I think that Yogananda meant well when he started SRF,but I think the train has gone very far off track by now. All of this avatar stuff has nothing to do with scientific self-salvation, which is what yoga used to mean. It's unnecessary and out of place, and doesn't serve any purpose except in the minds of religious believers. SRF has become just another organized religion with it's own dogmas and contradictions. The religious side of SRF is no better than that of any other western religion. It has it's own traps and pitfalls, and has a million footholds for guilt and feelings of unworthiness. This was not Yogananda's intent, I really hope. Now we have people praying to Yogananda and the gurus for help and salvation, when his original message was one of empowering the person doing the praying himself; that he HAD to save himself and he did have that power within himself, not because he was connected to the gurus through SRF but because he was a human being.

Avatar? Really? That's taking it a little far isn't it? He was already a great yogi and an inspiration to people all over the world. It is not necessary to go any further than that. I blame post-PY SRF for this fanaticism, which again, has no place in yoga. If Yogananda ever said that he was an avatar then I blame him, but I hope that didn't happen.

An avatar working out his karma? Think about that for a minute.

An avatar achieving nirvikalpa only late in his life? Come on people, listen to yourselves. He couldn't achieve Nirvikalpa because he was so busy? And he was an avatar? Ridiculous.

Knowing past, present and future and play-acting? What lesson does does an angry guru teach? I'm not saying the the "chiseler" thing happened, but if it did followers like yourself are prepared and completely ready to use the play acting excuse and are satisfied by it so easily. Incredible.

You also assume that if he initated others before authorized to do so, then it was meant to be, because Yogananda was Yogananda and he was given permission by "God?" Ridiculous.

It may sound like I am bashing Yogananda, but I am not. I am only bashing religious cultism being passed off as yoga. All of these behaviors and contradictions are fine, as long as Yogananda is a human. But when elevated to avatar status, higher standards are in order and have not been met. This is not to fault Yogananda, but instead SRF and misplaced Christians.

What happened to Kriya and Yoga and their philosphies?

Nothing is meant for you specifically. It's this popular mindset itself that bothers me.

Ketch, you're still my favorite SRFer.

overly opinionated,

k
