Subject: The real Self-realization

The real Self-realization

Drunkenness is not the proof of Self-realization or the experience of the Divine. It is just a possible accompaniment of the non-absolute samadhi, as stated in verse I.17 of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. Beyond it there is still the “nirvikalpa” or absolute samadhi to be reached, where there is not such duality of drunkenness. For an external observer, the real proof of Self-realization is the perfect and effortless observance of the Yamas and Niyamas, and the maintenance of a peaceful and kind disposition, no matter what happens, in all times.
