Look, I said that AA did help some people. And if you go through it several times, follow the *legitimate* points to get off booze, and get some friends who will help you, it has a good chance of working. But so do a lot of other ways. My original point was that of ALL the people who go to AA, go through the program once, and exit, the success rate is 5%. Exactly the same as if you do it on your own.

The first point of their 12 steps is to admit you are "powerless" against the addiction. That's a shitty way to start off. When people go to you with a problem, Tony, do you first make them admit that they have no control over the situation? No, of course not (at least I hope you don't). You make them feel like they (along with your help) have some sort of plan to overcome, or at least slow the progress of the problem.

I may be a lowly (yet LEGITIMATE) Massage Therapist, but I like to think that I am a part of the health care community and have some, albeit not a slew of, scientific credibility. And no, I'm not the highest power. That seems to be Zack.

Totally agree with you that he needs a geography lesson, however.
