by the Holy Ghost.
Research into Dake’s background gives a picture of moral carelessness in his early ministry. Here is a lengthy quote by researcher, Les Brown.
“Finis Jennings Dake was born in 1902 and died in 1987. His son Finis, Jr. says it took Dake seven years of constant work to complete the 35,000 notes included in the 1,400-page Annotated Bible. It is a virtual systematic theology and a compilation of Dake's views and doctrines.
“Dake was ordained under the Assemblies of God in Texas. For a time he did evangelistic work in Oklahoma. He then moved to Zion, Illinois, where his fortunes declined, following a scandal involving a 16-year-old girl.
“The May 27, 1936, issue of the Chicago Daily Tribune reported that ‘An indictment, returned last February in Milwaukee, charges that on April 23, 1935, Dake took Emma Barelli, 16 years old, of Kenosha, from her home town to East St. Louis for immoral purposes.’ (pg. 1). The following day, the newspaper reported that Dake registered at hotels in Waukegan, Bloomington, and East St. Louis with the girl under the name Christian Anderson and wife. Dake, according to government investigators, said he picked the girl up as she was hitchhiking and she insisted he drive her to East St. Louis, where he was to deliver Bible lectures in nearby communities. Dake denied that any immoral action had taken place, claiming, ‘I did take her there . . .but there was no immorality involved. I wanted to get her a job.’ (Chicago Daily Tribune, May 28, 1936, pg. 17).
“When Dake came to trial in February 1937, he placed himself on the mercy of the court by entering a plea of guilty to the charge of violating the Mann Act. He was sentenced to a six-month stay in the House of Corrections in Milwaukee. Dake admitted to having ‘petting parties’ with the girl, but again denied any improper relations had occurred between him and the girl. The Waukegan News-Sun reported, ‘Had he been found guilty by a trial jury, Rev. Dake would have been subject to a maximum sentence of 10 years in a federal prison and a fine of $10,000.’ (Feb. 10, 1937). Dake called the jail sentence a ‘vacation’ and said he would use his incarceration as an opportunity to preach to the prisoners and devote time to writing a commentary on the Bible.
“The Assemblies of God severed its relationship with Dake, and he later joined the Church of God, Cleveland, Tennessee. It is not clear how his union with the Church of God ended, but Dake eventually became independent of any church.”
Dake And Mormonism
There is an abundance of confusion in Dake’s Bible and his other writings. None can be worse than the quote we started this expose’ with, but other departures from truth certainly paint a picture of confusion. His teachings on God the Father that are found in his notes on the book of St. John are extremely revealing. Read these words carefully.
“He is a person with a personal spirit body, a personal soul, and a personal spirit, like that of angels, and like that of man except His body is out of spirit substance instead of flesh and bones.
“He has a personal spirit body; shape; form; image and likeness of a man. He has bodily parts such as, back parts, heart, hands and fingers, mouth, lips and tongue, feet, eyes, ears, hair, head, face, arms, loins, and other bodily parts.
“He has bodily presence and goes from place to place in a body like all other persons.
“He has a voice; breath; and countenance. He wears clothes; eats; rests; dwells in a mansion and in a city located on a material planet called Heaven; sits on a throne; walks; rides; engages in other activities.
“He has a personal soul with feelings of grief; anger; repentance; jealousy; hate; love; pity; fellowship; pleasure and delight; and other soul passions like other beings.
“He has a personal spirit with mind; intelligence; will; power; truth; faith and hope; righteousness; faithfulness; knowledge and wisdom; reason; discernment; immutability; and many other attributes, powers, and spirit faculties.” (Dake’s Annotated Reference Bible, Finis Jennings Dake, published by Dake Bible Sales, Inc, Lawrenceville, Georgia, New Testament, pp. 96-97.)
I presume this is where Kenneth Copeland got his Mormon doctrine of God being about 6’2” tall and weighing about 220 pounds, with a hand span of nine inches. Also, Benny Hinn is reported to have applied his teaching on “Nine numbers in the Godhead” to Dake’s Bible. He later confessed that error and said he was joking with his congregation.
Such ideas about God have no relevance in the Scripture, although Dake gives multiple quotes to back up this doctrinal commentary.
Dake Limits God’s Eternal Omnipotence
Here is an unbelievable commentary that is given within the story of Abraham and his visit by the pre-incarnate Christ. He suggests that God did not know what was happening in Sodom and Gomorrah and came to find out. “Here we have another proof that God receives knowledge of true conditions and becomes acquainted with existing facts. This plainly teaches that God, as well as men and angels, is limited to one place as far as the body is concerned. The doctrine of omnipresence of God can be proved, but not His omnibody. In His body He goes from place to place like other persons. Abraham stood yet before the bodily presence of God, but not before the bodily presence of the 2 angels because they went to Sodom and were no longer bodily present.” (Dake’s Annotated Reference Bible, Finis Jennings Dake, published by Dake Bible Sales, Inc, Lawrenceville, Georgia, Old Testament, p. 15.)
It is totally unacceptable to limit God, who is unlimited. He is omnipresent, omniscient, and omnipotent. Dake’s confusion arises from identifying this Divine visitor as God the Father, instead of a pre-Incarnate appearance of the Lord Jesus Christ. Our God has certainly manifested Himself to different servants, but not His Divine essence. The writer in the New Testament stated plainly, “No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.” (John 1:18).
Dake gets around this by saying, “Our English ‘seen’ means to see with the eyes and also see with the mind. That it means here to comprehend fully or understand is clear from the fact that many men have seen God with the eyes. The verse could read, ‘No man has ever comprehended or experienced God at any time in all His fulness, save the only begotten Son…He hath declared Him.’”
(Dake’s Annotated Reference Bible, Finis Jennings Dake, published by Dake Bible Sales, Inc, Lawrenceville, Georgia, New Testament, p. 93.)
The False Concept Of “Little Gods”
Dake not only was confused about the omnipotence of God, but he also taught that man was a miniature of God. In conjunction with Dake’s commentary on the Book of Job, he wrote about the idea called anthropomorphism. Under that heading, he said some strange things. “Anthropomorphism is the ascription of human bodily parts, attributes, and passions to God, and taking the substantiating statements of Scripture to be literal, and not figurative. In support of such teaching an appropriate question is: If God did not mean all He said about Himself in over 20,000 scriptures then why did He say such things? They certainly do not add to a true understanding of Him if the passages do not mean what they say. Furthermore, why would God, in hundreds of places, refer to Himself as having bodily parts, soul passions, and spirit faculties if He does not have them? Would it be necessary for Him to tell us He has such in order to reveal that He does not have them? Would He not be more likely to say in plain language that He does not have eyes, hands, mouth, ears, and other bodily members?” (Dake’s Annotated Reference Bible, Finis Jennings Dake, published by Dake Bible Sales, Inc, Lawrenceville, Georgia, Old Testament, p. 547.)
His entire statement above seems childlike and basically ignorant of the revelation of Holy Scripture. Why would someone reduce God down to the level of men just because God speaks of Himself with words on our level? That is God’s method throughout Scripture when He uses our language to convey His eternal truth. Because God said, “I saw you,” does not mean His eyes are limited to human shape and size. The Bible said emphatically, “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” (John 4:24).
From this false concept, it is natural to move directly to the next step. If God is man-like, then man must be god-like. Under the same heading as above, Dake wrote about our god-like state. “Truly He is not only all that man, angels, and other beings are in this respect, but infinitely greater in everything; and man, in reality, is simply a miniature of God in attributes and powers.” (Dake’s Annotated Reference Bible, Finis Jennings Dake, published by Dake Bible Sales, Inc, Lawrenceville, Georgia, Old Testament, p. 587.)
This statement by Dake does not go as far as saying what is now being promoted by modern Charismatic leaders, but he does lay the foundation. His promoting of God as a man with all the human attributes, combined with the idea of us as miniature Gods, has been stretched to the present deception of men as “little gods.”
