The sad thing is that Irish dance is an AMAZING sport at its core. The dancers are incredible athletes. But the sport is not and never will be taken seriously because of the sexualization of the majority of the participants (females) in having to wear crazy makeup, crazy wigs, and crazy fake tans -- NONE OF WHICH have anything whatsoever to do with actual traditional Irish dancing or culture. Literally these athletes are forced to dress up like "Toddlers and Tiaras," which is ridiculous. Most reputable sports do not force females to do anything so ridiculous, especially since it has no basis in Irish traditional culture. In fact, one of the female owners/instructors at a school in Virginia told students they needed to "be sexy." When you sexualize athletes like this, as we've seen in other sports, children are abused, and apparently lots of other illegal activity takes place. The corruption needs to be rooted out, and there should no longer be forced tanning, forced heavy makeup, forced short skirts up to their posteriors, forced ridiculous non-traditional Irish wigs that look like Marge Simpson wigs. Start treating these athletes AS athletes. This could be considered a real sport if the ridiculous judges, TCRGs, industry, ridiculously expensive dresses, and some of the ridiculous parents would only let it, instead of reducing the sport to a Toddlers and Tiaras moment. Let's elevate the actual sport instead.
