SECTION 5.0


EXTERNAL WALL FINISHES


5.1Repairs to External Wall Tiles (Option A)


(a)Markng out
The Corrtractor shall mark out the areas for repair and ascertain with the
Surveyor prior to the removal of tiles/rendering.
(b)Saw cutting and removal of tiles/rendering
Saw-cut with a carborundum or diamond abrasive disk perpendicular to the surfaces for the full depth of the tiles/rendering around the perimeter of the areas to be repaired. Cut lines are to follow the joints in the tiling to generally produce a rectangular area for repair.
(c)Breaking out tiles/rendering
Carefully break out tiles/rendering using hand held hammers and chisels as necessary. Mechanical tools for this operation shall only be used after approval by Surveyor. Avoid large areas of tiles/rendering becoming
detached during breaking out operations. Submit for the Surveyor's approval the proposed method of removal and means of containing debris. Surveyor's approval shall be obtained before breaking out areas larger than the “ Marking Out Size" recorded.


(d)Preoaration of existing concrete surfaces
Remove all dirt , grease, mould, oils, organic growth , loose and unsound materials by high pressure water jetting the repair area at a minimum pressure of 2000 p.s.i.
(e)Application of bond coat
While the repair surface is still damp, apply approved proprietary cement based bond coat to the repair area and freshly cut surfaces in strict compliance with the manufacturer's instnictions. . Avoid covering too large area at anyone time to ensure area at the rendering is applied when the bond coat is still tacky.
(f)Application of rendering
For tiled external walls, apply new render of 1:3 cement sand or granite
fines in accordance with BS5385 Part 2.


For external rendered walls, apply new render of 1:3 cement sand or granite fines in accordance with BS5262


(g)Fixing of external wall tiles
Fix wall tiles to the wall render using approved. proprietary adhesive in
accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations.


(h)Movement ioints
Form 20 mm movement joints in tiling over tiling movement joints
and reinstate all previous movement joints.

(i)Joints Grouting

Grout up joints using approved proprietary grout or proprietary grout as specified and colour to be approved by Surveyor.
G)Void Detection
The Contractor shall demonstrate that the repair carried out is sound by detecting void using the void detector tool. Redo all hollow sounding patches at the expense of the Contractor without any extension of time. Void detection after re-work shall be carried out by the Contractor.

SECTION 6.0


ROOFING


6.1General


a) All works in connection with the supply and laying of Proprietary
Roofing Systems shall form part of the Contract and shall be undertaken by Approved Specialist Roofing Applicators all as specified hereinafter. All such works shall comply with the provisions of this P.S. Clause.


b) The Contractor shall employ and pay direct the Specialist Roofing
Applicators at his own expense. Such Specialist Roofing Applicators shall be regarded as Specialist Contractor defined in “ Preliminarles Section".


c) The Proprietary Roofing Systems to be supplied and laid under thIS contract shall, in conjunction with the existing roof coverings as the case may be, ensure a sound and watertight roof to comply with the specification as amplified by the requirements of this PS Clause.


6.2Proprietary Roofing: Systems


The category of Proprietary Roofing Systems for this contract is category “BI" 一 Liquid Applied Waterproof Roof Covering Requiring Protection.


6.3Approved Lists of Proprietary Roofing Systems and Specialist Roofing:
Applicators


The following is the list of Approved Proprietary Roofing Systems together with their respective Approved Specialist Roofing Applicators for Category of Proprietary Roofing System. The Project Manager can amend the above list from time to time during the contract period.
