Hi Katy. I wouldn't worry about having braces and working with patients. I'm 27 years old and I'm the head occupational therapist in a skilled nursing facility. I did my job interview with my braces and I haven't had any problems working with patients. I think braces do make me look younger than I already look, but I see it has a compliment. Patients are more appreciative that you are helping them than the way you look. You are going into a very stressful and fast occupation and you won't even notice that you have braces on. I was initially nervous about doing my job interview with braces, but after preparing for the interview, I didn't even think about them, I forgot they were one. Having braces will only help your self-esteem! Also, when I went to the initial consultation for my braces, my ortho told me that my profile and face would not change after my ortho treatment.
