Poor Jill - I hope you get some rest soon. From what Dave tells me, Cassie had a TON of ear infections and they eventually put tubes in, which helped almost immediately. Alex's infections were always sinus, but we also didn't find relief until we saw an ENT specialist. I think tubes will probably help Eric - I can't see how they would hurt.

As for the sleeping thing. I think you have two separate issues - they might be able to be solved the same way and maybe even the same time. You need to get him to learn to fall asleep in his crib and you need him to go to bed earlier. I think that CIO (crying it out) is a perfectly good solution for both of these problems. This is what we did with Zack when we moved him to his crib. We started putting him down at the same time every night and we would let him CIO. I would usually give him 10 minutes, depending on the type of cry. If he's hysterical, 10 minutes max, if he's just whining, I would leave him there for longer. I do believe that Eric will eventually learn that he is still safe and it's ok to fall asleep there. If you start putting him down at the same time every night (even if he plays for an hour before sleep as Zack will do sometimes), you are setting a schedule and he will eventually get used to it.

Perhaps you can try laying him down at 9pm to start and see how he does. Zack honestly only had a few rough nights at first when we "forced" him to fall asleep on his own. He now goes to sleep between 7-8 (I watch for the signs that he's sleepy..if he doesn't show any, I will go ahead and put him down before 8 and let him play until he decides he's tired) and sleeps 12 hours.

Good luck - you will probably have some rough nights, but the results will be worth it.

That's my advice - take it or leave it HAHAHA
