This is how it always was in the 90s/2000s in the western region...not to mention this was in the height of the Riverdance/Lord of the Dance craze so individual champ competitions typically had more than 20 dancers in them. I remember one feis that had more than 1,100 entrants overall!
Now, with the double feis weekends, second chances at the same feis, etc. kids are moving up WAY too fast and getting into open too soon. So the 3 firsts requirement isn't anything new...just reverting to previous standards which I think is a good thing.