Dake Carries The Idea Of Christ Emptying Himself To A Dangerous Extreme
The Son of God did indeed empty Himself to become the Son of man. What is extremely important is that this emptying was not a forsaking of His eternal essence, but an emptying of manifesting that essence. He was never void of His divine essence, but He did limit Himself not to express them while depending wholly on His Father and the Holy Spirit. Dake either did not understand the above or he willingly rejected it. Here are some of his statements on the subject: “Christ emptied Himself of His authority in heaven and in earth, which was given back to Him after the resurrection.” “Christ emptied Himself of His divine attributes and outward powers that He had with the Father from eternity. He had no power to do miracles until He received the Holy Spirit in all fullness. He could do nothing of Himself in all His earthly life. He attributed all His works, doctrines, powers, etc. to the Father through the anointing of the Holy Spirit.” “Isaiah speaks of the Messiah being born without knowledge enough to know to refuse the evil and choose the good.” “Isaiah predicted that the Messiah would be born without the tongue of the learned, without knowing how to speak a word in season to help any soul, and that He would be wakened day by day to increase in knowledge and wisdom.” “He did not claim the attributes of God, but only the anointing of the Spirit to do His works.” (Dake’s Annotated Reference Bible, Finis Jennings Dake, published by Dake Bible Sales, Inc, Lawrenceville, Georgia, New Testament, p. 218.)
I have tapes in my library with Crouch and Copeland on a TBN broadcast stating that Jesus never claimed to be God. Those quotes sound almost like a word for word expression right out of the Dake’s Bible. These men and women, from Dake to almost every key leader of the Charismatic world, talk about Jesus out of both sides of their mouths. One moment they seem to exalt Him properly, but then they say these careless things that are utterly confusing. This gives a perfect fulfillment of Jesus’ very words in St. Matthew. Read these words of the Lord Himself. “For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.” (Matthew 24:5).
Conclusion
Finis Dake’s Bible is without question filled with questionable commentaries. It is not the reading material for young, immature Christians or undiscerning ministers. It has just enough truth to make his error seem plausible and convincing. He surely has convinced a host of modern day Pentecostals and Charismatics. No one would suggest that he is singularly responsible for the theological mess that floods these churches, but neither should he be excused for his part. Often when a figure such as Dake is dead, his teaching becomes even more powerful and accepted. Godly men and women must return to the simple Word of God and quit depending on popular figures to do their interpreting of truth. The Bible will interpret itself if you will: “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” (II Timothy 2:15).
demon jack howell as a devotee of the false teacher Finis J. Dake preaches another gospel just like Dake, and is a false gospel like the Roman Catholic false gospel which is dependant on what man does rather than trusting solely on the complete merit of the Cross of Christ.
The following quote confirms it:
Salvation according to Dake, is conditional upon man remaining faithful until the end. In response to unconditional eternal security, Dake says; "Eternal life is not an eternal possession until the end of a life of holiness, for one can make a failure before then and be lost just as Adam did in the beginning.19 1 John 2:24 Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father. 25 And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life.
That is taken from:http://www.ministryhelps.com/Catalog/Dake/Dake%20Theology.htm
Finis Dake conveniently does not interpret Scripture in the full scope of Scripture, whereas Jesus says none of His sheep can be snatched from His hand, and those who believe(trust in Him) have(present tense--meaning it is their posession already) eternal life, not might have, not maybe someday will have, not will have after they have done everything they can to secure salvation, but they HAVE eternal life through Christ Jesus's Atonement.
Finis Dake make salvation man centered instead of Christ centered. In that aspect Finis Dake is a Pelagian heretic like Charles Finney, by setting down a set of rules to be followed in order to secure salvation.
No wonder the charismaniacs are as confused and convaluted as the Roman Catholics, they had long string of false prophets and false teachers who introduced all manners of heresy into pentecostalism from the beginning of that movement. Most are being deceived and prepared to accept the Antichrist as their savior.
ACNR/Dolly/Bethany -- tamarisk, 16:53:35 08/03/02 Sat
It would be interesting to find "Rev. Car-Jack, The Uplifting's" analysis in the taking, by the Fed, of the Indianapolis Baptist Temple. According to the "Rev's" analysis of 501 c 3, tax exempt churches, according to the IRS tax code, he prolly jumped with glee over seeing my friend, Dr. Greg Dixon, being wheeled out from the property that day.
Jackals, who feigns to have knowledge of the issue, sounds like the typical tax collector for the IRS/Goobermint of today. Jackals needs a message, straight from the Holy Word of G_d concerning His ordination of Human Goverment in Genesis 9. Jackals would do well to discern that human goverment is ordained by a Holy, Righteous G_d to be a terror to evil and a blessing to that which is righteous.
"Rev Car-Jack, the Uplifting" must be in agreement with the goobermints position on the execution of the unborn, in their mother's womb. He is in agreement because he willingly gives his tax monies for this purpose. He does not stand in opposition to this, nor would he consider standeing with other Pro-Life demonstrators on the streets of OKC. I wonder! Does Jackals ignore or believe these places don't exist in his city? Does Jackals lack guts or courage to preach the gospel Truth in front of these evil places?
Jackals tries to portray himself as an expert on the IRS code concerning 501 c 3, tax exempt status concering churches. Jackals has NOT read the fine print before paying the $500.00 fee for the "right" of being tax exempt.
Jackals does not understand the great danger of telling the Truth concerning the state of AmeriKa today. Jackals lacks guts and courage to take that message to the streets of OKC because he is the typical apostate "preacher."
The goobermint is happy with the "Rev. Car-Jacks" of this world. So is Satan, the Devil, who is his real master. Because Satan is his master, Jackal's is in no danger of ever being carried out of "his" church or ministry by the Feds.
Of course, Jackal's gives the glory to himself and NOT to Almighty G_d.
[> Re: ACNR/Dolly/Bethany/Tamarisk & Saints -- enemy of false religionests in bishops titles, 20:58:53 08/03/02 Sat
It is a strange and fearful quirk of human nature to
charge a man with being an enemy though his only
motive is to preach the truth. Thus Paul inquired of
the Galatians who were being led astray by false
teachers: "Am I therefore become your enemy, because I
tell you the truth?" (Gal. 4:16)
It's not so strange that the enemies of The Truth hate those who preach The Truth and stand convicted for loving darkness more than The Light.
John 3:19-21
19This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."
excellent article on jack's heresy of "adoptionism" -- A Catholic, NOT Roman, 10:00:19 08/02/02 Fri
The DAKE BIBLE is Of the Devil!
I have had numerous contacts with folks who look to a Dake Bible for its 'input' into their spiritual lives. I finally saw fit to find some information on it. Here is a page that I found that may help some of you out there in DakeLand to finally come to the conclusion that it is of the devil, as the title states. I personally have not seen nor touched one - I have only been around it's influence, and it has not ever been good, believe me! Pastor Mike Paulson
Confused Charismatic Theology & The "Dake's Bible"
by Rev. Joseph R. Chambers, D.D.
from The End Times & Victorious Living, July/August 1999
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Many years ago I became leery of the Dake's Bible, but never really understood why. The only thing I could identify was that those who became strong in their study of Dake also became arrogant and unteachable. If Dake said it, then it really did not matter what anybody else said or what the general difference was in other Scriptures. I basically quit using the Dake's Bible about twenty years ago and simply put it on the shelf.
Finally, I am beginning to learn why the inspiration I experienced caused me to move away from Dake's Annotated Reference Bible. I never saw the deceptive quotes that I have recently discovered, probably because to begin with I never used it much. As I have now learned, the Dake's Bible was really the text of the Charismatics before there was a movement called "Charismatic." Let me give you one Scripture that is foundational to what Hagin, Copeland, Hinn, Crouch, etc. are now teaching around the world.
This quote from Dake's Bible is the very first New Testament note in the edition that I have owned since the early seventies. The edition I am quoting from is the sixth printing, December 1971.
"Gr. Christos, 'Anointed.' - Used in N.T. 577 times. Like the name "Jesus" it has no reference to deity, but to the humanity of the Son of God, who became the Christ or the "Anointed One" 30 years after He was born of Mary. God "made" Him both Lord and Christ. The Heb. Is 'Messiah'." (Dake's Annotated Reference Bible, Finis Jennings Dake, published by Dake Bible Sales, Inc, Lawrenceville, Georgia, New Testament, p.1.)
