It seems that Isabella's marriage with Hugh was fairly happy, after all he married her when he could no longer expect the county of Angouleme as her dowry as during their earlier engagement. Chances are that it might have been a marriage of love. Isabella got between the political lines as she was entitled to (but never really received) seizable annuities from the English king when her husband (on English territory) was a declared follower of the French king. She was accused of plotting to poison the king (I couldn't find which one) and fled to the proven refuge of Fontevraud where she stayed until her death. She's also buried there.

Alienor's daughter Joanna of Toulouse fled out of her extremely unhappy marriage with Raimond of Toulouse. She took her vows inspite of being pregnant, both mother and newborn son died very soon. Fontevraud was a traditional shelter for both Alienor's and Henry's family. Both wives of Alienor's grandfather fled to Fontevraud, and one of Henry's aunts was abbess there.

If you like to read history fiction with a sound scientific background you should ask your used bookstore or your library if they can find Maurice Druon's seven (smallish) volume series "The accursed Kings". It's a history of France and the Capet kings at roughly the same period as the Plantagenet aera.
