Commuters and ERG speculators

There has been some speculation that as the NSW election approaches [March 2003] the State government will withold announcing the $500m ERG contract. This speculation pre-supposes that the announcment would provide the current opposition with a "How could the Labor party commit this large amount of money to a futuristic, unproven ticketing system when we have hospital queues, too few police blah blah..."

I would contend that on any one of the 5 or 6 pre-election remaining Sunday night 6 o'clock TV News Services we will be presented with vision of Premier Carr and Transort Minister Scully standing on a platform at Central Railway Station waxing lyrical about what they are in the process of implementing for "the 4 million deserving citizens of this great city".

Political parties like to hitch themselves to the future at election times; the fact that ERG could be portrayed as a company on the verge, is at best, of passing interest to the majority of voters.

ERGonomically cast
