Hi Jack,
thanks for the comment. I played 2 rounds during the we, 9 holes on saturday and 18 holes on sunday. So far the great bonus for my game are the wedges. Never had such clean contact before, especially when hitting from the fairway. Most of the time, I was either topping the ball or hitting much too fat with huge divots, resulting in loss of distance. 1-iron GW/SW/LW give me much more precise contact. I now have something in my bag for the 60m range which I always lacked so far.
As to middle and long irons, I have not yet found the proper swing tempo. I guess the main difference with my previous irons set is the steel vs graphite shaft. My swing speed may have "subconsciously" dropped a little during this learning phase?

Hi,
Just wanted to share my latest rounds with the one iron clubs set. Good news is that after a couple of practice sessions and training rounds, I regained a fair distance with the irons (wedges to 7 iron). I compared the lofts of my old set, given that the old 7 had a few degrees less loft than my 1 iron 7, I would say the results are there.
As for the longer irons, 6 and 5, I still have work to do, because the yardage gap is not there so far and I hit them poorly most of the time. If I look for excuses, the course is extremely muddy due to our heavy winter rains here in Normandy, wich means it is almost impossible to get a clean contact...
As I said in my previous post, for high handicaper like me, the most striking benefit comes from the wedges and medium irons.
As for the fairway woods, the 5 is wonderful off the tee and I hit it quite regularly in lieu of my driver, the Loss of distance being more than compensated by increased accuracy. The 7 seems strangely less easy for me. I hit it rather short off the fairway.

Hi guys,
Few more training rounds during the WE. I am now pretty used to the mid-irons, hit them pretty decently. One of the things I discovered is that, among the excellent tips provided by David Lake about 1-iron swing, the "no-sway" seems pivotal. It makes a huge difference for solid contact and I am more confident now. Probably need a few more weeks of practice with the 6&5 irons because it's difficult to get rid of the old "long iron swing" habit...
Things are also much better with the 7 wood off the fairway since I tried to stick to the "no-sway" scheme.

January, 2013 I bought Novas. Feb.,2013 I bought 1Irons, Driver thru GW. The Novas then were not custom sized like the 1Irons, but were single lenght.

I am 71 and my golf glove size is small cadet. I had played Regular graphite shafts for 25 years with standard cord grips.

The 1Iron irons are more consistent than the Novas, but the Novas feel better, because of the grips and the graphite shafts, and the Novas are longer by 15 yards. Here in Palm Desert I hit a 1Iron 9 95 yards and a 9 Nova 110. I have lost about 30 yards on the 1Iron fairway woods although I am straighter.

I want to reshaft the woods to graphite. Can you recommend length and weight of graphite shafts in senior flex?

Ray: It is EXTREMELY hard to recommend a shaft for you. Reason is it all depends on your personal swing mechanics. I urge you to seek out a decent club fitter/builder that has the correct tools to properly identify what will work best for you. Such things as your club-head speed, actual and desired launch angle, shaft kick point, WTF measurement, and many more individual characteristics all go into proper shaft fitting and selection. And the price range can be from $10.00 to over $100.00 depending on the shaft. Several of my senior students have slower swing speeds(70-75mph)and actually do much, much better with a women's-flex Aldila shaft. You also need to consider the size of grip - a lot of my students started out with grips that just didn't fit them! Stay away from the "big-box" stores. A good fitter/builder will get you into the shaft and grip you need, and at a very reasonable cost. Hope this helps a little. Hit em' straight! R2

Hey Pierre! Thanx for the feedback regarding the wedges! Those clubs have ALWAYS been a REAL problem for me as well. I am 6'3" and ALWAYS hit my short irons FAT! I just ordered a SW and will get a feel for it and for the 1 iron clubs that are in my future...I hope!!