No Biblically solid minister or Bible student would accept the quote above. It is rank heresy and must be totally rejected or our view of Jesus Christ as the eternal Son of God is compromised. To suggest that Jesus became the Christ or the "Anointed One" thirty years after Hs birth is to commit heresy. This is an ancient heresy that is called "adoptionism." Kenneth Scott Latourette stated in his book, History of Christianity, Volume 1, the following:
"Others, called the Ebionites, maintained that Jesus was merely a man, a prophet, a spokesman for God, as were the great Hebrew prophets of the past. Although some of them accepted the virgin birth of Jesus, others are said to have taught that Jesus was the son of Joseph and Mary, that at His baptism Christ descended upon him in the form of a dove, that he then proclaimed the unknown Father, but that Christ who could not suffer, departed from him at his crucifixion." (Latourette, page 121-122, Harper Collins).
This is a dividing of the natures of Jesus Christ, rather than the established truth of the unity of His Son of God and Son of Man natures. He was both Son of God and Son of Man at every point in His incarnation.
He is, and was, eternally the Son of God, anointed of the Holy Ghost. The doctrines of Hagin, Copeland, Crouch, and Hinn, etc. are clearly associated with this heresy. Paul Crouch, in a statement to Benny Hinn on TBN, stated that Jesus re-ceived His divinity back when He ascended out of hell after being born again. (See our video, TBN- The Temple Of The Gods and Goddesses.)
As I write this article, I remember a horrible crisis that occurred about twenty years ago in the church where I now pastor. We had won a man to our church and he had made wonderful progress in the study of Scripture and his spiritual life. We elevated him to a very strong leadership position and made him a key teacher in our Sunday School. He then became involved in the Copeland doctrines and began to teach the doctrine of unbiblical prosperity. One day, he proudly began to argue to me that Jesus only became the anointed one at His baptism and was not the divine Son of God until this point. I immediately knew I had a serious problem.
When our church board met to solve the problem, we asked him to either renounce this idea or resign from his class. He refused and we dismissed him. Of course, he went up the road a short distance and started his own church. We lost a host of family members; all of which have never been stable in their Christian life since that time. I remember that the Dake's Bible had become his primary study Bible and the arrogance that I now know was evident in Finis Dake had become evident in this individual. He has never returned to the stability and truth that he traded for the Charismatic deception.
Facts About The Late Finis Dake
My method in trying to protect the body of Christ from deception is to refrain from any personal attack on anyone, but to deal with doctrine and Biblical truth. It seems appropriate to note some matters that relate to Dake because they were certainly part of the shaping of his ministry. My concerns are documented with information on the web site owned by the Dake's Ministry or from others, who have researched his personal life.
On the Dake web site there is an article dedicated to Finis Dake himself prior to his death, in which he stated some very remarkable things. Mr. Dake states,
"I was immediately able to quote hundreds of Scriptures without memorizing them. I also noticed a quickening of my mine to know what chapters and books various verses were found in. Before conversion, I had not read one full chapter of the Bible. This new knowledge of Scripture was a gift to me, for which I give God the praise. From the time of this special anointing until now, I have never had to memorize the thousands of Scriptures I use in teaching. I just quote a verse when I need it, by the anointing of the Spirit."
This is absolutely contrary to Scripture and puts Dake, at least in his mind, on the same level as the Lord Jesus Christ. Remember, the criticizers of Jesus Christ stated, "How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?" (John 7:15). This would certainly give rise to him having an exalted opinion of himself and may have been one of the reasons for his arrogance. No Bible writer, Old Testament prophet, or New Testament apostle ever claimed such incredible ability. There is no Scripture to support this kind of gift by the Holy Ghost.
Research into Dake's background gives a picture of moral carelessness in his early ministry. Here is a lengthy quote by researcher, Les Brown.
"Finis Jennings Dake was born in 1902 and died in 1987. His son Finis, Jr. says it took Dake seven years of constant work to complete the 35,000 notes included in the 1,400-page Annotated Bible. It is a virtual systematic theology and a compilation of Dake's views and doctrines. "Dake was ordained under the Assemblies of God in Texas. For a time he did evangelistic work in Oklahoma. He then moved to Zion, Illinois, where his fortunes declined, following a scandal involving a 16-year-old girl.
"The May 27, 1936, issue of the Chicago Daily Tribune reported that 'An indictment, returned last February in Milwaukee, charges that on April 23, 1935, Dake took Emma Barelli, 16 years old, of Kenosha, from her home town to East St. Louis for immoral purposes.' (pg. 1). The following day, the newspaper reported that Dake registered at hotels in Waukegan, Bloomington, and East St. Louis with the girl under the name Christian Anderson and wife.
"Dake, according to government investigators, said he picked the girl up as she was hitchhiking and she insisted he drive her to East St. Louis, where he was to deliver Bible lectures in nearby communities. Dake denied that any immoral action had taken place, claiming, 'I did take her there but there was no immorality involved. I wanted to get her a job.' (Chicago Daily tribune, May 28, 1936, pg. 17).
"When Dake came to trial in Feburuary 1937, he placed himself on the mercy of the court by entering a plea of guilty to the charge of violating the Mann Act. He was sentenced to a six-month stay in the House of Corrections in Milwaukee. Dake admitted to having 'petting parties' with the girl, but again denied any improper relations had occurred between him and the girl. The Waukegan News-Sun reported, 'Had he been found guilty by a trial jury, Rev. Dake would have been subject to a maximum sentence of 10 years in a federal prison and a fine of $10,000.' (Feb. 10, 1937). Dake called the jail sentence a 'vacation' and said he would use his incarceration as an opportunity to preach to the prisoners and devote time to writing a commentary on the Bible.
"The Assemblies of God severed its relationship with Dake, and he later joined the Church of God, Cleveland, Tennessee. It is not clear how his union with the Church of God ended, but Dake eventually became independent of any church."
Dake And Mormonism
There is an abundance of confusion in Dake's Bible and his other writings. None can be worse than the quote we started this expose' with, but other departures from truth certainly paint a picture of confusion. His teachings on God the Father that are found in his notes on the book of St. John are extremely revealing. Read these words carefully.
"He is a person with a personal spirit body, a personal soul, and a personal spirit, like that of angels, and like that of man except His body is out of spirit substance instead of flesh and bones.
"He has a personal spirit body; shape; form; image and likeness of a man. He has bodily parts such as, back parts, heart, hands and fingers, mouth, lips and tongue, feet, eyes, ears, hair, head, face, arms, loins, and other bodily parts.
"He has bodily presence and goes from place to place in a body like all other persons.
"He has a voice; breath; and countenance. He wears clothes; eats; rests; dwells in a mansion and in a city located on a material planet called Heaven; sits on a throne; walks; rides; engages in other activities.
"He has a personal soul with feel-ings of grief, anger; repentance; jealousy; hate; love; pity; fellowship; pleasure and delight; and other soul passions like other beings.
"He has a personal spirit with mind; intelligence; will; power; truth; faith and hope; righteousness; faithfulness; knowledge and wisdom; reason; discernment; immutability; and many other attributes." (Dakes Annotated reference Bible, Finis Jennings Dake, published by Dake Bible Sales, Inc., Lawrenceville, Georgia, New Testament, pp. 96-97)
I presume this is where Kenneth Copeland got his Mormon doctrine of God being about 6'2" tall and weighing about 220 pounds, with a hand span of nine inches. Also, Benny Hinn is reported to have applied his teaching on "Nine numbers in the Godhead" to Dake's Bible. He later confessed that error and said he was joking with his congregation.
Such ideas about God have no relevance in the Scripture, although Dake gives multiple quotes to back up this doctrinal commentary.
Dake Limits God's Eternal Omnipotence
Here is an unbelievable commentary that is given within the story of Abraham and his visit by the preincarnate Christ. He suggests that God did not know what was happening in Sodom and Gomorrah and came to find out.
"Here we have another proof that God receives knowledge of true conditions and becomes acquainted with existing facts. This plainly teaches that God, as well as men and angels, is limited to one place as far as the body is concerned. The doctrine of omnipresence of God can be proved, but not His omnibody. In His body He goes from place to place like other persons. Abraham stood yet before the bodily presence of God, but not before the bodily presence of the 2 angels because they went to Sodom and were no longer bodily present." (Dake's Annotated Reference Bible, Finis Jennings Dake, published by Dake Bible Sales, Inc, Lawrenceville, Georgia, Old Testament, p. 15.)
