I like music that tackles injustice and which is for absolutely everybody, exclusion of anybody is wrong. The best music for me contains universal lyrical content that both the male and female listener can relate to. Because the absolute vast majority of punk rock bands out there are male, then a lot of songs are gonna deal with predominately male issues. This is why there needs to be more female bands out there for both men and women to listen to, because men are gonna write about things they understand and women are gonna write about issues important to them.

I have no knowledge of riotgrrl bands at all, so i can't really comment on that movement too much or Kathleen Hanna. But my perception of it, because of it's very name - Riotgrrl, indicates that it promotes the rights of women whilst excluding males. So is this not a little sexist too?

What has to happen, i feel, is for there to be more ladies in rock for starters and for them to get widespread mainstream success. Then those ladies that are successful need to reinvest their wealth into setting up their own record labels - in the same way as Fat Mike, Brett Gurewitz, Dexter Holland and Billie Joe Armstrong to name a few have done. Then they'll have a lot more power and influence in the music business, and things can progress towards absolute equality between males and females within Rock.
