I must admit that the logic of some station executives amazes me. How can anyone possibly decide whether or not to axe a show after only a handful of episodes beggars belief. Moving Wonderfalls to Thursday after Tru Calling wasn’t really helping much. Tru Calling is struggling itself and is also under threat.

Speaking of Tru Calling Sky have decided to show it over here in the UK and I think that it starts on Friday 23rd. Which is great timing as that day is Faith Appreciation Day too!!

Still speaking of shows being axed, I read recently that Alyson Hannigan maybe available to appear in the final episodes of Angel. Her understudy is currently filling in for her in the stage version of “When Harry Met Sally” whilst she films that pilot for her new comedy series (which our very own tarasApprentice made mention of a little while back) in LA.

Almond: Trip to Coventry was fine and my parents are okay thanks for asking. I’m a little behind on Tru Calling So I haven’t seen The JP episode yet (Hopefully tonight). I’m not too sure about the new guy Jack that Davis hired to work in the morgue, I think that there is some a little dodgy about him.

Kung Fu: Have to say that I agree with you and the comments that you make with your rant. It seems that good original quality programming is suffering these days. I don’t know what it’s like where you are but we have a glut of reality shows over here including “celebrities” exercising and dieting on a show call “Celebrity Fat Club”, you just know that it’s a great program by the title.

Corsa: Welcome back! I decided to follow in your footsteps and I’m spending some time in New York the next time I’m in America which will be late October to early November. I’m staying in Manhattan (the hotels on 42nd street which I think was a musical) and wonder if you had any places that you would recommend visiting, apart from Wendy’s that is.

Evil Goddess: Sorry to hear to that your parents don’t let you have a heeler pup (don’t know what one of those is). If you’re ever interested in adding a teddy bear to your menagerie I might be able to help you out.

tarasApprentice:Sorry to hear about your poor hand *warlock pulls some herbs from his pocket and begins to chant
I charge these herbs to aid my spell,
that tarasApprentice will be well,
That by free will that can be blessed,
with total health and happiness,
I ask the Goddess to hear my call,
that it may be correct and for the good of all.
I call upon a breath of wind,
Empowered by the Spirit of Air,
To carry my spell toward my kin,
and gracefully deliver it there.
By all the power of three times three,
this spell bound around shall be,
To cause no harm, nor return on me,
As I do will, So mote it be!
*

Hope it helps easy the pain

Must rush and get some nose bag something to eat..

Take care all!!

EGF Happy Birthday for yesterday and good luck on puppy quest - I think heelers are sweet and I like a dog with purpose. My (purposeless) dog is laying at my feet now pretending to be asleep but in reality keeping a beady eye on Mr L who is drifting ever nearer to the biscuit tin.

Corsa Glad you are safely back - you don't know what you are missing with a Wendy's shake though.

Unholy Warlock Where hast thou been wanderething oh magickal one?

Almond good vibes, good vibes, chocolate, sunshine, calm, happy thoughts {{huggles}}

tarasapp Have you tried taking Arnica - its a homeopathic thing thats good for all kinds of bruising, burns, shock, childbirth (cc. EmilyBoo) etc etc. 'tis marvellous and what the cublets refer to as the magic pill.

EmilyBoo You could also try Echinacea which is a herbal thing which boosts the immune system - I get sinus problems too and it definitely helps but double check about it being ok when pregnant!

I guess I'll go haul girl-child indoors (she's sitting on the front porch with some friends), then read my book for awhile. I've got a copy of "The Ship Who Saved the Worlds" by Anne McCaffrey that's due back at the library on Saturday. I'd do emails, but I'm in too "ranty" a mood. I'd probably drift off into places no one really wants to go. "Here there be dragons!" Night, all!

TV News
'Wonderfalls' Surrenders to Destiny and Seeks a New Home
(Tuesday, April 06 09:30 AM)
By Kate O'Hare

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - It's not an everyday occurrence for shows to find success after changing networks, but it does happen. "JAG" left NBC after one season in 1995-'96 and moved to CBS, where it airs to this day.
After a rocky run at FOX, the comedy "Grounded for Life" has found favor with The WB, as did "Sabrina the Teenage Witch," which jumped to the Frog for three seasons after four on ABC.

Now, "Wonderfalls" hopes it can capture some of that magic. Axed by FOX after airing four original episodes (three on Friday, one last Thursday), the 20th Century Fox Television series from executive producers Bryan Fuller, Todd Holland and Tim Minear is taking its already completed 13 episodes and looking for a new home.

In particular, Fuller has set his sights on weblets The WB and UPN.
"I think the show would make a great companion piece with 'Smallville' on The WB," he says, "and it would also make a great companion piece with 'America's Next Top Model' on UPN.

"It's a critically acclaimed drama. We don't have a lot of that on television right now, so we're hoping we can find a home on another network that will appreciate the show."

Caroline Dhavernas stars in "Wonderfalls" as Jaye Tyler, a twentysomething slacker who works in a Niagara Falls gift shop. She takes her first step into a larger world when animal figurines start giving her cryptic instructions, each of which leads to surprising and unexpected results for Jaye, her friends, family and complete strangers.

While Fuller believes that there was a lack of support for "Wonderfalls" in the upper echelons of FOX and its parent company, News Corp., FOX Broadcasting corporate communications v.p. Scott Grogin asserts, "The decision was entirely Gail Berman's. She is the entertainment president for the network, and the decision was entirely hers."

No doubt influencing Berman's decision was the poor performance of "Wonderfalls" on both Friday -- where it drew an average of 3.8 million viewers -- and Thursday, where an original episode on April 1 (originally scheduled to air Friday, April 2) couldn't even match the Friday numbers against new installments of CBS' "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" and NBC's "The Apprentice."

"It didn't help that TV Guide listed the show as Friday at 9 when it had been moved to Thursday," Fuller adds. "There were a lot of contributing factors that didn't help us."

Although the show had a great deal of critical support, Fuller feels part of the reason for its lackluster showing lay in FOX's marketing strategy.

"This is an edgy romantic comedy," he says, "with a lot of rambunctious humor. That will find an audience, if the audience knows those are the elements in the show. Our audience was always very confused as to what the show was. They were marketing it as 'Felicity' in the beginning, because that's what they wanted it to be, and it's not."

Vowing to continue until "I've been told 'no' by all the networks," Fuller makes his pitch for the show's remaining unaired nine episodes.

"The episode that would have been next week kicks off all the franchise-y, arc-y stuff for the series," he says, "whereas the episodes we've aired to so far have been establishing the scenario.

"The next episode, 'Crime Dog,' kicks it off in a big way. We have Jaye's brother, who learns that she's a little bit crazy, and it starts his arc of becoming the first apostle. We have all sorts of nitty-gritty juiciness with Sharon, the lesbian Republican lawyer sister. We're hoping the tone and scope of these episodes will have a lot of promise for another network and be a tasty little treat to tempt them into picking us up.

"Any of those networks that wants to see those future episodes, just have them drop me a line, and I will send them a DVD or two."

Fuller also reminds his fans (and potential buyers), "The important thing is, we're not dead, we're in ICU."

Hi Rack! It's great to see you made it back safe and sound. There was talk of "abduction", but I knew it couldn't be true. No one as in tune with the dark arts as you are could be held against his will. *g* So did you have a nice trip? How are the folks? Did you bring Teddy back, too? Or did you abandon him in the wilds of Coventry? *s*

tarasApprentice: I'll try to remember to call later. (I've been to the vampire clinic, and I need to go rest awhile.) I'd like to push for the dvds, at least.
I wonder, though, if we'd do better to keep our energies focused on keeping the few good shows we have left on the air. I don't think we have much chance of saving "Angel", in all honesty, and doubt if "Wonderfalls" will fair any better. Maybe we should be sending postcards and the like to the producers of shows like "Joan of Arcadia" - a pre-emptive strike, as it were.

Call Fox President Gail Berman and leave a message for her how much you love Wonderfalls and asking Fox to support the show! The number for Fox is 1-800-369-6848. To reach Gail Berman's office, dial option 2, then 237626 (to spell out Berman).
(I just called and actually spoke to a human woman. She was very nice and said..."You're certainly not the first person to call." She actually sounded kind of surprised people are calling. PLEASE...call. Maybe it actually will help and it certainly can't hurt.

I'm going to ask my parents for one of the heeler pups that will be born any day now to my Dad's friend. They were originally planning to get one, but that was before Brandy showed up and adopted us. Many of you know me for having a menagerie of animals, but I've managed (if that is the word) to narrow it down to a cat. This being a birthday gift I feel as if I have a greater chance of getting a yes, but keep you fingers crossed just in case.

