Brum Away Next Weekend -- Road Runner, Friday, November 13, 04:08:46pm (82.69.37.166)

Havent been to an away game for a while, really thinking of going next week up to St Andrews (not expecting as good a result as last time i went when we murdered them 3-1 ont hat friday night under JT)

Prices seem reasonable at Ł20 per ticket but coaches are Ł15 and I do despise the official club coaches for several reasons. Can anybody reccomend any decent train prices or websites I should look at?

Would be much appreciated, COYW!! And in response to the previous post I'm hoping for, not necisarily expecting at least 7 points from brum blackburn n bolton!!

- Bit late to start booking trains, all the cheap fares will be gone I'm afraid. Walk up fare from Marylebone is Ł32, or Ł42 from Euston. Journey time is an hour less from Euston. Has anyone got any sensible betting tips for the weekend?

I'm currently tempted by a double on Colchester (home to Exeter) and Norwich (home to Tranmere). Might also have a cheeky wager on Brentford to beat Millwall.

At least I can't lose any money on Fulham this weekend.

I am also a train driver and I'm not long in from work - I notice all the people who have a pop at us usually post messages at nice daytime or evening hours - what you seem to forget is our shifts alone would put most people off.
Yes its a 4 day week but those are 4 bloody long days as within them I still have to do at least 35 hours just as most do on thier 5 day week. But on top of that, what the train companies and media fail to tell you is that I can work 30 minutes overtime unpaid every day for late running trains (!)
I could teach most of the peeps on here to move a train within 30 minutes - but the job is about concentration - I stop at around 60-100 stations a day - and I have to open the doors on the right side at every single one of them or some-one could get killed - and theres nothing to stop me getting it wrong apart from myself.
I have also got to remember how long my train is - you can do one journey and then repeat the same journey with a longer train and even though you got up at 3am and have been at work 8 hours already - you have to remember to stop it in the right place or once again some-one could get killed.
I also have to react to the signals - much harder than you might think as you have to remember what the one you passed a few minutes ago was - even though you pass 100s every single day.
I make one mistake in a day and I get hauled away for an interview abd drug and alchohol tested - you make a mistake and you have a delete button to use.
Roughly 3-5 mistakes like those listed in your career will get you the sack - and thats it - new career needed. I would say that around 5% of train drivers within London get the sack every single year - not much of a long term career at the minute.
Meanwhile, my company has just informed us that Dec 28th will not paid as a bank holiday - despite that in our contract it clearly states that 'special' bank holidays as well as normal ones will be paid as a bank holiday - but I cannot take the day off to watch us play Chelsea because the annual leave programme has it listed as a bank holiday!
And yes I'm voting to strike on that day.

- Sorry but how hard can it be to remember which side the platform is and press right or left and to remember how many carriages you have on your train. - I have not posted on this subject before, and mercifully, I no longer have to use the tube every day in the years since I left London. However, as my late father worked for LT throughout this life, I do follow what is happening. Have to admit i feared the worst after Denly went first ball btu we batted superbly. Look a different side to the one that couldn't buy a six during the T20 world cup!!

        It's a shithole Doc, but then too are Morden, Wimbledon, Kingston, Croydon and Bromley, nowhere really escapes it. I wrote a paper on the Licencing Act of 2003 a year before it was implimented outlining how totally ridiculous it was to think that the cure to alcohol-fuelled idiocy was to allow people to drink for longer. For one it increased commercial competition so drinks prices got reduced, and anyone with half a braincell knows that blokes don't think 'oh hang on, I've had enough now I'll go home', they just stay out longer. It's now widely acknowledged that it was a shit idea, as was allowing every high street to become a mini-Ibiza, but of course, the people who make these decisions have probably never been within a mile of a high street on a Saturday night to witness what actually goes on.         See, I don't think it was a shit idea. I think our old licensing laws (which, incidentally, were brought in in wartime - that's WWI) were totally antiquated. For example, London is one of the greatest cities in the world yet you couldn't get a drink if you fancied one "out of hours". And the change benefits tourists / visitors etc, who could never understand the way we carried on. For me, the downfall of extended hours is in pubs / the pub chains / supermarkets / corner shops etc not being strict enough on under-age drinking - and sanctions are a joke. I don't think it is reasonable to change back, thereby punishing the VAST majority of people who do things a bit sensibly just because a minority cause a problem. You find another way...... On the one hand the Gov said that they wanted to allow people to have the option of a late night drink, on the other it was so that public services like the Old Bill and Paramedics would not be so stretched.         Reading's fine really. I look around the M25 ring and try to work out where I'd rather be for the same money and it's not an easy choice. I mentoned this to a lecturer once, give kids two options; You either go to the army from 16-20 or you go to University.         Personally I think the major problem with town centres is that they've been handed over in their entirety to big-chain retail and big-chain booze outlets. You'll never get a cohesive social structure in place in town centres if they're simply impersonal retail centres during the day, then shut for a bit in the evening only to open as impersonal retail booze areas. If we're going to get radical with anything, it shouldn't be forced labour for 18 year olds, it should be a wholesale change to planning and economic policy in town centres, to get much closer to the mainland European norm of small business owned by real people who actually give a shit about society, because one thing's certain: Tescos and Yates's couldn't give a flying feck. Anyone know of a camera out there Ł200 ish that would communicate with a PC/laptop? I need to take a load of photos and would like to capture the image on the PC when I hit enter key on the keyboard and bob's your uncle. The image will be loaded onto an access database. I dont want to touch the SD card.

Any ideas or does anyone use a good camera forum they could recommend?

- If you connect just about any modern digital camera to a modern laptop/PC windows will pop up and ask what you want to do. One option is to download pictures using windows so just clink on this and they download onto the PC where you can then copy and store them where you like. - I bought a Sony Cyber-shot last year. 10.1 mega pixels. Model # is DSC-W170. Very easy to use and the quality of the pictures and the ease of installing them onto a pc/laptop is probably second to none. I paid $275 CDN. - I have not met him myself, but I had an aunt who was a guest on one of his weekend shows many years ago. They had quite a repartit on the show, but the reason for posting is that he sent a hand-written Christmas card (name spelt correctly) and birthday card until she died.