It is totally unacceptable to limit God, who is unlimited. He is omnipresent, omniscient, and omnipotent. Dake's confusion arises from identifying this Divine visitor as God the Father, instead of a pre-Incarnate appearance of the Lord Jesus Christ. Our God has certainly manifested Himself to different servants, but not His Divine essence. The writer in the New Testament stated plainly,
"No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him." (John 1: 1 8).
Dake gets around this by saying,
"Our English 'seen' means to see with the eyes and also see with the mind. That it means here to comprehend fully or understand is clear from the fact that many men have seen God with the eyes. The verse could read, 'No man has ever comprehended or experienced God at any time in all His fulness, save the only begotten SOn ... He hath declared Him.'" (Dake's Annotated Reference Bible, Finis Jennings Dake, published by Dake Bible Sales, Inc, Lawrenceville, Georgia, New Testament, p. 93.)
The False Concept Of "Little Gods"
Dake not only was confused about the omnipotence of God, but he also taught that man was a miniature of God. In conjunction with Dake's commentary on the Book of Job, he wrote about the idea called anthropomorphism. Under that heading, he said some strange things.
"Anthropomorphism is the ascription of human bodily parts, attributes, and passions to God, and taking the substantiating statements of Scripture to be literal, and not figurative. (Dake Annotated Reference Bible, Finis Jennings Dake, published by Dake Bible Sales, Inc, Lawrenceville, Georgia, Old Testament, p. 547.)
His entire statement above seems childlike and basically ignorant of the revelation of Holy Scripture. Why would someone reduce God down to the level of men just because God speaks of Himself with words on our level? That is God's method throughout Scripture when He uses our language to convey His eternal truth. Because God said, "I saw you," does not mean His eyes are limited to human shape and size. The Bible said emphatically,
"God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth." (John 4:24).
From this false concept, it is natural to move directly to the next step. If God is man-like, then man must be god-like. Under the same heading as above, Dake wrote about our god-like state.
"Truly He is not only all that man, angels, and other beings are in this respect, but infinitely greater in everything; and man, in reality, is simply a miniature of God in attributes and powers." (Dake Annotated Reference Bible, Finis Jennings Dake, published by Dake Bible Sales, Inc, Lawrenceville, Georgia, Old Testament, p. 587.)
This statement by Dake does not go as far as saying what is now being promoted by modem Charismatic leaders, but he does lay the foundation. I remember an interesting series of programs I viewed on TBN some years ago concerning the Dakes Study Bible. It was on the Ever Increasing Faith/Dr. K.C. Price program on Friday evenings on TBN.
Price, for those who are unaware, is a black pastor in the Crenshaw District of Los Angles. It is mostly a "black" church, though more "whites" have started to attend. Price, along with his wife Betty, co-pastor the church. (Tamarisk notes--always be aware and wary of a church that has Mr. and Mrs. "Pastors." It is an indication they are, at the very least, weak or failing in contextual truth in sound, pure Biblical doctrines.) They are of the "Name It, And Claim It" crowd of Charismania.
Price's daughter is president of the "Corporation." A 501 c 3 corporation under the IRS tax code. They are in bed with the IRS and the goobermint, who believes the G_d's ordained Church of Y'shua should be taxed. They have paid (just like "Rev Car Jack, the Up Lifting"), their $500.00 fee for the "right" to become "tax exempt." This fee, of course, is paid to its real god, the IRS/the Goobermint, for the "right" to purchase anything of necessity for the church. The "idea" running rampant in churches today, is they need the goobermint's help, through the IRS code, to exist. It is a pact from hell itself!
Having been trained in an Unregistered, True New Testament Church, which happens to be Baptist, my passions run deep on this subject. I have seen friends of mine, such as Dr. Greg Dixon, being hauled off on stretchers, on the order of some apostate judge under the GWB "administration." There are others currently in prison, who are friends of mine, for their witness for Y'shua.
I'm not sure exactly where we are in G_d's prophetic time table, but, we are certainly further along than most people realize.
Reading at R1, and other places, leaves me believing the posters there are of the Laodecian church spoken of in Revelation 3. They are, at the very least, disfunctional," being neither hot nor cold.
They are lost in their spiritual and moral relativism. Mags posted a comment concerning Rush and Conservatism. Mags understands neither. If she did, she would understand Rush, at best, is a Neo-Conservative. Rush also has many "fag, pedophile" contributors to his program. He is bought and paid for by these types of people.
Forgot to add the gist of the Price message. He considered the Dakes Study Bible to be racist.
ACNR/Dolly/Bethany -- tamarisk, 13:39:08 08/03/02 Sat
R1 is an amusing place to visit. Never a dull moment. Just "dull points."
This mornings posts started out with Sim and GellyB exchanging comments about gun control and gun education.
GellyB seems to think gun education should be taught in schools rather than by the father, in the home. Oops! I forgot, most families are suffer from the absence of one parent, the father. The "master plan" of Satan, the Devil, is to separate and conquer G_d's ordained family. He has perverted each and every other institution ordained by G_d, too! Civil or human goverment, and, by the destruction of that and the family, he has corrupted His Church.
It is obvious GellyB understands NOT, the great problems in the Church of today.
Then, we have Lilith and her "posting" concerning Calvinism and Armianism. She understands neither, even after posting the article. She does not even understand salvation and Y'shua as Lord.
I briefly read over the Mags, Furry Murray, Dorito posts of a few daze ago. SNAFU!
Is "crinkly" Bill the result of Lilith NOT blowing him up to the stated air rating on his left foot? ;)
Is the other forum "dead?" Can I take it out of my bookmarks?
Are you going public with this forum eventually?
ACNR/Dolly/Bethany -- tamarisk, 15:54:28 08/01/02 Thu
Just wanted to post a quick message to say I found ya'll. I see Dorito has tried to capitalize on Lilith's profession of her mental instability by claiming "ACNE" has multiple personalities.
Not much comparison with anyone iff'n she'd look in da mirror. Oops! No reflection. lol!
Will have more morning time to post in a few weeks. School starts back in these regions the 15th.
Have some interesting messages to share with the R1 crowd out of bible study in Genesis and Exodus concerning the Trinity. Interesting teachings on the tabernacle.
Have some interesting messages to share with the R1
crowd out of bible study in Genesis and Exodus
concerning the Trinity. Interesting teachings on the
tabernacle.
They could use that over at WOGGIE's apostate forum too......demon jack howell especially makes a really, really bizarre case for modalism, that God has a physical body and parts with a spirit and soul---Benny Hinn teaches the same nonsense, and that Jesus IS that body, but shifts into "soul" and "spirit" as the Father and Holy Spirit.
jack is like the man who had one demon cast out, but returned with 7 of his pals.
89 Proofs of The Trinity
Eighty-nine Proofs of A Divine Trinity
What we mean by Divine Trinity is that there are three separate and distinct persons in the Godhead,
The doctrine of the Trinity can be clearly seen, being understood by the visible things that are made, even to
His eternal power and Godhead (Romans 1:20). What on earth was created in the image and likeness of
God? Man (Genesis 1:26-28). Do God's image and likeness consist only of moral and spiritual powers? If so,
it can be concluded that man is only a moral and spiritual being. Is God bodiless? If so, we can conclude that
man is also bodiless.
Is God only one being made up of several persons or beings in the one being? If so, we can conclude that
man is one person or being made up of many. Does God need a flesh body in order to have any kind of
body? No! There are such things as spirit and heavenly bodies. See 1 Cor. 15:35-38. From this passage we
learn that all things in creation?grain, fish, birds, beasts, man, angels, and even the planets?have bodies, sizes,
shapes, and forms.
The Bible declares that God has a body, shape, image, likeness, physical parts, a personal soul and spirit, and
all other things that constitute a being or a person with a body, soul, and spirit
(see note, §John 4:24; note,
§John 5:37; The Doctrine of Man.
