"Oh, I don't believe this!" Randy exclaimed as her car refused to start.

"Don't flood it…" Rob cautioned, glad he'd decided to wait until Randy was safely on her way before he left the parking lot.

"Can you really still do that?" Randy stopped to wonder, totally at a loss when it came to modern automotive electronics.

"How the hell should I know?" Rob shouted in exasperation from beneath the hood. "I'm a singer not a mechanic…"

For a split second, Rob heard himself and shivered. All those years watching Star Trek with Shane and Nicky had seriously messed with his head. He was way too young to start sounding like Dr. McCoy, dammit…

"Oh, Daddy told me it needed a tune-up soon…" Randy fumed, getting out of the car and kicking the front tire with her high heel. "I didn't know he meant today!"

"Stay calm, Rand, please…" Several hysterical women rushing onstage Rob could handle. Just this one, screaming in his ear, was making him very jittery.

"How can I stay calm?" she groaned. "It's already eight o'clock!"

"Here…" Desperate, Rob dug into his pants pocket and pulled out his keys. "Take my car…"

"The Camaro?" Randy was momentarily speechless. Rob and his Camaro were never parted.

"Black dress…black Camaro…Nicky won't stand a chance," Rob smiled.

"Oh, I don't know…" Randy felt suddenly foolish for pinning all her hopes on this one evening with Nick.

"You wanna make an entrance, don't ya?" Rob grinned wickedly.

"C'mon…go already…I'll call that double-A thing, have 'em tow your car, and I'll just walk home," he promised.

"Alone? Gee, Rob, it's chilly…I can't ask you to…" Randy was sorely tempted.

"You didn't…" Rob argued, assuaging her guilt. "Now go!"

Impulsively, Randy threw her arms around Rob and gave him a huge hug and kiss in gratitude for all he had done for her tonight.

"Oh, you are the best friend a girl could ever have," she giggled, giving him one last kiss on the cheek.

Rob winced, wondering which was worse, being called a mother hen or a girl's best friend?

"Don't let it get around, please?" Rob begged, giving Randy a half-hearted wave as she started the engine and headed toward the Prickly Pear.

Rob stood alone in the dark, deserted parking lot. The lamp in his spare bedroom gave off more light than the two, measly, parking lights that flickered ominously from the museum's front doorway. Times like these, Studs seemed like Death Valley and Transylvania all rolled into one, Rob chuckled fearlessly.

With not a soul for miles, he prepared for the lonely walk home. Oh well…the peace and solitude would give him time to wrestle with a very serious dilemma.

For, without a doubt, one thought stood paramount in Rob's mind.

"I gotta work on my image…"
