Midnight paws stepped lightly, ears perked in the darkness of night. In all the time spent away from her last pack, Letha had yet to be in the sun's rays. Graz sat contently on her shoulder, the rest of the flock off somewhere else. It wasn't good to have them around her all the time; it would give her place away.
The faint sound of motion caught her attention, and quickly her gaze shifted to settle upon a bush a few leaps away. Dark nose scented the air, perhaps it might tell a secret. Ah, indeed, it did: a rabbit. Lowering her head, she padded a bit closer, trying to determine where the rabbit might dash when startled.
In almost silent motion, Graz took to the air, rising high above to land in a tree, looking down upon the wolfess and the lapine.
More movements. Creeping a bit closer, almost in the style of a feline, yet not, Letha drew nearer. Any sounds that might have been in the rest of the area had died, silence having a slipped its noose around the noise. One final rustle of leaves and Letha bolted towards it, the rabbit, tense with fear, bounding away in a flash of white and brown.
Too late. Within moments, she had closed the gap, coal jaws opening wide to reveal an array of glittering ivory. The trap of white and raven steel closed shut on a back leg, picking up the prey and continuing to run with it before comming to a stop. Moving towards a tree, Letha turned her head away, the rabbit kicking for hopeless freedom, and then swung it right towards the strong trunk. A soft thud sounded as the rabbit hit the tree, quickly followed by a wet crack, the neck snapping in the head's momentum as it missed the tree.
Dropping it in satisfactory, her eyes blazed down, more golden than the day, a crazed look bound within the shadows of her orbs. Window to the soul; might someone be looking out to the world? Once again, Letha dipped her head, the unusual look receding back into their depths as she picked the bundle up into her jaws and began to eat.
Fluttering down, Graz waited patiently for his share. The wolfess tossed him some, face already bloodied with the rabbit's life.