Angels, cherubim, seraphim, and all other spirit beings have spirit bodies and personal souls and spirits. They
have been seen with the natural eyes of men over 100 times in Scripture (see Appearances of Angels to
Men). If all other spirit beings have spirit bodies, could not the members of the Trinity also have spirit
bodies? The 284 passages on spirits in Scripture prove that spirit bodies are just as real and capable of
operation in the material worlds as are flesh bodies. There is no such thing as a world of creations made up
of invisible substance. The so-called spirit world must be understood simply as spirit beings inhabiting
material worlds created by God. Heaven itself is a material planet (Genesis 1:1; Hebrews 11:10-16), having
cities, mansions, furniture, inhabitants, living conditions, etc. See Heaven.
God has been seen physically by human eyes many times (Genesis 18:1-33; Genesis 19:24; Genesis
32:24-30; Exodus 24:11; Exodus 33:11-33; Joshua 5:13-15; Judges 6:11-23; Judges 13:3-25; 1 Chron.
21:16-17; Job 42:5; Isaiah 6; Ezekiel 1:26-28; Ezekiel 10:1,20; Ezekiel 40:3; Daniel 7:9-14; Daniel 10:5-10;
Acts 7:56-59; Rev. 4:2-5; Rev. 5:1,5-7,11-14; Rev. 6:16; Rev. 7:9-17; Rev. 19:4; Rev. 21:3-5; Rev. 22:4).
In over 20,000 references about God in Scripture we get to know all we need to know about the subject. If
we will take the Bible literally as to what it says about Him, as we do with other things the subject will be
very clear; but if we make God a mystery, ignoring the plain statements of Scripture about Him, and refusing
to believe the many descriptions of God given by those who have seen one, two, and three separate persons
called "God," then we ill remain in ignorance.
It is true there are a few figurative statements about God in Scripture, as there are about man and other
things, but shall we do away with the reality of man and these other things because of a few figures of
speech? Let us make man mere salt and lights (Matthew 5:13-14), if we are going to do away with God
because of a few figures of speech.
We submit the following facts in Scripture to prove a Divine Trinity of separate persons in the Godhead:
1. The word "one" means one in unity as well as one in number. It means unity in 1 John 5:7, as it does in
John 17:11,21-23, and yet these three Persons, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit, are spoken of as
one each in number and individuality in Scripture. There is one God the Father, one Lord Jesus Christ, and
one Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 8:6; Ephes. 4:3-6). Thus, there are three separate Persons in divine individuality and
divine pluralty. The Father is called God (1 Cor. 8:6), the Son is called God (Isaiah 9:6,7; Hebrews 1:8; John
1:1-2; John 20:28), and the Holy Spirit is called God (Acts 5:3-4). As individual persons each can be called
God and collectively they can be spoken of as one God because of their perfect unity. The word "God" is
used either as a singular or a plural word, like sheep.
Everything that could be spoken of God collectively applies equally to each member of the Godhead as an
individual, but there are some things that are said of each person of the Deity as to position, office, and work
that could not be spoken as of the other members of the Godhead. The Father is the head of Christ (1 Cor.
11:3); the Son is the only begotten of the Father (2 John 1:3), and the Holy Spirit proceeds from both the
Father and the Son (John 14:16,26; John 15:26; John 16:7-15; Acts 2:34).
2. Names of God prove plurality of persons. The Hebrew: (HSN-430) is the word for God in Genesis 1:1
and in over 2,700 other places in the Old Testament It is a uni-plural noun meaning Gods and is so translated
239 times (Genesis 3:5; Exodus 22:28; 1 Samuel 4:8; Daniel 2:11; Daniel 4:6-9; Daniel 5:11,14; etc.).
Sometimes 'Elohiym is used with plural verbs and pronouns, "the Gods they caused me to wander" (Genesis
20:13), and "there the Gods they appeared unto him" (Genesis 35:7).
3. Plural pronouns are used of God, proving plurality of persons (Genesis 1:26; Genesis 3:22; Genesis 11:7;
Isaiah 6:8; John 14:23; John 17:11,22-23).
4. First, second, and third personal pronouns are used hundreds of times in Scripture, referring to one, two,
and three persons of the Godhead in the same sense they are used of men. Sometimes the different
members of the Deity use them to and of one another in the same sense man uses them. In John 17 alone
Jesus uses them 162 times in speaking to and of His Father (cp. John 14:16-17,26; John 15:26; John
16:7-15). Sometimes singular pronouns are used of the whole Godhead of three members as a unity (Exodus
20:3; Isaiah 44:6,8; Isaiah 45:5,21; Isaiah 46:9; Hosea 13:4), just like the whole church as a unit is spoken of
as a man and "he" (Ephes. 2:14-15; Ephes. 4:13; Ephes. 5:25-27; 2 Thes. 2:7-8).
5. "Man is become as one of us" proves plurality of persons (Genesis 3:22).
6. Two and three Persons called God have been seen by the same men at the same time and places as
being separate persons (Daniel 7:9-14; Matthew 3:16-17; John 1:31-34; Acts 7:54-60; Rev. 6:16; Rev.
7:9-17; Rev. 21:22; Rev. 22:3).
7. Two Lords are mentioned in Genesis 19:24; one on earth and one in heaven.
8. Two Persons are referred to in the Old Testament See Psalm 8:5-6 with Hebrews 2:5-18; Psalm 16:8-10
with Acts 2:25-36; Psalm 22:1-22 with Matthew 27:35,39-43,45-46; Hebrews 9:14; Hebrews 10:5-12; Psalm
40:6-10 with Hebrews 10:5-7; and Psalm 45:6-7 with Hebrews 1:8-9.
9. Two Lords are mentioned sitting side by side (Psalm 110:1,5; Matthew 22:44; Matthew 26:64; Acts
2:33-34; Acts 7:54-56; Romans 8:34; Ephes. 1:20; Col. 3:1; Hebrews 1:3,13; Hebrews 8:1; Hebrews 10:12;
Hebrews 12:2; 1 Peter 3:22; Rev. 22:3).
10. Two Persons are mentioned and required in order to understand the plain language of Psalm 2; Psalm
9:19; Psalm 132:17; Proverbs 30:4; Isaiah 4:2; Isaiah 10:16-17; Isaiah 28:16; Isaiah 49:1-10; Isaiah 50:4-11;
Isaiah 52:13-53:12; Isaiah 62:11; Micah 5:1-5; Jeremiah 23:4-8; Jeremiah 33:14-26; Zech. 3:8-10; Zech.
6:12-13. In these passages one is anointed, becomes the son of, is sent by, is taught by, and becomes the
servant of the other; and both are called Lord.
11. Three self-acting Persons?the Lord God, the Messiah, and the Holy Spirit?are referred to as blessing,
anointing, sending, and doing things for one another in Isaiah 11:2; Isaiah 42:1-7; Isaiah 48:16; Isaiah 59:21;
Isaiah 61:1-2; Isaiah 63:1-14; Zech. 12:10-13:2.
12. In Zech. 1:7-21 the Lord of Hosts and the angel of the Lord (also called Lord, Zech. 1:19-20; Zech.
2:1-13) are talking together. One Lord says of the other Lord that He has sent Him to Israel (Zech. 2:8-13).
One Lord refers to Himself as "Me" and to the Lord of Hosts as "His" and "He" (Zech. 2:8-11). The
conference continues throughout Zechariah until Zech. 13:6-7 where both Lords are called fellows or
associate.
13. Jesus Christ is called the son of Abraham, David, Mary, and of God (Matthew 1:1; Mark 1:1; Mark 6:3).
He is just as much a separate person from God as He is of these other persons.
14. Two Persons are referred to many times in the New Testament (Matthew 11:27; Luke 23:46; John
1:1-2,18; John 5:19-20; John 14:1-9; John 16:15; John 17:3,10; Acts 2:38-39; Acts 3:13-26; Phil. 2:5-11;
Ephes. 3:5; Col. 1:5; 2 Thes. 2:16-17; Titus 2:13; Hebrews 1:1-3; Rev. 20:6; Rev. 22:3).
