Subject: The answer is you never can tell. In living memory there were 3 managers who were superb for us but were rookies. Jezzard, Adams and MacDonald. Established names like Joel, Ranieri, were not. Without the Murphy header at Pompey, Hodgson would have joined them. Right man, right place, right time.