Or at least the Teddy Bear?
Disclaimer - The author of this post is not in any way implying that the Teddy Bear's presence is somehow inferior to that of the warlock. This is an equal opportunity environment. All supernatural (or just plain unusual) beings are treated the same - be they warlocks, talking bears, fire goddesses, minions of said goddesses, imps, dancing goats, magical axes, wiccan apprentices, sacrificial heifers, goat-munching panthers, traveling-weather-affecting corsas, boos, dancing-but-not-in-a-scary-way lords, flying mazzys, ducks, bots of all variety, etc, etc, etc....
On the bright side - we got our cowboy back!

Hi Kung Fu! It's really good to see you again!
See, that's what happens when you don't visit us on a regular basis. It's a well-known fact that spending part of your week in a virtual world where your every desire can become real with a tap of the keyboard helps defuse your frustration with the real world. It has something to do with balancing the chemicals in your brain. Really. I read it in a book. You believe me, right? *eg*
Seriously, though, are you doing ok now?

I may end up giving up on tv completely - well, except for a couple of favorites that have managed to elude the Brigade Of Network Executives Hastily Exiling All Decent Shows. I refuse to settle for nothing but stranger and stranger reality programs, and most sitcoms aren't really very funny. Those seem to be the only things the networks are willing to produce anymore. That's ok - I'll just start buying the dvds of the shows I liked (btw, you could buy "Firefly" if you want to see it *s*), watch movies, and read books. Hey, maybe I'll even venture back outside again. *g* (cc dogtrot, Fire)

dogtrot: Well, if I had a healthier ego, I'd say that we (and I mean that to include all of those who post here *s*) have better taste, higher intelligence, a more discerning sense of humor, and less tolerance for wasting our spare time on mindless drival. But since I have some self-esteem issues, I guess I'll just say we must have bad luck. *g*
LOL at your punny joke. *g*

tarasApprentice: Sending ~~healing vibes~~ for your poor hand. (I'd ask how you hurt it, but then you'd have to type. *s*)
I'll be watching Caroline on Kilborn tonight - that is, if I manage to stay awake that long. Since it's on at midnight here, maybe I'll just tape it. Thanks for the heads up!

Some Wonderfalls chatter (cc tarasApprentice, EmilyBoo, dogtrot, et al.):
I wonder how good our chances are of seeing the show released on dvd? I heard that even though we only got to see four episodes, 13 had been completed. Is that right? Does anyone know if an effort is being made to see that this happens?

EmilyBoo: What? You mean the aroma of freshly steaming elephant poo doesn't make you want to grab a hotdog? You're just strange! *g*

I had something to say about "Bruce Almighty", which I saw for the first time yesterday, but since girl-child wants the computer now, I'll just say - butt monkey! Hee!

And she's gone - don't all sigh with relief at once! *g*

Lionhunter, thanks... I took my daughter to the zoo for the first time yesterday (it was 40 degrees and windy, brrrr) and it wreaked havoc on my sinuses. Not to mention the zoo smells didn't do much for my appetite. But I'm ok. :-) (cc: Almond because I think I forgot to respond to you before.)

When I found out yesterday I wanted to cry. Seriously.

Here's a letter from Caroline Dhavernas:

Dear Wonderfalls fans,

This past year, the lives of the Wonderfalls producers, writers, cast and crew have been dedicated to the making of this series. The truth is, the energy and the long hours we put into this were all worth it: I am so proud of this show.

As you know, we inherited a very tricky time slot that doesn't give us much of a chance to be noticed by a large crowd. However, our faithful viewers seem to be in love, like I am, with Wonderfalls, and understand how witty, different, intelligent, fun and absurd the lives of these characters are, thanks to our brilliant writers.

The reviews have been truly amazing, quite frankly unlike anything I have seen before, but when I learned the ratings weren't so great, I logged on to the website to hear what the fans had to say. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I truly appreciate your incredible support and wonderful words. Your comments made me laugh and gave me the strength to keep faith myself!

Well, hallelujah! What do you know, I guess our prayers were answered! Thursday nights it is! Now, I know it's Ladies Night in many bars, at least in Montreal, my hometown, but LADIES! Be fashionably late!!! And don't hesitate to use the now famous pick-up line from the pilot: " your ass is ringing"...

All my love,
Caroline Dhavernas xxx

She'll be on Craig Kilborn tonight.

Can't be around much. Hand is injured. I'll be watching though *s*

*sniff* I want my Wonderfalls and hey! Where's the Warlock?

Hi all! How is everybody [I mean aside from losing any possible quality viewing on television]? I've been okay I guess except I had to take a week off work to stop myself from killing my boss [not literally but he definitely wasn't my favourite person].

The thing I have seen about all the "new" TV shows currently coming out is that they are all either new shows that are almost identical to everything else on TV or they are clones of shows that have done well elsewhere. Unlike the shows we tend to like which are original. I realise that I have ranted like this before but with the seemingly imminent destruction of Angel and now Wonderfalls [I've never seen it as - along with Firefly - it hasn't been shown in Australia] It seems that the probablity of a new show being original and decent is growing ever slimmer. It seems that the only shows that networks are willing to greenlight is reality tv shows that make people being horrible to each other entertainment.

...end of rant

I just saw the news at Buffistas. Go here to read what Tim Minear had to say about it.

It's now offical - there's nothing on Fox that I care about.
Tru Calling jumped the shark when it brought JP to the show. I watched Thursday's episode and spent the whole hour disliking his character so intensely that I decided not to watch anymore. I still love Eliza, but I'd rather see her in something worth her time and talents.
I don't think I'll start a new show on Fox again. After Firefly and now Wonderfalls, I can't trust them to follow through with the things they start. Why get hooked on something just to have it disappear immediately?

Not really in a "smalltalk" mood today, so instead of responses I'll just send a big hello and {{{hugs}}} to all.

Is everyone planning on doing some site hopping later? *s* I think I'll go pre-register when I leave here to make things easier later.
We got some good news last night! Girl-child's friend is back in town and doing well. (cc tarasApprentice, dogtrot, Fire and Lionhunter)
In other news, Dad's rib seems to be healing. He was using his walker yesterday with very little pain. This makes me wonder if maybe he just pulled a muscle. (The doctor did use the word "probably".)
I finally watched an installment of "American Idol" last night just to see what all the excitement was about. It's hard to judge who the best over-all talent is from just one show, but I liked Jasmine. (I also liked the girl with the cat on her head. *s*) I missed "the hobbit" because I left the room during the commercial. I noticed that Simon seems to be branching out. It's not enough for him to bash the contestants - he's also taking shots at Ryan Seacrest. What's his childhood trauma? Was he picked on as a boy by good-looking, well-dressed kids?

EmilyBoo: Congratulations on "baby-within"! Sending some ~~healing vibes~~ for your sinus infection. I hope you get over it soon.
I'm so sorry your friend's Mom didn't make it! I'll be keeping her in my thoughts. I hope when she's ready, she finds a support group to help her get through this, or at least some friends to talk to. (cc tarasApprentice)

dogtrot: Yeah, give me a pinball machine any day. *g*

Fire: Yay! for soon-to-be-16! (Though for some reason I thought you were older than that.)
Reliable rides are of the good. We're already saving to buy girl-child a decent car when she gets her license. Though if her grades don't improve PDQ, that won't be happening.

Where's Rack? Is he being held hostage in his hometown? Do we need to send out a rescue party to retreive him and Teddy?

A black van pulls up in front of Rack's parent's home. Out leap the Boxer Assault Team, ready to commit mayhem on behalf of our missing warlock. They quickly encircle the abode, and the leader warily approaches the door.
*knock knock knock*
Nice lady answers: "Hello?"
Leader: "Good morning, ma'am. We want our warlock back. We're BATS."
Nice lady: "Yes, I can see that you are!"

Hello all, I've had a rough couple days. I have a sinus infection (trying to get over it without an antibiotic) and T'app already knows the other reason I've not been feeling well. I am expecting my second child. :-)
I certainly did enjoy the cheesy episode of Wonderfalls on Friday. I hope it does well on Thursdays (although in my greed, I wish it would stay on Fridays because I like watching it after JoA.)
And as T'app already mentioned, please say some prayers for our friend who is going through a very rough time with the passing of her mom.

Almond, honey, a reliable ride is the #1 thing all teenagers should have! (yay for being 16, April 6th. It's not the driving I'm happy about, people look down on 15 more than they do 16).