15. Two and three Persons are mentioned in the introductions to New Testament books (Romans 1:1-4,7; 1
Cor. 1:3; James 1:1; 1 Peter 1:1-3; 2 John 1:3; Rev. 1:1-6; etc.).
16. God is the head of Christ and thus greater than He in position (1 Cor. 3:23; 1 Cor. 11:3; 1 Chron. 29:11;
John 14:28).
17. Christ is the mediator between God and man, not between Himself and man (1 Tim. 2:5).
18. Two and three Persons are referred to in every New Testament book (Matthew 3:16-17; Matthew
12:31-32; Matthew 17:5; Matthew 22:43-45; Matthew 28:19; Mark 1:1-2,10; Mark 13:32; Luke 1:32-35;
Luke 2:40,52; Luke 3:22; Luke 4:1; Luke 4:18; Luke 9:35; Luke 23:46; Luke 24:39 with John 4:24; John
1:1-3,14,18; John 5:17-25,31-38; John 6:37,44-46,57; John 7:16-18,28,37-39; John 8:13-19,26-38,42,54; John
10:15-18,24,29,36; John 12:26-31,44,49-50; John 14:1-26,28-30; John 15:1-26; John 16:1-33; John 17:1-26;
John 18:11; John 20:17,21; John 18:11; John 20:17,21; Acts 1:7-8; Acts 2:24-36; Acts 3:13-26; Acts
4:10,26-31; Acts 5:29-33; Acts 7:37,55-56; Acts 8:12-17; Acts 9:17; Acts 10:38-48; Acts 17:31; Romans
1:3,7,9; Romans 5:1-11; Romans 8:1-13,26-39; 1 Cor. 1:3-9; 1 Cor. 2:10; 1 Cor. 3:23; 1 Cor. 8:6; 1 Cor. 11:3;
1 Cor. 12:3; 1 Cor. 15:57; 2 Cor. 1:2-3; 2 Cor. 5:17-21; 2 Cor. 13:14; Galatians 1:1-3; Ephes. 1:2-3; Ephes.
3:14; Ephes. 4:3-6; Ephes. 6:23; Phil. 1:2; Phil. 2:5-11; Col. 1:2-3,13-19; Col. 3:1; 1 Thes. 1:1-10; 1 Thes.
3:13; 2 Thes. 1:1-2; 2 Thes. 2:16; 1 Tim. 1:2; 1 Tim. 2:5; 1 Tim. 5:21; 1 Tim. 6:14-16; 2 Tim. 1:2; 2 Tim. 4:1;
Titus 1:4; Titus 2:13; Philemon 1:3; see note, §Rev. 5:13 for 30 last New Testament references). In no
conceivable way can we force a meaning of three persons in one person; three beings in one being; or three
manifestations of only one person in any of these or any other scripture.
19. There are three distinct and separate witnesses that bear witness of Christ (1 John 5:5-11,13,20). Both
God and man require this many personal and separate witnesses to confirm any point (Matthew 18:16; 2
Cor. 13:1). The water and blood of 1 John 5:8 could not be accepted as accredited personal witnesses to
confirm any point (Matthew 18:16; 2 Cor. 13:1). The water and blood of 1 John 5:8 could not be accepted as
accredited personal witness in themselves. The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are the only persnal
witnesses of this passage. If we consider these to be only one person, then there are not the required
number of witnesses to establish the truth of the Sonship of Jesus Christ. We are forced by facts to admit all
of 1 John 5:7-8 as inspired Scripture and therefore, the fact that the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost are
three separate and personal witnesses instead of being only one person or witness. Indeed, many scriptures
confirm these three witnesses:
(1) The Father (Jeremiah 29:23; Malachi 3:5; §John 5:31-37, notes; Romans 1:9; Hebrews 1:1-2; Hebrews
2:3-4)
(2) The Son (Isaiah 55:4; John 18:37; 1 Tim. 6:13; Rev. 1:5)
(3) The Holy Spirit (Romans 8:16; John 15:26; Hebrews 10:15; 1 John 3:6)
If all three are witnesses, then they must be separate Persons. The water and the blood simply confirm the
intelligent testimonies of the three Persons of the Godhead and give additional weight to the Sonship of
Jesus.
20. The words through and by, used of Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, but not once of the Father, prove
that God to be a separate Person and the Head and Director of all things done by and through them (1 Cor.
3:23; 1 Cor. 11:3; John 10:29; John 14:28; John 14:16-17,26; John 15:26; John 16:7-15; Acts 2:33-34):
(1) Through Jesus Christ (Acts 4:2; Romans 1:8; Romans 5:1,9,11; Romans 6:23; Romans 7:25; Romans
15:17; Romans 16:27; 1 Cor. 15:57; 2 Cor. 3:4; Galatians 3:14; Galatians 4:7; Galatians 5:10; Ephes. 2:7,18;
Phil. 4:7,13; Titus 3:6; Hebrews 13:21; 1 Peter 1:22; 1 Peter 4:11; 1 John 4:9)
(2) By Jesus Christ (John 1:3,10,17; John 10:9; Acts 4:10; Acts 10:36; Romans 2:16; Romans 3:22; Romans
5:17,21; Galatians 1:1; Ephes. 1:5; Ephes. 3:9; Col. 1:15-20; Col. 3:17; Hebrews 1:1-3; 1 Peter 2:5; 1 Peter
5:10)
(3) Through the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:2; Acts 21:4; Romans 8:13; Romans 15:13,19; Galatians 5:5; Ephes. 2:22;
Hebrews 9:14)
(4) By the Holy Spirit (Ezekiel 11:24; Micah 3:8; Zech. 4:6; Matthew 12:28; Luke 2:27; Luke 4:1; Acts
11:28; Romans 5:5; Romans 15:19; 1 Cor. 2:10; 1 Cor. 6:11; 1 Cor. 12:3,13)
Proofs that Jesus Is Not the Father:
21. The Father was in heaven all the time that Jesus was on earth (Matthew 5:16,48).
22. Christ now sits at the right hand of the Father (see note 9, above).
23. Jesus said He would confess men "before My Father," proving He is not the Father (Matthew 10:32;
Rev. 3:5).
24. Jesus always prayed to the Father as a separate Person (Matthew 11:25; John 17).
25. The Father existed outside the body of Jesus, so He could not be Jesus (Matthew 2:12; Matthew 3:17;
Matthew 17:5; John 12:27-30).
26. Both Jesus and Satan refer to a God separate from Jesus (Matthew 4:6-10).
27. God was the Father of Jesus, not Jesus Himself (Ephes. 1:3,17; Ephes. 3:14).
28. In parables Jesus illustrates His relationship to the Father as that of separate persons (Matthew
21:33-46; John 15:1-8).
29. People are taught to go directly to the Father and not to pray to Jesus (John 14:12-15; John 15:16; John
16:23-26).
30. The Father knew things that Jesus did not know (Mark 13:32; Acts 1:7).
31. Others saw Jesus as a separate Person from the Father (Daniel 7:9-14; Acts 7:56).
32. Jesus committed His own spirit to the Father, not to Himself (Luke 23:46).
33. Jesus claimed that He came from God and was going back to God (John 8:42; John 16:5; John 10:36;
John 17:8).
34. God is a Spirit, not flesh and blood like Jesus was (John 4:24; John 19:34; Matthew 16:17; Luke 24:39).
35. People on earth with Jesus heard God speak as a separate person from heaven (Matthew 3:17;
Matthew 17:5; 2 Peter 1:16-18).
36. Jesus claimed to be the Son of God, not the Father Himself (John 5:17-35).
37. Jesus called the Father "My God," even after the resurrection (John 20:17; Rev. 3:12).
38. Jesus called God "My Father" 57 times (John 15:1; Rev. 2:27). How could He be His own God and
Father and beget Himself?
39. When Jesus was born on earth angels and people still recognized God in heaven (Luke 2:7-16). Were
they mistaken about God? Was the child all of God on earth and in heaven also?
40. Mary and Joseph acted with utmost ignorance if the baby Jesus was all of God, for they presented Him
to the Lord Who was someone other than Jesus (Luke 2:22).
41. Simeon had a revelation and guidance from the Holy Spirit that Jesus was not the only member of the
Godhead (Luke 2:26-33).
