Date Posted: 01:21:52 11/27/04 Sat This might not be at all appropriate for an FC, but it might do as the Royal Standard for the Queen (or empress...) of the FC. Just take out the arms in the middle and put in the "E" symbol which exists in the present standard for the former dominions, and I think it'll look just right for that. Date Posted: 01:52:41 11/27/04 Sat Firstly, you image will have to exist on the internet. I use a free picture hosting service to do this. Then you have to link to the image using an HTML Image tag in your post. To see what this tag looks like, select the View menu, and click Source (assuming you are using IE as your Browser) While viewing a post with an image, you will see lots of HTML code. This is what renders the page. Look for the post with the image (you should be able to find it amongst all the code) You need to insert the text between the <> angle brackets (including the brackets) which starts with IMG. The web address within the brackets is the address of your image. The second part of the tag is the image name, and is what your browser will display when you hover over it. Date Posted: 16:16:28 11/27/04 Sat If we have symbols for specific bits of the FC we are somehow tying our new federated identity to an amalgam of existing identities. It also means that if we welcome, for example, Barbados and St. Lucia into the federation, we would have to squeeze in symbols for them too. I want something unifying: something sharp, elegant and reminiscent of familiar flags without actually containing existing symbols. Something in the traditional colours we are all fond of and that would look great on a t-shirt. Something easy enough for children to draw in their schoolbooks without being reduced to mere geometry. Date Posted: 15:37:20 11/27/04 Sat Firstly, thanks Dave for posting the flags. The second flag is supposed to be a generic, non-British imperial flag without the Union Jack. The red, white and blue colours are from the Union Jack to represent the British heritage. The top left star is the North Star representing Britain and Canada, and the stars in the bottom right are the Southern Cross representing Australia and New Zealand (the stars are five-pointed as in the NZ flag, but are all white as in the Australian flag). The blue represents the oceans. The cross represents the Greenwich Meridian and the Equator in a sort of stylised map of the world. It is off-centre for two reasons - the Americas to the left of the Greenwich Meridian are fairly narrow from east to west, while the other continents on the east side of the Meridian are fairly wide (the distance across Asia). The other reason is that a St. George's cross would look too English, while an off-centre cross is more neutral. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |
