Since I said it needed elaboration and clarification, I'll do that here:

>>"but now the second a badfic pops up, someone goes off
>>on a crusade to get it taken off the net. A lot of the
>>new people there took things way to seriously. "OMG
>>dis ofendz meeeee!!1 It is my sole duty in life to rid
>>Fanfiction.net of all material I find objectionable
>>and if you don't agree with me then U R TEH SuXoRz!" I
>>don't know what ruined GAFF more; the conservative lot
>>that's moved in over the past few months, or
>>Fanfiction.net's "Report Abuse" button."

GAFF principle was originally about mocking badfic from afar. GAFF evolved, through the boards, to communication between critic and author. Therefore:

1. Reporting fanfic simply because you don't like it falls under the previous post's example of subversion.

2. Reporting fanfic for TOS violations is not subversive.

3. Forcing the fanfic author to commit TOS violations, or committing TOS violations in order to get the fanfic author to remove the fanfic, is subversive.

Why do I care so much about this? Lurker is right: it's just a site (now a board). But I don't like seeing something I once was a fan of get turned into that which it used to loathe. There's a difference between loyalty and obsession. We know when we've crossed the line when our discussions de-evolve into flames (e.g., the troll thread).

So this isn't seen as another "veiled attack," I will clearly state that I mean that Heywood and the Heywood Fanclub are obsessed, and that obsession led to the skewing of principles.

Just a reaffirmation that it's not my sole mission to place blame on others, but to look for solutions. The solutions can be found by seeing what we want to avoid and how we want to avoid it. We already see what we want to avoid. How we want to avoid it is the main subject for debate.
