I would envisage separate judges for the two days, each day runs like IVDC at the moment, but with more time available. Each day could then charge the IVDC entry fee, or thereabouts. People who do both days have to pay a bit more, this is true, but I'm sure a combined ticket needn't cost as much as two one-day tickets. The big universities like ImpOxBridge would almost certainly fill a coach for each day, even with some people staying overnight and competing in both categories.
There are also significant economies of scale for the hosts, and these savings could be passed on to the students attending. People might have to pay a bit more, but surely that's worth it for the increased quality of the event?
Think of the extra time - smaller, (safer) heats, so the judges can actually see who's on the floor. No arguments about offbeat time length, or if we have time for an Combined Semi (the question then becomes, is an advanced semi worth it on dancing grounds?)
