Date Posted: 07:23:53 02/04/03 Tue Historical Profile Celebrating 25 Years of Excellence . If a week is a long time in politics, a lifetime successfully keeping up with the present exponentially expanding world of electronics shows rare and capable technical and marketing ability. Proof of the marketing ability of Electronics Development Sales (EDS) is its steady - and continuing - climb to greater client satisfaction, for both those clients it represents, and those whom it services. . Branching Out l Proximity Access Control l What Makes EDS - Unique? Manufacturers’ Agent From a manufacturer’s agent, EDS has achieved a position where it has grown to service Australia and New Zealand as one of the region’s leading distributors of RF Microwave/Lightwave components and equipment. The company has achieved its successes while building a base and a record of proved ability in one of the several expanding and leading technologies in communications and related technologies. In other growing technologies EDS markets production equipment for SMT, access control equipment, biometrics and smartcards. The company’s founder, Erle Goodwin, has been in electronics from the early 1940s. He has seen solid-state electronics evolve from the crude transistors that resulted from the first successful experiments in 1948, in all its phases to the multiplicity of devices today. back to top -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- . Branching out EDS was well qualified to branch out into the burgeoning technology of sophisticated security aids that improved technology was introducing. Such technology was to change the security industry. Close association with new electronics technology became EDS’ introduction to microwave techniques through the new microwave perimeter systems. In 1976 EDS commenced, distributing the California-designed Stellar security systems through Wormald Security Controls. Soon the new company could point to the successful ‘E’-FIELD fence and wall-mounted electromagnetic field systems on such prestigious installations at the Australian Atomic Energy Facility in Sutherland and the Department of Defence headquarters in Canberra. When problems occurred with overseas-designed installations of high-tech security systems in jails and mines because of Australian soils and climate, EDS was able to solve the problems to enable these new technologies to work well. back to top -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- . Proximity access control In 1985 EDS, from their experience in high tech Security products and technologies of the American Stellar Systems, they added the Indala Corporations proximity access control equipment to their agencies. One of the first major installations of Indala’s technology was to access all the doors in the Melbourne headquarters of the ANZ Bank. Indala readers and cards were programmed to work with the building’s computer system; a first in Australia. Other major installations included the Governor Philip Tower, a skyscraper in Sydney. EDS is responsible for the marketing and sales of access control equipment in Australia. Historically EDS has assisted many companies to start in the security field and have been instrumental in such companies as Tecom Systems and Seadan Security. Throughout the 1970’s and beyond EDS has been responsible for bringing Australia unique security technology; the best the world has to offer. The Indala product phase has developed into the most well respected, true security product in the world today. As EDS has been renowned for taking new technology in hand and delivering it to Australian OEM’s; it has achieved its goal to stand out against all other distributors in Australia. The company has been involved in every kind of marketing of the product throughout its development, including sponsorship of Australia’s major trade event for the last two years. During the Year 2000 EDS carried out the first formal smartcard training in Australia through their representation of Motorola. As the product has developed into a smartcard platform aimed at logical access, EDS has been actively involved in the development of the product to be launched late 2001. EDS has been involved with the introduction of biometric systems since the 1970’s, being part of the development of the first biometric hand reader developed in New York in the late 70’s. Since this time EDS has been responsible for the development of the first biometric system in Australia; now widely used in Government and Defence facilities throughout the country. As the world requires more ‘security’, EDS has continued to represent Recognition Systems, an Ingersoll-Rand company throughout the development of the HandKey and HandPunch Systems. back to top -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- . What Makes EDS – Unique? What makes EDS unique is its extensive program of value added services. The company makes its engineering staff available from early design through to supply and after sales service. Companies that EDS represent enjoy the luxury of having a ‘branch office’ in Australia and New Zealand; thus supplying service, training facilities and one of the most experienced marketing programs in the business. EDS is unique, it takes ownership of the product and makes it their own. Sydney-based, from an office in Marrickville at the company’s foundation in 1976, EDS has progressively moved to keep pace with its expansion. The first move was to St Leonards, then Lane Cove, and in 2001 a move to its own building base at Chatswood has increased its industry services with a showroom and product training facilities for clients and their staffs, and for EDS’ own technical, sales and marketing staff. The present staff numbers 15, and includes seven engineers. The company’s three divisions are: RF Microwave/Lightwave, Production Equipment Division, and Security. As the company that distributes the largest range of RF Microwave and Lightwave components in Australia, EDS brings you commensurate experience and know-how to your problems. We represent a prestigious list of principals that includes world leaders in semiconductor components. From these EDS offers comprehensive solutions in all aspects of microwave, fibre optics, satellite communications, and ancillary equipment. From these ranges EDS offers a spectrum of the most up-to-date technologies and answers to industry’s progressive needs. A glance at our list of principals and their lists of expertise, coupled with EDS’ 25 years experience in these technologies, will convince you of our pre-eminence in these frontiers of technology. EDS has made SMT another of its specialities, mainly based on Mydata automation Worldwide from Sweden. So far EDS has installed 22 Mydata machines in Australia. Last year we became responsible for Mydata’s greatest sale worldwide, when we sold and installed a complete Mydata line into GPC Electronics. This company is one of Australia’s manufacturers and our winning contract was a tribute to Mydata’s equipment and EDS’ acknowledged leadership in this area. Our representation of Mydata machines is complemented by our more than 20 years association with Nacesa/Piher of Spain. This company’s potentiometers of all types, plus trimmers and rotating and slide switches. Add cage jacks, connector plugs, solder terminals and IC sockets, hardware and inductors from the Cambion division of Wearnes Hollingworth of the UK. Our long associations with these companies witness the standards of their products and the reputations their products have won from Australian manufacturers who have come to rely on their quality and the work we have put into representing them. Thirdly, EDS has built up 15 years’ experience in security, based on its specialising with Access Control. As demand for high-tech security has increased with the expanding applications of modern electronics, and has become more sophisticated and effective, EDS represented first Indala of the USA, and then Motorola after Indala’s takeover by that company. EDS, through reporting to the Motorola Corporation Smartcards Solutions Division, has been a pioneer in the new and expanding markets for industrial and smartcard opportunities. While supporting our Australian network of dealers and services with focused marketing, we supplement our main supplier in security with the biometric systems for access control, time and attendance from Recognitions Systems of Ingersoll Rand. back to top [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
