We must assume no one is paying more for Morgan's bad behavior than the victim and the family of that child. Their payments will last years, if not a lifetime. Secondarily, the kids who were subjected to Morgan's abusive behaviors- along with the abusive behaviors of the teachers he worked with- will pay for those adults' bad behaviors for years, if not lifetimes. A lack of local competitions and poor placements at competitions and needing to switch schools may be irritating, but these are minor in comparison to the major cultural problems of overt addiction, lack of boundaries, and emotional abuse within the Irish Dance community.

As a parent, I acknowledge my failures in allowing my children to remain subject to these abusers for too long. The signs were there. I failed to heed them. I excused and overlooked them, along with so many other parents at McGrath Morgan and Morgan Legacy and many, many other dance schools whose teachers behave similarly. Excusing and minimizing harmful behavior appears to be the norm in Irish Dance. This is destructive to the children impacted, but also to children who aren’t directly abused or assaulted. They see such behaviors widely normalized, leading to cycles of acceptance, excuse-making, and minimization and to cycles of emotional and mental fallout from such.

So, yes, people are paying high prices and will pay them for a long time- the assault victims, the children subjected to their teachers' rage and degradation, the families impacted. The very, very least of these prices are the reduction in local competitions or poor placements or bad choreography or the need to change schools. God willing, you’ll find a healthier school or – even better - a healthier activity, and your children’s lives will be better for it.