I just wanted to give an update on the situation I spoke of yesterday - her mother passed away. Thank you very much cc: almond for those who said a prayer or passed on the good vibes *s*

It's not just TV and movies - it's the kind of video games so many of the younger people like to play. They make them more and more realistic, then slap a so-called "rating" on them and think that covers it. Listen to the lyrics of some rap music, too. Our society almost worships violence. And yet I don't think these things are entirely the cause of incidents like this. I think our society is going crazy. You watch the news and hear the most horrible things reported almost casually - just another news item sandwiched in between sports and weather. Talk about desensitized! I quit watching the evening news some time ago - it really turns my stomach. I don't believe in censorship, either. I think people are capable of censoring themselves. But children need some guidelines as to what is acceptable behavior. If a parent won't take the time to explain to a child why they object to a certain type of music, find them an alternative interest to violent games, discuss why someone's behavior on a TV show or movie is morally wrong, who's to blame if the child grows up without the ability to value human life? People have children without really realizing the commitment they're making to shaping a life. Even in two parent families, they both need to work to keep afloat in today's economy. No one is watching out for the children anymore. I've taken a lot of flak from people because I choose to stay home and care for my family. I may not be the best mother on earth (I screw up plenty, believe me!) but at least I know what's going on in my kid's life, even if that means we live from paycheck to paycheck most weeks.
I don't know how relevant this is to this discussion, but everytime I hear about something like this I think about a study I read about once. Some scientists were trying to determine how overcrowding effected society. They put a lot of rats in a small enclosed space and observed their behavior. The rats went crazy. Do you think our territorial aggressions are erupting in violence because the world is just too darn crowded?

How scarey what happened in your neighborhood. It's always frightening when you encounter real violence. People say we become desensitized to violence because we watch it on TV. But when it happens for real it's very disturbing. Although I have to wonder about the perpetrators of this act; were they the ones who were desensitized? Maybe people who are prone to this type of thing in the first place are desensitized by the media. I just don't know the answer to this. I just hope they don't censor my media.

tarasApprentice: I'm very sorry to hear that. I'll keep your friend and her mother in my thoughts and prayers.
That's an interesting campaign idea! I like the thought that a children's hospital will benefit from it, too. *s*

Fire: Girl-child already leads a much more restricted life than most fifteen-year-olds. She isn't even allowed out at night unless she has a reliable ride.
We got some good news yesterday, btw. It seems the boy is expected to pull through after all. He's on some medication to disolve a blood clot in his brain, and if all goes well will be transferred to a local hospital soon.
It turns out the incident may have been gang-related. The boy's girlfriend's ex is a member of one of the local "societies for the intellectually challenged". Hubby and I were seriously talking about moving, but realized it would be impossible until my Dad is settled in a better situation.

Lionhunter: Hooray for paychecks! Spend it all already? *g*
The cake didn't happen. We decided on some "shopping therapy" instead. There was a pink skirt at the mall calling girl-child's name.

I had the fun of seeing hubby enjoy the season 3 BtVS episode "Homecoming" this weekend. (It was one he hadn't seen yet.) Watching this eppy, it struck me how friendly Buffy and Faith had become at this point. Working out together in the library, talking about Buffy's disappointment over Scott, making plans to go to the dance together, and the wonderful way Faith stood up for Buffy (in her own rather "in your face" way) at the dance when she approached Scott and his date. What went wrong between them?
I know what happened, but why did Faith turn her back on that relationship when things went bad? At the end of "Revelations" she tells Buffy her experience with the false watcher Gwendolyn Post reminded her she "can't trust people", but by "Amends" their relationship had again improved. Not only was Buffy happy to see her when she showed up on Christmas Eve, Faith stayed at the house to protect Joyce when Buffy had to leave. "Bad Girls" may have shown Buffy sliding down the path to the dark side of a Slayer's nature, but from Faith's point of view they were bonding and closer than ever.
In "Consequences" Faith's personality took a severe turn for the worse as she struggled to suppress her guilt over killing Allen, but that doesn't explain why she was so quick to shift the blame for that act to Buffy. Did she feel so betrayed at the thought that Buffy might "rat her out"? That would argue a depth of feeling for Buffy that was born out in a later scene when she saved Buffy's life, even though she was already a fugitive on the run from Buffy's "group" - i.e. the Watcher's Council. Did she blame Buffy for Allen's death hoping to put her on the same footing as herself, thereby bringing them back to their former closeness? Yet she seemed to reject her ties to Buffy. She saved her life, then immediately joined the Mayor's camp, as if afraid to allow herself to feel close to anyone. Was it that same "can't trust people" attitude that drove her to the side of evil?
I'm going to be watching with these thoughts in mind as my local station shows the rest of this season. I think their relationship was more about love than hate, even if they did become bitter enemies. And can I just say "Thank Joss!" for reconciling them before the series ended!

From the people who brought you "Flowers for Levin", comes a new campaign that we hope will be just as successful with the help of all you "Angel" fans out there.
We knew you wanted another campaign, so we listened to all of your ideas, thoughts, and concerns; addressed our own issues, did lots of searching, e-mailing, and even placed phone calls to several places (including the WB Public Relations department), and have come up with the following....

April 7th, 2004
(Orders MUST be placed by March 31st)
B.B.'s for Ancier.
(b.b.'s = Beanie Babies)

This is our new target:
Mr. Garth Ancier, Chairman WB network
4000 Warner Blvd
Building 34R
Burbank, CA 91522
1-818-977-5000

Why Garth Ancier?
We decided to set our sites on Mr. Ancier as he is higher up than Mr. Levin, but still within the television division of the WB network. If we go any higher on the chain, we felt there is the risk that they simply will be to far up to feel us yanking it.

Why Beanie Babies?
When ideas were being thrown about on the WB "Angel" board, several people mentioned stuffed bears. Beanie Babies simply evolved from there. They have a wide price range (many being under $10, a lot less than the flowers which was a concern), many types to choose from (angels, bats, Irish themes (in honor of Angel's heritage), even a "slayer" dragon.
We really wanted to do something that again, could be passed along for a good deed as well.

*****

I already checked the folks running the campaign did plenty of legwork so don't worry - the stuff we send does NOT get thrown away, yes it DOES get to the person we're sending it to AND will, in the end probably be donated to a children's hospital, just like the flowers campaign. The WB reps said yes - they really are taking notice.

I found beanie on the list for only 3 dollars - c'mon - skip your starbucks and buy a beanie to save Angel!!

Hey all. I know this is kind of a strange thing to ask for someone none of you know but I'm asking you all anyway. A girl I know, emilyboo knows her as well, really could use our thoughts and prayers - her mother tried to commit suicide and is currently in the hospital and the doctors are saying she pretty much has zero chance of survival. Please consider saying a prayer for this wonderful girl and her mother. I would appreciate it more than I can say. Thanks *s*

I'm a little...not real sure what word to use here. Maybe "unsettled". Yesterday I would have said "angry" - that vague, directionless anger that tends to lash out at the wrong people because it doesn't have a better target in reach.
Two of my daughter's male friends were beat up by a group of boys in the parking lot of a store just a few blocks from here on Friday night. They used bricks and baseball bats. One of the injured boys was flown to the Milwaukee trauma center and may not make it. This happened just because he was dating the ex-girlfriend of one of the boys in the group. The other one was hurt trying to stop them.
I feel so sorry for these two boys and their families, but more than that I'm frightened for my daughter. She and a friend had been there talking to them just moments before it happened. They were driving away when they got the phone call telling them what was going on, and arrived back in time to see the group running away. My daughter knew three of them from school and identified them to the police.
It frightens me that she could have been there but for chance - and knowing her she would have jumped in to help her friend. It frightens me that she goes to school with people who would do something like this - and knows them well enough to know their names. It frightens me that it happened at the store we buy our groceries from in our very neighborhood. But I guess what frightens me most is the fact that this group didn't think anything of doing this to another human being - just get mad and go straight for the baseball bat.
This kind of thing may be common to those of you who live in bigger cities. To me this is a world-shaking event. When I was a teenager, I never had to worry about being killed by a classmate. I could walk anywhere in this town at night without worrying about being jumped. Now I just want to lock my daughter in her room until she's 18 - or hire a bodyguard to follow her around. I despair of the world. We're supposed to be civilized - what the hell is happening to humanity?

If anyone's around, I wouldn't be adverse to hearing a friendly voice.

