The increase will help pay the extra costs for post 9/11 security measures and help offset a rising deficit resulting from the current economic downturn. Because we value your ridership we have taken steps to minimize the amount we have to ask from you. We've lowered spending, reduced our workforce and cut capital reinvestment to save money. And, over the last decade, we've held costs per passenger mile below the rate of inflation. Most riders will see one-way fare increases of only $.05 to $.10, with a maximum increase of $.25. There are many ways riders can save the cost of the increase: • If eligible, take advantage of discounted fares for seniors, persons with disabilities and others. • High value tickets are available at a 6.25% discount through many Tickets-to-Go vendors throughout the Bay Area—save more than the cost of the increase. Pick up a Tickets-to-Go brochure at any BART station for a list of vendors. • Use an employer-sponsored pre-tax program to purchase your tickets (visit www.commuterchoice.com for more information) and save 20 percent or more on the cost of your tickets. Check the fare chart below for the new fares. BART fares effective Wednesday, January 1, 2003 (32k .pdf file) [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
