but what fascinates me is that canon offers us better character matches for the role of vanquished evil competitor for the one true love than Elena/Simone or Jurgen/Helmut - and yet, we don't use them. That would be the big, non-specific 'we'!

Andrea for example, or Vizcano are supperb canon choices for insane, obsesed, or otherwise unstable women who fixate on Michael and, on the surface, do have characteristics that seem to appeal to him.

Instead of Helmut/Jurgen we could have Alec Chandler, or Jovan Mijovich, for example, as charming but ultimately very bad men whom Nikita finds attractive in one way or another, and vis versa.

But they don't get used, and instead the more popular, and IMO less well suited, Elena/Simone or Jurgen/Helmut do.

That's the part that has caught my interest, more than the plot trick itself.