Dogtrot: Thank you for the link - it worked just fine. I almost allowed myself to be sucked into one of the thread discussions, but resisted just in time. (I'll bet you can guess which one if you think about it.)
I don't doubt the outlook is bleak for "Wonderfalls". I counted four religions skewered in Friday's episode. I thought it was hilarious.
I must have been wrong about the "out of order" comment, though. If you pay attention to the talking critters Jaye's collecting, you can see that each episode so far has followed the other in progression. (cc tarasApprentice)

tarasApprentice: Is that a permanent change in timeslot? It should help a lot! That makes me happier. I thought "Tru Calling" was great this week, btw. Best episode this season since the "do-over-and-over day", in fact.
So did you pick a slogan for your sign?
You aren't the only "cheesy" one. That was one "cheesy" Wonderfalls episode on Friday, wasn't it? *s*

Fire: I was just poking a little fun at girl-child, but we really have had conversations like that. None of the "Kyles" are romantic interests - just friends. She sure seems to know a lot of them, though. I come up with little "identifying tags" to tell them apart. So far we have Kyle-who-stopped-by-once, Kyle-who-works-at-the-grocery-store and Kyle-who-you-said-has-a-cute-butt. (That one really disturbs hubby. He doesn't admit she's old enough to be noticing things like that.)
Sneaky salad dressing! I forgot about that!

Gothic: Your "pillar box red" sounds a bit like our "Coke can red" that was very popular here a few years back. I did my hair something close to that color for awhile, but I had to give it up. I liked the color when I first put it on, but as you probably know red dye tends to fade. After a few washings my hair was mauve! Now I use a very nice "Willow red" that I'm very happy with.
Donkey=ass (as in mule). I was trying to be both clever and inoffensive at the same time. *s*

Rack: Thank you for the article link. I'm just as glad she won't be on if it meant rewriting the planned script. It's too bad they didn't know earlier, but that's life. I am glad to hear (spoiler for upcoming Ats) * that they plan on addressing the Angel/Buffy/Spike triangle. Do you suppose she's done baking? *s* *
I still want to discuss "Warrior's Apprentice" with you, though maybe I should do it in emails so as not to bore people who have no interest in the book. Oh! Remember that I mentioned I was looking for a collection of short stories that had one of Bujold's "Miles" stories in it? Guess what I bought yesterday? Almond does the "I'm so happy 'cause I've got a new book dance". I'm going to read it later today. *s*
Did you have a nice trip?

Hello and {{hugs}}, all! No time to post tonight. :(
Just popped in to drop off something I found at the Beta:

Buchanan says:
(Fri Mar 26 00:49:13 2004)

Hi, Chris Buchanan here from Mutant Enemy. Long time lurker, first time poster.

Thought it was about time (OK, it's way past time), to give all of the ANGEL fans an enormous shout out/thank you directly from Joss and all of us at Mutant Enemy.

Your kind words, support and efforts (flowers, beanie babies, postcards, mobile billboards, adverts, etc., etc.) in the weeks since the cancellation of ANGEL was announced, have been darn near overwhelming. We really, really appreciate the love.

It goes without saying here at the Bronze Beta, but I also wanted to let you all know that the Buffy/Angel-verse will never die.

While we consider the possibility of Season 6 of ANGEL as remote as the discovery of WMDs in Iraq, Mutant Enemy already has plans for more tales from the world of ANGEL. I can't comment on exactly what form they'll take, but rest assured, it's in the works.

Thanks again to all of the fans, the "Save Angel" organizations, and your efforts taken in our behalf.

You kids are the best!

Buchanan

Nice to know the efforts are appreciated, at least!

budwiser.com is supposed to have some alternate versions of the Wonderfalls music video if you wanna check it out, plus an interview with Caroline (Jaye). I don't have time to see them but if anyone does let me know.

Have a Wonderfalls night (I know I'm so cheesy)

Almond walks into the Magic Box looking over her shoulder at the fairly odd sight glimpsed before entering. She knows it's not likely, but she swears she just saw the goat and the panther driving down the street in a shiny new convertible - back seat piled high with purchases. Hmmm......

My day started out with a bang. Hubby and I got to take Dad to the emergency room. He broke a rib coughing last night.

Lionhunter: I'll join you on the sofa for a short while. I brought ho-hos. Almond produces a box of chocolatey goodness from her jacket pocket. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for the cheese, if I were you. *g*
If people don't identify themselves correctly on the phone, it's their own fault things become mangled. I haven't had the bad fortune to annoy a lord, but I've annoyed the resident "princess" at our house more than once. Example:

Me: Kyle called while you were gone.
Her: Which Kyle?
Me: He just said "Kyle". I assumed you'd know. (In my defense, I'd like to mention here that most of the males who call my daughter are so reluctant to talk to a parent that it's hard enough getting a first name.)
Her: Mom! (Imagine the long, drawn-out sound a teen-ager makes signifying you're an idiot.) I know six different Kyles! How am I supposed to know which one to call back!?!
Me: Well, which is most likely to be calling?
Her: Any of them! (Again, I'm clearly an idiot.)
Me: Why don't you just start calling "Kyles" until you get the right one?
Her: I can't do that! (Once again, idiot.)
Me: Why not?
Her: You wouldn't understand! (I may be wrong, but I think I've just been up-graded to moron.)
Me: Then I'd suggest you tell your friends to leave a last name from now on.

Rack: I'm so very glad you seem to be liking the book! I think Miles may be my favorite hero of any book I've read. I have more to say about "WA", but I'll do that a little later. (If I get started now, I'll never get to the rest of my responses. Or dinner. Or the eternal housework. Or......*g*)
Where hubby works, he's required to take a full week of vacation in one block, but the other two weeks can be taken a day at a time. I think he just loses anything he doesn't use by the end of the year, though. It's nice that you're visiting your folks. If you can't think of anything to say, you can always sit around eating and smiling at each other. *g*
I don't deny that Teddy of yours is capable of cheating at cards, but......where would he hide the extra aces? No sleeves! *g*

Fire: Beware of the sneaky dairy products, too. Things like cream cheese, sour cream, and yogurt are often hidden in a sauce or easy to forget about. It's amazing how many different dishes prove to have a cheese or cream sauce base when you have to start looking for that sort of thing. I think I pretty much survived on tuna, applesauce and toast with margarine when my diet was restricted.

Gothic: Your hair sounds lovely! I wish I was daring enough to do something like that with mine! (Btw - if that's not daring, what is? *g*)
It may be that the brigadier wanted more "sir, yes sir!" rather than objecting to the way you pronounced things. Your boss sounds like a nice person - he seems to appreciate that what really matters is how well you do the job as a whole. Don't let the infrequent (I hope it's infrequent!) pain-in-the-donkey get you down! {{Hugs!}}

Dogtrot: Which "Wonderfalls" site did you see that at!?! I looked at the site tarasApprentice posted a link for and didn't find it. What do they know that we don't!?!

Must run for now. I have to:
1. Brush cat hair off furniture.
2. Vacuum rugs.
3. Build new cat with all the gathered hair.
4. Make weekly budget and grocery list.
5. Feed various dependents.
6. Watch "Tru Calling".

Might be back later.

gothicwoman Glad your hair is happy hair! I told my hairdresser that I want mine streaked like Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast At Tiffany's and now I have to wait until she's seen the film before I can get it coloured. As for the Brigadier - years ago I answered the phone at work and a man asked for my boss. When I said that he wasn't there and could I take a message, he replied "tell him its Cardigan!" gave a number and put the phone down. I gave my boss the message and he rang and asked for Mr Cardigan - it was actually Lord Cardigan. My boss went mad at me. Stupid men and their stupid jumped up titles!

Rack and teddy Travel safely and have a good time. Teddy - don't forget that a layer of tissue between each cookie keeps them crispy fresh and crumb free.

Almond, EmilyBoo and tarasapp I am firmly embedded on the sofa of denial awaiting your good selves and I've sent the panther to buy cheese. He's taken the goat and my credit card - should I worry? Can we also have chocolate on the sofa - its a dairy product....right???