42. John the Baptist knew the Father, but he did not know the Son (John 1:31-34).
43. The Son died, not the Father (1 Cor. 15:3; 1 Peter 2:24).
44. Jesus was the only begotten Son of the Father, so could not be the Father or the begetter of Himself
(John 1:14).
45. Jesus claimed that He could not and did not do anything of Himself, but that the Father worked through
Him (John 5:19,30; John 6:38; John 8:28; John 12:49-50).
46. He did not come to do His own will, but that of the Father who sent Him (John 5:30; John 6:38).
47. His doctrine was not His, but the Father's (John 7:16-17; John 8:26).
48. He did not speak of Himself, but of the Father who had sent Him (John 7:16-18; John 8:26-40).
49. He did not please Himself, but the Father (John 8:29).
50. He was a Son, not a Father over the house of God (John 8:35-36; Hebrews 3:6).
51. He had the same relation to His Father that men have with Satan (John 8:16,35-44; John 9:4).
52. He honored the Father as all people should (John 8:49).
53. He did not seek His own glory, but that of the Father (John 8:50-54; John 17:4).
54. He knew the Father, but was not the Father (John 8:55; John 10:15).
55. He was loved by the Father as a separate person (John 10:17-18).
56. He kept the Father's commandments and they were not His own (John 12:49-50; John 15:10).
57. His disciples were given to Him by the Father (John 10:29; John 17:1-25).
58. He was equal with the Father in some things, but not in others (Mark 13:32; John 5:17-39; John
8:13-19,29-42; John 19:18-29; Acts 1:7; 1 Cor. 11:3; Rev. 1:1).
59. He and the Father were in unity and in each other in the same sense believers are to be in unity and in
God (John 10:38; John 14:10-11,23; John 17:11,21-23).
60. He was the only way to the Father (John 6:37; John 14:6).
61. He said, I am not alone or the only witness of My sonship. The Father is another witness (John 5:36-38;
John 8:13-19,54; John 12:49-50; John 14:10-11).
62. Over 80 times Jesus affirmed that He was not the Father and not the only person in the Godhead. Christ
was the speaker, but not the one spoken of or to (Matthew 7:21; Matthew 11:27; Matthew 18:10,35; Luke
2:49; John 5:17-43; John 8:19-49; John 10:17-37; John 14:7-28; John 15:1-26; Rev. 1:1; etc.). Is it any
wonder that the Godhead, the Trinity, and the unity of God are so mysterious when we force separate
persons to become only one person, all because we do not want to recognize the true meaning of the word
one as referring to unity rather than individuality in some scriptures? People would be just as great a mystery
if we forced the meaning of all men to refer to one person.
63. He was not as great as His Father (John 10:29; John 14:28; cp. 1 Cor. 11:3).
64. The Father (Matthew 3:17), Jesus (John 10:36), angels (Luke 1:32-35), demons (Mark 3:11; Mark 5:7),
and apostles (Matthew 16:16; John 1:14; Romans 8:32; 2 John 1:3), all declare the sonship of Jesus, but not
once do they declare a Christ-fatherhood.
65. The Father and the Son spoke to each other in audible voices at the same time and place, being heard by
many witnesses (Matthew 3:16-17; Matthew 7:5; John 12:27-30; 2 Peter 1:17). In no single instance could
such speaking be explained as the voice of one individual or be used to prove one Person in the Deity.
66. The word "both" is used of the Father and the Son, proving two Persons (John 15:24; 2 John 1:9).
67. The word "also" is used of the Father and the Son, proving two Persons (John 5:19,27; John 8:19; John
13:32; John 14:1).
68. The statement, "They have not known the Father nor Me," proves two Persons (John 16:3,5).
69. Christ received all power in heaven and in earth (Matthew 28:18). The Father had to be greater than
Jesus to give Him that power (John 14:28).
70. Jesus was resurrected and exalted by the Father, so He could not be the Father (Ephes. 1:20-23; Phil.
2:9-11; Hebrews 12:2; 1 Peter 3:22)
71. God made Jesus both Lord and Christ (Acts 2:33-36).
72. Six times in John 14:1-9 Jesus made it clear that He was not the Father.
Holy Spirit Is Not Jesus Or the Father:
73. The Holy Spirit is another Person, distinct from both the Father and the Son (John 5:32; John
14:16-17,26; John 15:26; John 16:7-15).
74. It was necessary that Jesus go away so that the Holy Spirit could come (John 16:5-15).
75. He has been seen with the natural eyes as a separate Person from the Father and the Son (Matthew
3:16-17; John 1:31-34; Rev. 4:5; Rev. 5:6).
76. He is symbolized as a separate Person with Christ, both of them before God who sits on a throne (Rev.
1:4-5; Rev. 3:1; Rev. 4:5; Rev. 5:6).
77. He could not be sent from God until Christ was glorified, but would then be sent from both the Father
and the Son (John 7:37-39; Acts 2:33-34).
78. He was sent from the Father to endow Jesus with power. This required three Persons: the One who
sent Him, the One being sent, and the One who received Him (Acts 10:38; Isaiah 11:2; Isaiah 42:1-7; Isaiah
61:1-2).
79. A clear distinction is made of the names of all three Persons (Matthew 28:19; 2 Cor. 13:14; 1 John 5:7).
80. A clear distinction is made between the Son who prays, the Father to whom He prays, and the Holy
Spirit for whom He prays (John 14:16).
81. A clear distinction is made between the Son on the right hand of the Father, the Father on the left hand
of the Son, and the Holy Spirit who is sent from the Father and the Son (Acts 2:33-36; Acts 7:56; John
14:16-17,26; John 15:26; John 16:7-15).
82. The Son was already given (John 3:16), when the Spirit was not yet given (John 7:39).
83. The Son can be blasphemed with forgiveness possible; but if the Spirit is blasphemed, no forgiveness is
possible. This proves two distinct Persons (Matthew 12:31-32; Mark 3:29-30; Luke 12:10).
84. The Samaritans received Jesus, but had not yet received the Holy Spirit (Acts 8:5-25).
85. Jesus could do no miracle by Himself (John 5:19), but by the Holy Spirit He did many miracles (John
2:11; Acts 10:38)
86. The Holy Spirit came not to speak of or glorify Himself, but to speak of and glorify Jesus (John 16:7-15).
87. The descent of the Holy Spirit proved the arrival of Jesus in heaven to sit at the right hand of God, thus
proving three Persons (Acts 2:33-34; John 7:39).
88. Jesus claimed even after the resurrection that He was not a spirit being, so He could not be the Father
or the Holy Spirit who are spirit beings (Luke 24:39; John 4:24; John 14:16-17,26; John 15:26; John 16:7-15).
89. In the last book of the Bible the Trinity is seen as working together in all things (Rev. 1:4-6; Rev. 3:1;
Rev. 4:5; Rev. 5:6; Rev. 21:10; Rev. 22:17).
ESSEK WILLIAM KENYON
The true father of the modern-day Faith movement. (deceased)
Essek William Kenyon's life and ministry were enormously impacted by such cults as Science of Mind, the Unity School of Christianity, Christian Science, and New Thought metaphysics. (E. W. Kenyon, The Father and His Family, 17th ed. (Lynnwood, WA: Kenyon's Gospel Publishing Society, 1964), 100; cf. Kenneth E. Hagin, "The Incarnation," The Word of Faith, December 1980, 14)
Many of the phrases popularized by present-day prosperity preachers, such as "What I confess, I possess," were originally coined by Kenyon. Kenneth Hagin ... plagiarized much of Kenyon's work, including the statement, "Every man who has been 'born again' is an Incarnation, and Christianity is a miracle. The believer is as much an Incarnation as was Jesus of Nazareth." (E. W. Kenyon, The Father and His Family, 17th ed. (Lynnwood, WA: Kenyon's Gospel Publishing Society, 1964), 100; cf. Kenneth E. Hagin, "The Incarnation," The Word of Faith, December 1980, 14)
"If Jesus' physical death could pay the penalty for Sin as some contend, then why is it necessary that a Christian die? If a Christian dies physically, does he not pay the penalty of his own sin? If physical death is the penalty for sin, then why do not the whole human race pay their own penalty, and save themselves, for all die? But we hold that the physical death of Jesus did not touch the sin issue at all." (Daniel R. McConnell, A Different Gospel (Peabody, MA: Hendrickson Publishers, 1988), 23, 28 note 23)
Repost from Tamarisk commenting on Serpent Jack's testimony unto man.
