The wind blows hard, bringing up the loose sand that went for miles across baren, dead lands. It stopped suddenly, and the sand settled down again. Upon reaching the top of a great dune, look into the valley. The sand ended abruptly to fall down steep cliff faces. Etched with the creases and time, raged and harsh in appearance. These cliff's surrounded the entire valley. In the center of the valley, sat what appeared to be large, tall pillars, made of stone. When closer, one would recognize them as buildings; homes, shops, and inns. The streets were cobblestone, though sand still ran like ants when blown by the wind across them in some places. Camels were huddled together in small pins throughout the city. It was vast, hug in fact, the buildings crowding the narrow cobblestone streets, some of the buildings almost seemed to hang over the streets near the tops in places. Every window throughout the city had heavy wooden shutters, tools for when sand storms came. A giant circle was at the middle of town, cleared of everything, though people bustled through it to go on with their every day lives. Wells were positioned throughout the city, leading down into a great cavern below it. A giant underground river flowed deep beneath the ground. Large drains were even at the down grades of hills, for when the great rains of the desert came, usually resulting in a minor flooding of the city. Over all, the city seemed well taken care of, though one still wonders, where they had enough food to feel the entire city.
