Abe, you forgot to mention the brownies!

What a fun weekend! Just goes to show you don't have to have a lot of people show up to have a good time.

Thanks so much to Sonny and Janet Harris for their help. Sonny put RUTS signs up to the staging area and to my cabin. He and Janet got up early Saturday morning to drive from the GVL campground all the way over to the staging area to be available to hand out route maps and San Bernardino Forest maps to the riders who showed up.

Around noon, Abe and his three RUTSter buddies showed up at the cabin and were ready to eat after riding 50 dual sport miles from Glen Helen. I had bought some food and drinks for them because, of course, they couldn't carry their lunch on them.

They had a nice break and decided to ride the RUTS Club Ride route, which Abe said was probably about 40 miles long. Then they'd ride an additional 50 miles back to Glen Helen, where they were parked. First they'd go 4 or 5 miles into Running Springs to fill up on gas and then double back to Crab Flats to the start of the route. I gave them route maps amd dual sport maps, although Abe had printed some out.

When none of their bikes would start on the first, second, third, and fourth try, I thought they might have to push-start them down the street toward the lake!

They rode over to the GVL campground and got to visit with Sonny and Janet, and the campground host came over and reminded them that this was not an offroad area. (Guess he didn't see their license plates!)

Sonny and Janet and the three kids had a GREAT time. There's so much to do at GVL, and I think they did most of it. They found a fantastic place to camp at the GVL campground right next to hiking trails, a big meadow, and a firepit, and they were able to roast marshmallows Saturday night, along with the other kids at the campground who gravitated toward them. It got cool, so there were no mosquitos!

The next morning they took their Samurai from Crab Flats along 3N16 to Big Pine Flats and back, and still got in some more hiking and rented two paddleboats. The kids were sorry they had to leave. They wanted to go swimming in the lake.

During the weekend, the kids got my resident gopher to take peanuts from their fingers. Marissa took a video of him. I was able to feed one of the ground squirrels peanuts from my hand. Now he begs for them by the front door.

We had ten people show up. Wish more of you could have made it. You have no idea what you missed.

Sonny says that a group of RUTSters should camp together next year at GVL Campground next to the meadow and then we could have fellowship around the campfire. We'll see!
