I would gladly put forward 50 to 100 more a year for security, but we cannot expect other families to accept that in these difficult financial times.

We do get a lot for very little. Your numbers only show how very little our budget is. What are we going to cut in order to pay for even part-time security? Are we going to let the weeds get out of hand? Are we going to let the pools fall out of maintenance? Both of those would be far more of an issue. Shutting down the area at 8pm would be a better solution than either of those home value-wise and yet you would never get anyone to agree to that either.

I don't agree with a lot of the things the board does and they can certainly tell you we've had our disagreements, but I respect what they are limited and that they can keep things together within those limits.

I work in Corporate Security, Regulations and Legal Compliance and my issue with this situation has always been one of liability. It's not just the board, every HOA member gets to be on the hook for any liability. (Thank the Federal Government for allowing that.)

Unfortunatley, Brian is correct. If we hire a guard, we would be required to pay insurance to cover anything that may happen to them. You would need to hire a service and that would eat most of our HOA budget.

Let the guys know who you are so we can nominate you for the board.
