Well - I do read FS fanfic, and tiny bit of LOTR and a fair amount of Starksy and Hutch, plus bits and pieces of other things that catch my eye for whatever reason....so it isn't that I'm a totally monogamus fanfic type! LOL! I'm just not the same kind of 'dive in and read it all until my eyes dry up and fall out of my head' reader that I was when I first discovered internet LFN fanfic.

But I do wonder what draws people into the fanfic thing in the first place. For me, certainly, it was the "fix it" thing, which in turn spawned the "damn it's too much trouble to fix it, how about some AU!" impulse.

Farscape has nothing I want to 'fix' - not in the main plot line anyway....where as LFN? Ooh, yeah. Lots of things to fix.

Take "Friend" just for example. The "agency" botched taking care of Milovich, so Milovich was handed off to the presumbably tougher, stronger, Section - which has, if we are to believe the chick who pretended to be "Julie", already been breached in anticipation of this move, and the bad guys have already identifed the not even fully operational Nikita as likely to be assigned to the job, and so tracked down, pumped and murdered a childhood friend of hers. All to kill some minor middle european military leader cum late in life democrat. Either Milovich was *that* important, and nothing we saw ever seemed to indicate that he was, or Section was really that leaky. And given other events of S1, there is plenty of evidence to support the latter proposition. (I'm thinking in particular of Suba and his ability to locate the child of another operative for the purposes of blackmail...., not to mention the whole 'directory' fiasco.)

So - this, for me, spawns all kinds of half-baked ideas for how on earth Section could be *this* leaky, and yet remain as effective as they continued to think that it was.....(Not to mention the problem that spawned my first evah bits of fannish scribbling - how Michael could possibly have been both the operative we saw at Section something close to 24/7, and yet maintain the marriage to Elena.....)

But - to return to my question - there are obviously other things that goose other people's immaginations, and I'm wondering about what draws you (the big general you) to read and write fanfic?
