Dear Mom of an addict,
I understand where you are. One of the hardest things for me and any co-dependant is to let go and let God. We keep thinking - even when we're slammed with reality, that we still can "help" or know what they need to do, etc. This, is the form of addiction that we have sometimes where we cannot let go. God wants us to be obedient to Him and by having faith in Him, that is what pleases Him. I have to keep remembering all the time that He is the Creator, He is in control (I can't make the sun come up in the morning!). We tend to not believe these things for many reasons. One is because that is what the enemy wants us to believe and another reason is that we are creatures of instantcy. If we don't instantly see "miracles", we have a problem believing. It's in the things that we don't see that faith is in. My faith, however, was from hearing Him and seeing His hand in the changes made within my own heart as well as in my ex's heart. I first had to experience the peace that Jesus gave me. I can tell you that when I was going through this insanity, I was also headed for the destruction that the enemy had planned for me. It was in talking to The Father and the time alone with Him in my quiet bedroom that things were revealed to me. I decided to claim God's promises in Jeremiah 29:11. And He came through. Please know, that He will not grab control of our minds and hearts, we have to give it to Him by asking Him. YOur son will need to look for God and the only way of that happening is though his consequences and your and our prayers. In my experience, when I gave up on myself being able to do anything (powerlessness) and just prayed for my ex did things change. When your son sees bottom, he will look for God. Keep praying and I will pray for you and your family.
God Be with you,
Hulalea
