  As others have mentioned, Ruben Amorim has been sacked. I've always thought the United job was a destination for Silva so this couldn't have come at a worst time with much uncertainty over Marcos future at Fulham. Of course, United might not be interested in him and may have hit the eject button to quickly hire the ex Chelsea coach, who I vaguely recall being a potential replacement once before.
  I think United's number 1 target will be Villas manager but outside of that this is probably our most vulnerable time with Silva. If they come knocking, he will almost definitely go.

  • It's perhaps the only vacancy that I've been concerned about with regard to Silva. Have said for months that United is his most likely destination if the job becomes available. The job just fits him like a glove. It's interesting how the premier League has been hit with this recent influx of chancers like Hag, Ange and Amorim. They remind me of Arthur Daily.   We would not hear the end of it until the rules changed. We have the same from them every time there is a perceived injustice and wall to wall coverage until they receive an official apology.
  
  Please can somebody tell me if any other goal has been awarded like this before?
  
  There was an incorrect drawing of lines but this is the first I am aware of that an offside goal has been justified as being a correct decision. We have seen goals disallowed for being a couple of mm offside citing a toenail difference so why is there a sudden 5cm tolerance when playing one of the ‘big boys’.

    • I assume it’s all done by GPS and robots now, rather than by eye, same way as all the lines and pitch markings are drawn. I remember Leicester used to have some crazy patterns (which are now banned), it had to have been done using a computer system. Also no pundits/analysts have ever said the lines aren’t accurate and they have first world every week experience of how it’s done and the tech used.   Well done Harrison. To grace the pitch seriously fit, long time not selected in the first team, look up and strike gold, thank you for the experience.
  Throw in short towards the trigger side of a goal facing team mate fully expecting and timing his turn. Will mostly produce far better results than long and hopefully looping ball where heads are so numerous. Can be made more productive than corners.

  First of all I think it’s very easy to fans to want players for the here and now and not really consider that if successful players should be there for 4,5 year or more if they do well, or get sold for profit, it’s not all about there here and now. This is one reason I don’t get overly upset by the lateness of transfers, I’d rather wait (if that’s what’s needed) and make sure it’s the right player and potentially miss a bit of acclimatisation time for the current season.
  
  Anyway, I’ve digressed a little, but still believe the big picture is important for most signings. What do we need/want in January? Links appear to be sterling and Pepe so far. I don’t think we need a CF, Raul is a more than capable mid table prem CF, Muniz coming back will be like a new signing, silva won’t play a youngster, so I don’t see much value in someone like Pepe. Across the defence I think we are well set, in the summer I think Cast should be moved on and a younger prospect in to learn from tete. Again in the summer, I assume Diop will move on, again another younger player can be brought in with no rush to play them. Midfield I think is an area to look at, we need someone in for me, a Perreira type player who can produce bit more quality than lukic in the more advanced CM role. Do we sign Sterling if we can get some money for Traore? Guess devil is in the detail (wages), Sterling seems intent on wanting a London permenant transfer, there ain’t many options for him so we’d have good leverage.
  
  Really don’t think we need a lot of ins/outs, CM being a priority for me, but otherwise we’ll get the boost when AFCON players are back, don’t see the point in signing players for the short term when silva won’t play them and they’ll probs not even make the squad when the Nigerian guys are back.

  • I'd take a CF, but more thinking of replacing Raul when he leaves. Given how long it takes Marco to integrate players, signing someone like Pepe now with a view to having him and Muniz next season makes sense. Similarly, a CM for Reed. Depending on how severe his injury was, a loan for a RB to replace Tete this season might be our only absolutely urgent need.