A faint rumbling sound, a little like the noise that your stomach makes when you’ve gone to work without breakfast erm..where was I, Oh yes..rumbling soundgives way to a blinding flash of light that radiates throughout the Magic Box for the briefest of seconds. There standing at the of the illuminations epicentre is a figure dressed in black and wearing a leather trench coat, also black. His eyes (not black) dart to and fro as he makes his way to the darkness (well that’s kinda black) under the stairs. He looks at the mini fridge and thinks to himself “Been so long, so long, so long”…

Almond: Here’s my initial thoughts on “Warriors Apprentice” as I mentioned I’m only a third of the way into the book and Miles has just captured the mercenaries ship after they jumped into Tau Verde local space and the mercenaries had tried to take Elena as a hostage.
Miles does seem to be more my kind of lead character. He has a medical condition (something a bit like brittle bones) and is a little on the short side. Despite these..erm..short comings he still tried to follow in the family tradition and join the military services – however he failed when he broke his legs on the obstacle course. This shows that he is a plucky little fellow and has a strong sense of pride in and loyalty to his family. He also doesn’t appear to give up easily. He does exhibit a softer side to his character later on when he feels genuine remorse of the killing of the mercenaries’ shuttle pilot. The fact that it was he who gave Sergeant Bothari the okay to torture him shows that he is also capable of doing what needs to be done, no matter how unpleasant. The story does appear to have deviated from the path that I thought that it was taking. I thought that the adventures would centre around Miles’ attempts to discover the somewhat murky mystery of the mother of sergeant Bothari’s daughter Elena, whom is Miles’ romantic interest. But his contact with Arde Mayhew and his subsequent taking on ownership of a somewhat old and out of date cargo jump ship has taken the story into an apparent different direction. Of the other characters, Bothari is a sort of typical strong silent military type who’s very useful to have around in a fight. I suspect that there’s more to him than meets the eye and just what is it about his daughter Elena’s origin that is such a secret. Arde Mayhew the pilot and his jump ship are both the worst for wear. He, when not suffering from the effects of his creme de menthe
stimulant, is a perfectly good pilot and you get the feeling that he lives to fly and flies to live. Baz, the former jump ship engineer who deserted the armed services, has the chance to redeem himself by helping Miles and his weapons cargo bound for Felice. In fact he impressed Elena when, unarmed, he rushed a mercenary armed with a blaster. Elena herself is a bit of a dark horse whom we not really know much about, save for the fact that Miles and herself have know each other since childhood and she appears to be able to look after herself in a situation.
As I said I’m only about a third of the way through and I’m curious to see how Miles jaunt to Felice fits in to the whole scheme of things.

My two days of is out of my normal allotted annual leave entitlement. I haven’t taken any days of yet and could do with a bit of a rest. Once I went six months with just two half days of and ended up not being able to use up all my holiday entitlement so they (my employers) brought three days of me. I also get pestered that I don’t phone or visit my parents enough. I’ve only ‘phoned once this year and that was to tell them that I’m coming to scrounge food visit for a few days.

I suspect that teddy probably did win the cookies at cards. He does have a cookie allowance but I have a feeling that he supplements it somehow. I wouldn't put it past him to cheat at poker…can’t think where he would get that from though…

Gothic: Sorry, I obviously miss the post where you said that you had dropped out of your midwifery course. AP = Analyst Programmer. I assume teddy meant the addition of an E at the end to mean Extraordinary. If not then I know one little teddy bear who isn’t going to have “Charmed” taped for him!! Anyway good luck with the new job and I hope that it become permanent and I hope that the streaky hair works out for you. What colour/colours did you go for in the end?

Lionhunter: Obviously “going to the pub” was the highlight of the week as there was no new Angel episode for your daughter to watch.
There’s no need to concern yourself with teddy’s heath and fitness. I ensure that he is kept on a strict fitness regime by giving him plenty of jobs to do. To the casual observer it may appear that I’m exploiting the poor little teddy but I really have his best interests at heart…Rack silently wonders to himself if anyone actually believes that.

tarasApprentice: There was something that I forget to ask you. In the blurb prior to JPL’s performance on American Idol they mentioned that he was a medical student studying to be a paediatrician and that he works in a nursery (the plant kind…was he mislead by the job advertisement I wonder). But I didn’t hear anything about pen salesman. Was this something they mentioned that he once did on a previous show?

Well it’s a day early, but I know that you’d hate for there not to be one at all. So here’s Rack’s Track of the week

As summer is almost here, this weeks offering is Snegurochka (The Snow maiden) by Rimski-Korsakov. Okay, it’s an opera, so not technically a track, but who cares.

This is a wondrous tale adapted from the play by Ostrovsky and centres around the offspring of Grandfather Frost and Bonny Spring. The Snow maiden has a heart of ice and despite seeking to feel human love, is unable to reciprocate. That is until her mother imbues her with the power of human love. As you may expect by her name, the snow maiden must avoid the rays of the sun and our story meets with a tragic ending upon the maiden’s wedding day to the besotted Mizguir.

Rimsky-Korsakov considered this his best opera and epitomises the world of Russian fairy-tale and folk-lore that the composer loved and made famous in many of his works. It is a lyrical and poetic work, rich in romantic nature imagery. There are many musical descriptions of nature, sounds of a cock and bullfinch for instance, and allusions to authentic folk music. The opera is based on a play by Alexander Ostrovsky called Snegurochka, which is the name of the Snow Maiden herself. The composer wrote his own libretto and the work was premiered in 1880, with a revised version appearing in 1895 as Rimsky-Korsakov felt that the original was too long.

Teddy…I don’t call twelve boxes of cookies and one pair of socks packing. You’ll have to start again…

See you all soon

Take care all!!!!!!!!

TarasApp, Almond and Lionhunter - hullo! i had streaks put in - decided on plum, bright red and brown in the end. it's not as daring as i was hoping for, but it still looks quite nice. i also had a couple of long layers put in to take some of the weight off and she blow-dryed it straight for me. i'm gonna try doing it straight myself but i bet it won't look so good!

Almond - i dont feel very important today! ive had a horrible morning, some snooty brigadier told my boss i was too casual on the phone - grr! if they want me to speak better, they should pay for bloody elocution lessons! my boss was fine about it though, although i was a bit p'ed off! toffee noses!

I missed that conversation. I'm just hoping it's not true. Iwas at the WonderFalls site and someone was starting a petition to ask Fox not to cancel it! How can this be? It's a great show and it's just getting started...Noooo!

Just realized girl-child got out of school 2 hours ago and isn't home yet. Have to get offline so she can call (as I'm sure she's been trying to do for quite some time now *g*). Later.

The alien was healed. He told the people of Earth to get over themselves, or the planet would be cleared to build a super-galactic freeway. (Wait - that was a different story! *g*) Then he and his robot buddy flew away in their teacup and saucer. The end.

Mazzy: You are the Supreme Font of All Things Saving Angel! Thank you.
LOL at your "I'll squint my eyes..." comment re: "Scooby Doo 2"!
Re: your conversation with Lionhunter about possible "visitors" to the "Angel" set - I'd really rather Joss didn't make major script changes at this late date just to accomadate surprise guests. (Aren't they done shooting by now, btw?) I love SMG and AH, but I'd rather see the story continue to flow in the planned vein than become disjointed by trying to give SMG a big enough part to justify having her appear. (Though I agree with you - I'd really love to see Xander one last time...*g*)
I hope this isn't true, but Allyson at the Beta said they're already striking the sets. :(

tarasApprentice: I'm really looking forward to "Serenity", too. There was so much more of that story to tell. We usually don't go to the theatre to see a movie, but I'll make an exception for Joss! *g*
I didn't mean to start a political debate at the Magic Box. Certain topics just wind me up. I should wear a sign that says, "Don't push my buttons". (cc Dogtrot: Would you like one of my signs? *g* Thanks for the support!)
Speaking of signs - how about a simple "Don't stake Angel!"

Dogtrot and tarasApprentice: I think new shows should have an automatic clause in their contracts that they must be shown in the order the writers meant them to be viewed. What's the point otherwise?
Hope this isn't true, or if it is it doesn't effect the success of "Wonderfalls". You hang out at the Beta, Dogtrot. Do you remember that conversation?

Lionhunter: I wouldn't dream of tempting you. Mwuhahahaha!
Seriously, I don't know about Betty Ford, but I hear they treat ho-ho ho's at Jenny Craig! *eg*
Don't get me started! The things I could tell you about my girls embarrassing me in public......

EmilyBoo: Lackey's written quite a few new Valdemar books in the last couple of years. Go here if you'd like a list.
I particularly liked the series when she started telling Elspeth's story. I found the Tayledras fascinating. Loved Need - especially after she "woke up". Really liked the gryphons. I also liked the change from foes to friends regarding the Karsites and the way she had the very different cultures work together for the common good. The "cats" were great!
I've been pestering Rack for some time now to read one of Bujold's sci-fi books - "Warrior's Apprentice". You should be treated to a partial review soon, according to his familiar.

Almond sees tarasApprentice's question and shuffles her foot while her head hangs low. Uh...I type slow. She neglects to mention that she got delayed drooling over books at the site she found for EmilyBoo.

emily see?! you have bookish kindred spirits here! Thanks for posting excerpts from Kristin - that's sort of sad and even makes me wanna give up - a little. But I won't I'm not a giver upper. What did I think of AI? Amy rocked the show last night. I thought John was delightful - that was a perfect song for him. I though JPL's performance was lovely - when he was done I said "Oooh pretty!" but he didn't blow me away (as Randy likes to say). Everyone else was sucky (JPL refrence). I think Jennifer or Camille will go tonight. I was irked by what I interpreted as a rude and bad attitude from Fantasia and Jennifer. What did you think?

