I've been questioning why we have a separate water district since I first moved into town many many years ago.

I've got one pipe coming into my house.. I want someone accountable that I can go to if there is a problem. That means government.

Why should I be voting for someone to run a water department? For that job, you should just need someone trained and certified on water issues, not in hiring/firing, purchasing, building maintenance, etc.

And I'm sorry, but elected officials should be overseeing a town government and appointing the appropriate people to run the different departments. The elected ones remain accountable (although I'm having trouble convincing myself of that with all the lawsuits rolling about).

The water district embarrassed itself incredibly in the past. It has improved, but to the point where it reminds me of the turnpike authority.. and can't see that it might be better off for the community if we let it go and run the utility through our town.

Now, the other issue is town goverment itself. We definitely need to get away from the town meeting format (from the 1600s) that is completely controlled by the "special interests", and put in a mayoral/council form of government... how do we get that started?

And while im at it, is the proposed town budget going to be posted on the town website?

And why is the school department not part of the town website. They should not be considered a separate entity.. I would like to see one all-emcompassing system for communication and access.

Sorry, this one got away from me...