_________________________________________________________
"I was born on October 23, 1955, in Fort Worth, Texas to Wayne S. and Willa S. Howell. I was what is commonly called a "military brat" because my father was in the U.S. Air Force for 26 years, and most of my childhood was spent living on SAC Air Force Bases. To make a long story short, after dad retired from the Air Force, we moved to Oklahoma City where my mother is originally from. This was back in the '60s. My church life before coming to Oklahoma was limited to chapel services on the Air Force Bases we lived on. When we moved to Oklahoma, I began attending the Church of Christ since that was the denomination of my mother's side of the family. In my junior year of High School, I began attending a Baptist church, and began feeling the conviction of the Holy Ghost and on May 13, 1973 I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. Shortly after that, I felt God calling me to preach, so on March 31, 1974, I was licensed to preach the Gospel. In 1976, I was ordained. In 1977, I began to turn away from God after some things happened that hurt me pretty deeply, and I entered the U.S. Army. While stationed in what was then West Germany, I became interested in the Wicca religion and was initiated into the Alexandrian tradition by its founder, Alex Sanders himself after accepting his invitation to come to England on leave. I also studied the Celtic, Seax, Gardenarian, and Ecclectic traditions of Wicca. After my stint in the Army ended, I returned to Oklahoma and went to work for a Christian owned business, and God began working on me and the Holy Ghost began convicting me. Shortly afterward, I gave my life back to Christ and began serving Him as never before! He not only restored me back into fellowship with Him, but He also restored my ministry, and in 1984, I received the Baptism of the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues. God also began calling me to minister to those ensnared by the cults, and expose false doctrines that have infiltrated the Body of Christ. He has given me a powerful anointing for this area of ministry and a deep love for those so ensnared and deceived by satanic influence.
I presently attend church at Revival For Christ Club International Ministries' Power Cathedral Family Church in Moore, Oklahoma.
I recently affiliated my ministry with Pentecostal Faith Assemblies, Inc., headquarted in Ponca City, Oklahoma (now headquartered in Moore, Oklahoma). This same association also ordained me as an affiliate minister and recently as Bishop.
Today, I can honestly say that I love God more than ever before and am so thankful that He is so merciful and forgiving! I thank Him for restoring me and my ministry! To God be the glory!"
Rev. Jack Howell
An Affiliate of Pentecostal Faith Assemblies, Inc.
__________________________________________________________________
I read this over at another site While I will not contend with the testimony of a Christian, I believe there are some problem areas here.
His whole "testimony" can be summed up in the statement "I felt God calling me to preach." Notice, it was this "feeling," which apparently was not enough in his life to carry him through his "Christian walk."
Jack has all the markings of a "501 c 3" preacher. One bought and paid for by the heretical teachings of cultic churches. His "background" started in the "Church of the (Anti)Christ. His postings at Trinity and WOG indicate that CoC indoctrination. The CoC has people assigned to "new converts." I refer to them such as that in communist countries as "struggle sessions." In communist thought, your thoughts must be reformed to a Marxist/Leninist way of thought. These groups, sometimes lasting hours or days are designed to "break the will" of a person, planting the "party line," into their mind.
This is what the CoC does to its "converts." You are usually assigned a husband/wife team whom you meet with regularly. You answer a series of scripted questions about your life, your sins, shortcomings, etc. Then, this is what the leaders use to "measure" your progress.
If you pinned Jack down, you'd find he was not saved in the first place. Hence, his license and ordination are meaningless. He believes in salvation the Mags way using Acts 2:38, aka, salvation the TBN way. This is why I left Pentecostal type churches and have never looked back. They lack substance in their "Holy Roller" posture. Their "salvation" can only work because of their perverted doctrines and exercises of Scripture stretching.
You might like to find out what "flavor" of Baptist Church licensed and ordained him. Many churches calling themselves Baptist are 501 c 3 establishments. Just another tax collecting dumbed down authority of "Uncle Scam." Jack sounds like that typical, deluded registered pastor today in many of AmeriKa's pulpits.
Questions to Jack about church and clergy registration would be interesting. The Pro-Life Movement. The dumbed-down position of pastors in pulpits today concerning Scriptures such as Romans 13, etc.
Serpent lead jack was originally in the Church of Christ cult, then according to him he became “Baptist” (what ever that means.)
He states: "May 13, 1973 I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior". he was 18 years old.
“Shortly after that, I felt God calling me to preach,
so on March 31, 1974, I was licensed to preach the Gospel.”
ONE YEAR AFTER BECOMING SAVED! He was 19 years old. Where did he study for that year????
Demon jack says :< b>"In 1976, I was ordained.” age 21 years old!
(one wonders what seminary and where he studied! GLARING omission!)
”In 1977, I began to turn away from God ......." …..and then became a WITCH!
Now he is haunting Christians!
LOOK at those dates and tell me this is a stable person!
He is bouncing off the walls!
Just looking at him declares him to be a compulsive person with no discipline!
From one radical extreme of faith to another in a matter of months.
Now he is guided by serpent spirits of the WOF movement and it’s occultist leaders.
So who is surprised?????
That is because: he who walks in the darkness does not know where he goes.
A History of Cultic Attractions & Methodology
Author:
Sola Scriptura
According to his own information, juju-jack was originally in the Church of Christ cult. He was raised by a parent who was a member.
Here is a quote from a former member of Church of Christ cult see if there are any similarities in juju-jack’s device:
” I quit the church about a month into my so-called membership, and the day ended by my calling the cops at 12:00AM to get one of their members off my front porch. The day after I ended up unplugging my phone and then I ordered "call-block" from my phone co...I remember after my departure from the ICoC about a month later I ran into some of the ICoC members at a football game, I tell you the truth that they would not even look at me. I have no idea what's going through their minds, but I know it has something to do with "mind control," (Ric).
These remind one much of the type of preying, abusive tactic and threatening actions Jack Howell uses. After he was exposed as a false prophet of the WOF cult, his demons start cranking him into the abusive manipulative tactics he was likely raised with and has perfected over his adult life.
We on this board have been repeatedly threatened with “police” and various other “actions” and warned of persons “knocking at our doors”, shutting down our servers, etc. etc. Smoke Stack Ju-Ju-Jack! He is unstable! And uses COC methodology.
Here is another quote from a former member of the Church of Christ:
” I must admit, the ICC is a very strong church. I quit after two months of membership and the people who used to be my 'friends and family' no longer wish to speak to me as I am now in ' a church that is not ordained by GOD', i.e. a non-ICC church. Please stay away from this group, they are a very controlling group. Before you realize it, they have taken over your life and the longer you stay, the harder it becomes to quit.”
Jack who has been asked not to post here he is preying on this site. He posted with a proxy server below the following: ” it is NOT required to go to Bible college or cemetary, excuse me, I mean seminary, to be licensed or ordained as a minister. ( I think he meant cemetery, BTW you’d think an “ordained”, “licensed”, “bishop”….did I miss any? Oh yeh and “reverend” would have preformed enough services to know the correct spelling of that particular word, or HAS he preformed routine services?) Can he mean he is ordained of ‘God”? In Church of Christ-type of parlance?
In a his dialectical attempt to change the emphasis of the below post, and re-direct attention away from the salient point being made, black jack attempted to trounce on Dolly’s point that the man’s pattern and HISTORY IS THAT OF unbalanced behavior, as he compulsively bounces from one extreme of beliefs to another. From the upbringing in the Church of Christ cult, to being “Born Again” shortly there after. To being “licensed” to “preach the gospel (joining hands with mammon) in less than a year of being “saved.” To then being “ordained” only two years later. Then becoming a WITCH shortly after THAT! The man is erratic. He charges head-long into one extreme after another in a short course of time. This according to HIS own information which he whored all over the forums and demanded Johns to admire it!
Now that we are examining his words and exposing him as a fraud, he is angry.
