I view it the same as everything else. There's no way to please everyone. The single biggest benefit I see, Jeff, is that insurance companies will no longer be able to rule out people for pre existing conditions nor will they be allowed to drop coverage when people need it the most.

To 46 million Americans who don't have health insurance, it's a lifeline. Not all of them are lazy SOBs who won't work. In our household, we have three with no insurance. Jeff is still on WC and no coverage for anything unrelated to his accident. His employer has gone out of business which also affects our oldest son who doesn't live with us. His son has been unable to find anything--a fledgling roofer (no construction for entry level) and a daughter who's a third party administrator (a rare breed) whose two prior employers went belly up. Collectively we have four grandchildren living with us. Ask them how they feel.

Other than cancer treatment and maybe one or two other areas, we lag behind even third world countries in healthcare--we're in the upper 30s. NHO has taken not that there's an increase in women dying in childbirth!

We've often talked about wages being stagnated for years. Instead or raises, employers are using that money to pay for healthcare. Meanwhile, prices have risen, stapping what used to be the middle class. We're working longer hours for less pay.

Although the present bill doesn't please everyone, it's a start and can be improved as time goes on. The question is can we afford to do nothing?
