Subject: I agree with this. They could be very comfortable losing money because, for instance, they see overall asset growth from his management. Or they could like him because he does what they ask him to do and takes the flak for them. Or they like him because he gets on with it for them, so that the club isn't much of a burden on them from a day-to-day perspective, and they can just have fun in ownership without the headaches.