I invite the trio of you to join me on the sofa of denial where we can console each other in the delight of that miracle known to all as "cheese."

Lionhunter, you're welcome... I was kind of saddened to hear that quote from David as well. I will gladly join you in your delusion.
Almond, so far, "Chalion" is the only Bujold I have read. I had "Paladin of souls" from the library a while back, but it was during a very busy time and I didn't have time to get very far into it before having to return it. I have read all the Valdemar books except any that have come out in the past two or three years... I stopped keeping track of them. And yes, I forgot to mention Lackey's bard books as well! I love them!
tarasapprentice, I'll have to look into getting "The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents" from the library. Oh, and what did you think of AI last night? I thought it wasn't one of pen salesman's best performances, but he was much better than some of the others. I think Amy did great last night.

Almond I used to be a major league spoiler "ho" but I am well and truly on the wagon now...I hope you aren't going to tempt me! Do they treat spoiler ho's at Betty Ford?

gothicwoman Hope the hair goes well. I seriously need mine colouring - today at work someone picked up a strand of my hair and said "oh look, you've got paint in your hair" before we both realized that it was just a strand of bleached out, dried out hair...how embarassing.

EmilyBoo Thanks for posting the stuff from EOnline...but I hate to hear that DB is sounding resigned, let alone happy!!!! I'm going to delude myself that he is just putting on a brave face.

Mazzy Thanks for update on SaveAngel. I'm with you - I would love to see Xander back one more time - and Giles.

Rack's Teddy Step away from the cookies - I've seen what cookie bloat looks like in a teddy bear - and it ain't pretty! Call this an intervention li'l buddy.

Went to Parent/Teacher conference today for all three cublets. I have the proud distinction of being the mother of a 4 year old, who when asked to write about the highlight of her weekend - put "We went to the Pub". Got distracted, and started watching "The Day the Earth Stood Still" with hubby. (He's been going through a classic sci-fi phase lately.) The visiting alien said, "I'm impatient with stupidity." Maybe I should send a copy of this flick to the state capital. *eg*

I just noticed something odd. In my post from last Friday, I forgot to put in the quote. Oh, well, feel free to visualize your favorite in the space provided! *g*

Lionhunter: Do you, by any chance, read spoilers? *eg*

Very Important Gothicwoman: Your new job sounds great! Just the kind of thing that could take you places. Do you get along well with your new boss? (In other words, is he reasonable? *g*) Here's hoping you're made permanent!
So what did you decide to do with your hair? Inquiring Almonds and tarasApprentices want to know! *g*

Hi Fire! How's the dairy-free diet coming?

EmilyBoo: Well, I'm sure your hubby has many other fine and redeeming qualities. Poor thing! *g*
Bujold! Bujold! I love her! I really liked "The Curse of Chalion". Have you read her other fantasy novels? ("The Spirit Ring" and "Paladin of Souls") I've been waiting to get hold of my library's copy of "Paladin of Souls" for awhile now.
How far did you get with Lackey's "Valdemar" series? They got much better as they went along, imo. If you like fantasy, have you read her "Bard" books? Elves in LA - great fun! *s*

Rack's Teddy Bear: Did you win those cookies in the card game? Please tell me I wasn't imagining that!
So Rack's off work for a few days? Something special going on, or just a well-deserved rest? Tell him I'm looking forward to his thoughts on "Warrior's Apprentice". *s*

They just shot the alien for being different and therefore frightening. Got to catch the end of this. I'll be back when the movie's over.

Hi again, all! Thought I'd post some tidbits I just read on Kristin's chat transcript from eonline. This chat took place on Monday night. Here goes:

From beebee: Got any good news about Angel?
Oh, how I wish I did. I haven't heard any promising rumblings from the networks. And I ran into David Boreanaz the other night at a charity event at the Beverly Hilton (the Genesis Awards presented by the Humane Society), and he's, well, he's accepting that it's time to move on...

From angllverhe21: What did David say?!
Simmer down now, pup! He was a doll, actually. He was there with wife Jaime Bergman. He's extremely sympathetic for us fans, but truth be told, I haven't seen him looking so happy and rested since the show began. Sleep becomes him! Anyway, here's what he said about the cancellation:

"It's a bittersweet kind of thing. I feel bad for the fans because they have been so supportive throughout the years of the show and characters. But it's a real interesting time for me right now, and I'm really looking forward to new challenges. It's a new transition for me. We're in a really good place, so I feel happy that the show is coming full circle, but I do feel for the fans. The fans are so great. They've been so great to us. But it's time to start a whole new journey."

Unfortunately, we didn't have much time to chat (it was a charity event, and he was being whisked away), but he did let on what's next for him. "You know," he said with a big grin, "right now, Jaime and I are going to take off to a beach. We are going to take a nap--a long nap [Looks at Jaime. Starts chuckling.] And not worry about the alarm clock waking us up."

From smartassblond16: Is Sarah Michelle Gellar coming on Angel?
We asked her precisely that at the end of an interview for Scooby-Doo 2 over the weekend, and she literally said, "I don't know" and got up and moved to the next outlet. Humph. Clearly, she's not at liberty to talk about it--which I'm guessing means she's in.

From seba_88: I'm hearing the Save Angel campaign hit CNN! It's amazing! The WB just can't turn down the show!
Really? That's fantastic!

...that our favorite Warlock quoted Alice *s*

almond I am thrilled to hear that "Serenity" has been green lighted. Thanks for the info!
I can't believe about them showing Wonderfalls epis out of order - doesn't anyone over there have any common sense?? I am now officially irked. Still love the show - I watched the episode twice and liked it better the second time around. Don't even get me started on the Gay marriage topic - frankly every argument I have seen from the "boys and girls club" are illogical and inhuman.

gothicwoman by the time this is posted you have probably already gotten you hair done. What color did you do? I'd suggest blue or hot pink myself but would that be okay to do at your job? I really need to do something with my hair soon...

mazzy thanks so much for posting all the info on the campagin. I will definately be there on the 31st. I was thinking I should make a sign - does anyone have any slogan ideas? Please help!
I won't be going to see Scooby in the theatres but am looking forward to seeing it when it comes out on dvd - it's great to see Buffy people together! Any news on the exact release date for James Marsters' film?

emily and mazzy That book seems to have such a huge following, in my opinion this is just the thing to catapult Amber Tamblyn into that bonafide "star"/ household name status.

emily thanks for sharing you literary interests. Don't worry about the "young adult" titles - I read a great deal of them and I actaully sepnd more time in the kids section of the bookstore than any other. I just finished reading "The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents" which was absolutely wonderful.

everyone I know mazzy already said it but for those of you who can don't forget, tonight is Wednesday - call in during Angel's regular timeslot in your area and let them know you had to watch something else instead!

Guess it's spring in Wisconsin. [/snerk]

Firefly News: According to TV Guide:
Prepare for takeoff: Joss Whedon's long-rumored Firefly feature film is finally airborne. Universal has green-lit the project titled "Serenity", which will be released in 2005 and picks up six months after the short-lived Fox series left off. The show's original crew will all be back when shooting begins in June.

Also, Sarah Michelle Gellar is going to be a "guest-voice" on "The Simpsons" this coming Sunday.

Regarding a possible virus: I sent an email to everyone on my contact list because I received two notices that an email coming from my address was undeliverable due to a virus in the attachment. Not only did I not send these emails, I didn't even recognize the addresses they were sent to. So if anyone gets an email for "me" with an attachment - delete it! (cc Dogtrot, Mazzy)

Responses:

tarasApprentice: I watched the second "Wonderfalls", and I'm still full of liking. * I was a little disappointed that the talking critters seemed to be less main-story-element and more background-prop, since I thought Jaye's conversations with them were hysterical. I thought she made a rather rapid transition from "Oh, God! Am I crazy?" to "OK, fine. I'll do what you want." Then I read something at the Beta, and it all fell into place. Someone said they are doing the same thing to "Wonderfalls" that they did to "Firefly" - showing the episodes out of order. This upsets me if true, since I think doing this negates the slow build-up necessary to the storyline and developement of Jaye's motivation for going along with this fairly odd addition to her lifestyle. Did Mr. Minear learn nothing from working on "Firefly"?
I was very glad to see the lack of heavy-handed gay jokes.
* I can't really speak coherently on this subject. I'm so angry with Wisconsin's state Ass_embly right now for behaving like scared sheep I can't even begin to tell you! They are jumping on the "ban gay marriage bandwagon" and trying to pass a constitutional amendment making it recognized as only between a "man and a woman". The supporters of this say they are "protecting the sanctity of marriage" because "it is the basis of our family structure and society". Hello? Have they seen the statistics on the divorce rate? What kind of message does this send to the children being raised in any alternative "family" situation? Besides, it's really all about fear and exclusivity. "You are different - you can't belong to our club!" If they were really interested in the "sanctity of marriage", etc, etc, they would support gay marriage. Gay couples are having children whether they are married or not. A recognized marriage not only protects these children in the event of divorce, it might be an incentive to help the union last, thus promoting a stable society.
Our society is taking a big step backwards with this. What happened to civil rights? I thought it was against the law in this country to discriminate based on "age, gender, race, religion, or sexual orientation. Isn't it? Or does that only count for jobs and housing? Gah!

