It so beautiful in Los Angeles today. A little sprinkling of rain, the seasons are changing; I saw some kids on my street today jumping in a big pile of Britney Spears’ hair.

She’s shaved everything else, she might as well . . . maybe she’s planning on going to Iraq, or joining the Blue Man Group.

Las Vegas Review-Journal:

NBA revelers were relatively peaceful for the first few days of All-Star festivities until a one-hour stretch early Monday morning when the massive party was winding down and tempers flared at some locations, Las Vegas police said. Four people were shot, including three who were critically injured, during two incidents that occurred between 4 and 5 a.m. at two locales on or near the Strip, said Jose Montoya, Las Vegas police spokesman.

Newark Star-Ledger:

He wasn't sending Rod Thorn any messages, he said. He wasn't angling for a trade, and he wasn't politicking to join the Kobe Express. "Half of it was left out," Kidd said of his response to a question during All-Star Weekend. "(The question was) 'Growing up in the Bay Area, what was your favorite team?' It was the Lakers. And what did I dream about being? Magic Johnson. So if you listen to the tape recorder, half of (the reply) was left out. So that quote, it wasn't to fuel the speculation. They asked me what was my favorite team was."

New York Times:

The Nets are more serious than ever about trading their star point guard, Jason Kidd, by Thursday’s trading deadline, several Eastern Conference officials said Monday. The Los Angeles Lakers are the front-runners, but their offer of young players, expiring contracts and a draft pick is probably not enough to get a deal done.

Fort Worth Star-Telegram:

Mavericks owner Mark Cuban is serious about bringing the All-Star Game to North Texas as soon as the Cowboys' new stadium opens in Arlington. Cuban said the Mavs have held preliminary discussions with Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones about hosting the NBA's midseason showcase in the $1 billion stadium scheduled to open in 2009. "It's all set, assuming the NBA approves it," Cuban said. "We want to do it at the first available moment. The new stadium solves all of our problems."

LA Times:

The nine-time All-Star added another MVP trophy to go with the one he received after also scoring 31 points for the West in the 2002 game at Philadelphia, though Sunday's award ceremony was more upbeat for him.

"Kobe had a fabulous night … fabulous game," said Miami center Shaquille O'Neal, who teamed with Bryant to lead the Lakers to three NBA championships.

"He shot the ball real well. He went to the hole strong a couple of times; he deserved it."

ESPN:

The Lakers are one of the teams mentioned in the rumors of a Jason Kidd trade out of New Jersey, and Kidd came up behind Bryant for a hug Saturday afternoon. And while Bryant said "Who doesn't" want a player like Kidd on his team, he didn't know how much of a chance there was of it happening.

"I just kind of hear basically what you guys hear," Bryant said. "I hear all the talk going on but I don't really know the seriousness of it or the possibility of it.

"In our position, we're a team that's extremely young and if you have an opportunity to bring a player like Jason Kidd in, that's something that you definitely, definitely have to look at. Nobody's approached me on it yet, that's why I don't know if it's talk or if it's rumor."

Every contender will at least make a call to investigate and see how healthy/spry Pip is at this point. Lakers, to me, are the best fit. He knows the triangle and Phil would love a big, veteran guard to add to the rotation.

Chris Sheridan, ESPN:

I chased down Rod Thorn at halftime, and he said there is no truth to any rumor that he has a deal in place for Kidd or anywhere else. Furthermore, he told me there is only a "5 percent" chance he'll trade anyone on his roster by Thursday's deadline. Don't know if that'll quiet the rumor mill, which is on full throttle here this evening, but that's the very, very latest.
