I'd like to throw an opinion in from the LEGITIMATE medical community. AA has helped countless people around the world battle a very real and very deadly disease. All the witticisms in the world won't change that. You are also incorrect with your stats. While 5-7% may indeed be the success rate for continued sobriety in general, AA has a proven track record. At last estimate 75% of those who followed the basic principles and traditions of the program got and stayed sober. You acknowledged yourself that AA talks about "God as you understand him" and a "Higher Power." This has nothing to do with organized religion. A higher power for some may be Jesus, for others a miracle of nature etc... I have seen up close, the incredible damage years of alcohol abuse can cause, and I've seen people who were quite literally headed for death, rebound and become healthy, productive and self-confident once again. I don't impose my religious beliefs on anyone but as a physician I can tell you that reading about the body and brain's ability to regenerate and stave off fatal consequences and actually witnessing it are two very different things. You seem very intelligent and no one disputes that you are comical. I don't believe, however, that you or Penn and Teller have any scientific credibility. AA is not a cult, it is an altruistic non-profit organization based on seeking and providing help, understanding, acceptance and spiritual guidance, whatever you perceive that to be. Surely you don't consider yourself the highest power, do you?

All that aside, someone should inform Zack that Ottawa is our capital not Toronto.