If I've offended anyone, I'm sorry. All I can say is "Wake up and smell the prejudice".

Dogtrot: I apologize to poets everywhere. But I still like your verse! *g*

LotD: What flavor was the taffy? *g* Hope the knee is doing better!
Aren't you going to Vegas soon for the writer's thingy? Is the family coming with? Want to put a dollar on 13 black for me? *eg*

Due to the unscheduled rant, this got too big for one post. More later......

PHEW! Lot's of stuff happening in the Saving Angel Campaign. Thank Goodness!
Hopefully we'll make a bit of difference.

Congrats to The Magic Box and T'app for the affiliation with the Wonderfalls site.
Looks good.

Happy Belated (WAY Belated) Birthday to Lionhunter May your future (and not mine *g*) have Bangel.

Fire I like JPL! Some people think I'm insane, but I don't care! Jon is cool, cute and fun. Whether or not he wins AI, I
can't say, but he makes it entertaining for me.

Hey gothic I know, we don't get to be all chatty anymore! I wish I had an interesting life
to e-mail you about, but sadly, it is a bit dull! Well, at least I've my health. I'm glad to hear your new job is going well.
I know what you mean about being "nice" LOL I work with customers all day long in my job and it took some getting
used to--making sure I don't say anything snarky or rude (hee hee).

Almond Thanks for the clarification on Wonderfalls "bellboy" scene. That bellboy looked like he was 14 IMHO.

T'app I enjoyed that letter from Tim Minear. He's cool. Wonderfalls is cool and I'm hearing a lot of people (even
non Buffy/Angel people) talk about it! Yeah! Now if they put it on Tuesdays at 8, I'd be happy but that's the AI timeslot. Hmmm...

Almond Yesterday I got a spam from you about the Spuff/Bangel comparison thing. Today I got a spam saying that you
may have a virus? Yikes! Is everything okay (and don't send it to me! LOL).

Rack G N' R and now the Stones? Wow, you DO have good taste!

T'app I miss Buffy a lot too. Grr. I got to watch "Surprise" recently. What a great eppy.
I just love Buffy with that Rocket Launcher and the judge says "What does that do?" as Angel and Dru run for cover.
And afterward, Oz points down and says "arm". That was Joss at his finest!

LOTD Van Helsing does look REALLY good. I saw previews in the theater and love the make-up. The way the
vamps and wolves look, so unique and different. And hey, Hugh "friggin'" Jackman! Yum!

Fire & T'app Yep that is MT in the Trapt video. She is dating the lead singer Chris.

EmilyBoo Hi! I hear they are making a movie of the "Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants" book (I so want to read that) and
Amber Tamblyn (JOA) is supposed to star (cc: T'app) BTW, you guys do realize that
Amber Tamblyn played Dawn's friend Janice on a Buffy ep? The season 6 Halloween ep.

Lionhunter I think there may be truth to that rumor about SMG and Aly Hannigan. At least SMG. One of the problems
to her appearing is that she was in Japan filming a movie (The Grudge) but that has wrapped. I'm SURE they could fit in Aly for an ep
if they need to. It's not like she's in the play EVERY day, right? And they have filmed in Merry Old England before. It would fit with
some things they've brought up recently. God I hope it happens. An interview I read with MT recently made it seem like she had a full
plate though and wasn't thinking of returning. I'd rather have Nic Brendon back anyway! Give me the scoobs! *crosses fingers*

Track of the week...

Hmm, it's still early in the week and I've got nothing. Will try again next time...

There may be typos above. I got lazy and didn't proofread.
Typos happen!

There have been many weird sights here at the Magic Box, most recently a goat wearing a T-shirt and a ghostly apparition of what appeared to be Mozart with an electric guitar mumbling to himself, “I’ll have to do much better than that before I have any chance of getting into Lawnmower Deth”. That latest addition to the list of strange sights is what appears to be a maxi size box of cookies with little brown fury legs. This is in actual fact a teddy bear carrying a rather large box of cookies. Which, on reflection, may turn out to be even stranger…..

Hi everyone!!!

The teddy bear’s hand paw drives into the box and produces one of the cookies. He then flips the cookie up in the air, tilts his head back and it disappears into the gaping chasm of a mouth.

(munch!!)

LionHunter: I actually read somewhere that one of the reasons why people objected to the cancellation of Angel in the manor that WB took was that it would be difficult for Sarah and Alyson to appear, Alyson’s still in London appearing on stage(I think). Also, Joss and co would have a limited time to come up with a suitable and fitting ending. I think tarasapp posted something a little while back that was on another board from a source inside WB which hinted that there may very well another season at least. If that’s the case, then I’m sure Alyson and Sarah would be willing to appear, work permitting.

Lord of the Dance: I’m not a big fan of zombie films myself. I think it’s the sight of people wandering around aimlessly, mouths permanently gaping with the IQ of a gnat that remind of Rack first thing in the morning. I hear that there’s a rom-zom-com (a romantic zombie comedy) out called shaun of the dead..that sounds more like my kind of film.

Gothic: Just how did you get sore lips? Or shouldn’t I ask…anyway have you given up studying to be a midwife then? Hey, you’re a PA, that’s funny ‘cause Rack’s an AP. Although, sometimes think that there should be an E on the end of it. By the way were going to put together the post on the Angel episode up to the one you’ve seen.

Almond: Rack’s going to do a post on his thoughts on “The Warriors Apprentice” either tomorrow or Thursday as we’re off for a long weekend.

tarasApprentice: A big Hi back to apprentice from Rack and a wave from me. You know Rack reads to me before we go to sleep. Although it’s just a list of jobs for me to do the next day, not quite the same thing really, apprentice is very lucky. Oh, American Idol..Rack taped it and just watched the JPL bit. He sang “drift away” (they were doing soul songs) and does seem to have a pretty decent set of pipes on him…not to sure about the dancing though (although you should see Rack try and dance..I had to get my sides re-stitched after the last attempt). Do they have a section where they have to do Rock. Rack suggests that he does a Lawnmower Deth track “Seventh Church of the Apocalyptic Lawnmower” and he’d be a sure fire winner. Don’t know a bout a hobbit but I thought he look a little like a teddy bear…

Oh no..I’m out of cookies!! I knew I should have brought a bigger box.

Must dash….

C-YA!!

lionhunter, that is actually new news. The info about Sarah Michelle and Alyson was in Kristin's column just last week.
tarasapprentice, you're the best too! Kingdom Hospital is odd but I just can't stop watching. :-) Love the Wonderfalls link you provided. As for what I read, BOOKS! I read lots of different genres, currently reading (don't laugh- it's a young adult novel) "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" (and I'm sure you can guess why.) I recently read "Digital Fortress" by Dan Brown, and can't wait to get started on "Angels & Demons" and "The DaVinci Code." I like classics such as Jane Austen and Edith Wharton. I also like fantasy (but not really futuristic sci-fi) and have read a lot of books by Mercedes Lackey... I got really into the Valdemar series, but haven't read any in a few years. I love the Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. My favorite fantasy I have read recently is "The Curse of Chalion" by Lois McMaster Bujold. Anyway, I've rambled enough. :-) Gotta get back to that other board and see what's going on there.
Almond, Yes, I am cursed with a husband who likes cheese, but doesn't appreciate it.

I have no idea how old this episode of Entertainment was. Anybody else heard this?

Any news on the save Angel campaign?

See, I told you = brain mush!!!! So sorry Rack.

Thanks to all with the birthday wishes. I had a really lovely day on Friday - Mr. L took the day off and we spent the day together which is always good.

tarasapp Thank you for the yummy pic ~ cleanliness is next to Angelness after all.

Lionhunter places a magically self-replenishing plate of nachos on the bar accompanied by a jug of strawberry (especially for Rack by way of grovel) marguerita's and some Mountain Dew for the non-alcohol types. She needs some salt and spice after all that chocolate. Throwing a hippo haunch to the increasingly wierd panther, she vo-de-oh-doe's out of the building.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend. :)

Just got back from taking my sons to a roller rink for a birthday party. I haven't been on skates for some time, but I was doing pretty well. I actually won one of the skating games. Got a stick of Starburst Taffy. LOL

I can tell I'm going to pay for it tomorrow, however. My knee is killing me from a spill I took when my son pulled too hard on my hand. Ouch. Took some Advil. Should be fine.

Big Van Helsing write-up in the new Entertainment Weekly. Looking forward to that and Hellboy. Haven't seen the new Dawn of the Dead yet. I hear, from people I trust, that it is excellent. It just bothers me that they are re-making classics instead of taking a film that was schlock, but a good idea, and re-doing that in a great way.

Can't wait for new Angel! :)

See you all soon!

Lionhunter a belated Happy Bithday to you! I hope you had a wonderful day and many blessings on your "new" year. Here's a little something in honor of YOU!

*tarasapprentice takes a moment or two to picture Mozart as a member of Lawnmower Deth*

rack I brought you a strawberry milkshake - you deserve it after being called a wizard. Oh dear, I feel terrible and somewhat responsibl;e for making you view something as bad as AI! I'm only watching it for the pen salesman (Jon Peter Lewis). I'm really happy you got the His Dark Materials trilogy. Sometimes I read to apprentice at bedtime and we read some Golden Compass tonight. I need to send my copy to watcher soon so he can read it. Also apprentice asked me to tell you "Hi"

almond I'm gald your weekend turned out well and to hear that the prom will be happily attended after all. Not to mention the part about the cheese buying! I'm so happy you like Wonderfalls too! And I had exactly the same concern about Jayne's sister. I'm totally hoping for the best - good portrayals could be helpful in this time of controversy - well I guess that depends on the individual and their beliefs.

emilyboo you're the best and I'm not just saying that because of the cheesecake either! I still have to watch this week's episode of Kimgdom Hospital but I already wrote to you of what I thought about last weeks. Do you read at all? What books, authors do you like? There's a lot of book lovers around here so I'm sure everyone would enjoy hearing from you.

Becoming Part 1 and 2 were on tv today. I am still so in awe of this show. I miss Buffy. A lot.

I had a track of the week and now I've forgoten it...Oh! I remember now! It's Steeley Dan's Bodhisattva . Not a lyrical masterpiece by any means but the insturmentals are great.

Has anyone seen the film "Death to Smoochy"? We got it from the library last week, and I'm wondering if it's worth making a heroic effort to watch before it's due tomorrow.

Speaking of "watching things" - I rewatched "Wonderfalls" last night. (My third viewing, no less.) * I was wrong about one thing - the little critters do have unique personalities that complement the type of object speaking. It will be fun to see if this continues.
I also like Jaye's friend and her easy acceptance of the strange and unusual.
One thing continues to bother me each time I watch, however. Jaye's references to "SUVs" and "doing Drew Barrymoore" made me feel the writers were using her sister's life choice as nothing but a device for cheap jokes. I hope the character (who I like) is allowed to develop into a real person and does not become some sort of stereotype. I know this is a comedy, but the recent political furor over gay rights can't help but make me fear that such an offbeat show may hesitate to alienate viewers by an open show of support for something that has so many people up in arms.
* I'm really looking forward to tonight's episode.

If something doesn't change at my Dad's house soon, I may have to quit going over there. Yesterday I had an overwhelming urge to smack my youngest brother upside the head with no warning. Though the only way I could quit going over would be if we moved to another state, and that doesn't seem likely.

I don't have a Track of the Week, so since I kind of miss Quoteable Tuesday how about this instead:

Dogtrot: You lost me at "fundus". *s*
I've been enjoying your alphabetical submissions at the Beta. You're a poet and no one knowed it!

Rack: I hope you're liking what you've read so far. I wonder if I should have recommended that you start with the first book in the series. (I think I mentioned once that two books dealing with Miles' parent's history came before "WA".) While "WA" has humor and action, "Shards of Honor" is gritter and tackles some deeper moral questions. You may have preferred it.
"Mozart Unplugged"? Cool! You know, you've made me curious enough with various mentions of Lawnmower Deth that I tried to find one of their CDs at our library one day. Funnily enough, I couldn't. I live in a backwater town. *g*

Lionhunter: I tried to make a scrolling birthday banner for you last night, but the universe wasn't cooperating with me. *s* I'm sorry you had to work so hard on your birthday. I hope you had fun with the family!

*grabs a slice of the rapidly disappearing nummy cake and wanders out the door*

Almond said "After all, is there really such a thing as bad CHEESE?"
Well, I'm not terribly fond of limburger. It's just that if I left the cheese shopping to my husband, there would be nothing but American.
tarasapprentice, thanks for the letter from Tim Minear. I love Wonderfalls and definitely will be watching tonight! I didn't re-watch the pilot last night because I, uh... fell asleep.
Lionhunter, Happy belated birthday.
and to everyone else, hello and I'm sorry if I've missed responding to anything addressed to me. Here are some mini cheesecakes I have brought to share. Help yourselves. :-)

I like Fridays. Just when You think another week of staying late at work to finish things off that never actually seem to get finished will never end, along comes Friday to let you know that it’s over for a couple of days. Yea!! If only we could do something about Monday’s….

Anyway..no doubt that the real reason that you all look forward to Friday is to find out what will be the track of the week…Gimme Shelter by The Rolling Stones

Taken from the Let it Bleed album, one of the better Stones albums of the sixties, this the opening track of the album boasts one of Keef’s most recognizable intro’s (it was used on a R.A.C. advertisement for a number of years), but the song really comes alive when the rest of the group join in. Bill Wyman and Charlie Watts between them manage to sound like the bass section is twice the size. Watts at one time appears to be playing a variation on “Honky Tonk Woman”. This was at a time in the Stones history when they were a four- piece, following the tragic death of Brain Jones and also makes a period of evolution within the band. Jagger is on fine form as always on this track, he is aided by Mary Clayton on vocals, creating a “duet” which I have no doubt helped it evolve in to something of a classic Stones track. I’ve always preferred the Stones to the Beatles myself. The darker edge that they have to their choice of lyrics is typified by this track, written whilst Vietnam still dominated the news but the lyrics could easily apply to any many a scenario today.

LionHunter: A belated Happy Birthday to you. I hope you had a very special and enjoyable day. Seeing how it was your birthday I’ll forgive you calling me a wizard. Wizards are pathetic creatures..and they smell…you should throw rocks at them.

Almond: I’m not giving up on “Warriors Apprentice” I’m a third of the way through this time. I promised that I’d read it and I keep my promises (nearly). I’ll let you know what I think when I’m about half way through. Not too sure about that translation of “Fee Fi Fo Fum” being "the hippo stole my pants" in latin. Hypo is latin for horse. I think it really means “Teddy get me another milkshake”

Have to be quick as American Idol is on soon here plus there’s a program called “The Genius of Mozart” that I wanna watch. Just think..if Mozart were alive to day you can imagine him wishing that he was in Lawnmower Deth. If only they had electric guitars back then.

…Teddy…get me another milkshake

Take care all!!

....literally, as today it is my birthday. Its my birthday, its my birthday, gonna party like its my birthday! Actually, I worked all day, but then came home to my lovely cubs and a chocolate cake that was like a huge brownie iced with pure chocolate. Yum.

I think the panther could comment on bad cheese (he too is lactose intolerant). As is Mr Lionhunter, who is also the child of a dairy farmer. Although, he seems to be able to ship a tonnage of ice cream these days without suffering adverse affects, he has black tea/coffee and eats his cereal with water.

Hi Dogtrot I am fine thank you. I have started a new job and am working double the hours that I worked before and I am finding the change very tiring at present although I know I'll get used to it soon. Its doing accounts too, so intensive figure examining all day = brain mush. All my cubs/hub are getting out of me at present is "fire bad, tree pretty". On the plus side, I can now afford my ebay habit a little more easily.

Speaking of eye tests, I am also beginning to suspect that I might need glasses. Eye test is a very long way down my almond-style list.

Hope everyone is having a great day.

*waves*, {{hugs}} and [[stiff armed, russian style clapping on backs]] to all who would like them.

Lionhunter puts a duplicate of her own birthday cake (a nuclear explosion of chocolate) on the bar, plus a big pitcher of fresh milk and a jug of fresh coffee - you are going to need a drink with this baby!

Lionhunter has left the building.

Good eyes and glasses can go hand-in-hand as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah, I have seen these photos, but I don't really know the name of the instrument either. But they are much more inclusive than standard fundus photos.
